Thank you for watching! We apologise for the audio quality during the performance; we were in a bit of a rush, and the microphone was accidentally placed the wrong way around. Rest assured, we have many more signature videos in the pipeline, and you'll soon be able to enjoy the sound properly!

Fun fact these horns will cost $8,000 but require at least another $1,000 in pad work because the factory puts out shit pad work. There's no reason they couldn't make the pads playable out of the box

More than pads are problematic. Tone holes, rod length, corks, key height and centering requires swedging, filing, adjustment, bending and quieting. Same problems for many a well known Tiawanese or mainland China horn.

Gray playing, Jim. Well done as you always do. These will be amazing for those of us willing to wait for them to depreciate and hit the used market. I recall when every Ref 54 tenor was listed for $6K, and now sellers can't give them away for $3,800. So used is the way to go for bargain savvy shoppers.

Selmer is pricing themselves right out of the market, in my opinion! I had a bad Mark vi, and changed to Yamaha in the late 70s. I've been very happy, and never looked back!

Exactly! Have a worn out 63,000 mark6 and guess what I’ve been playing the last four years? …….a Yamaha custom! And I am considering switching to a 82z!

When I test played the Series II and Series III alto, I preferred the Series III, even though I couldn't reach the price point. If they do this in an alto, I hope that as an improvement from the Series II they make it so that you can get a sweet core that the Series II just doesn't reach, and it feels like something is just missing. This new tenor is certainly beautiful. My preference is Yanagisawa if I could afford a pro horn, but that is far out of reach right now. Maybe one day. The new student models represent a great value from your shop, and I am going to comment on that video that you did last year comparing six models.

I think you will notice an improvement with the alto as they have re-designed the neck, allowing for better intonation through the top half of the horn plus a better responding lower end.

Thanks for the video! The price difference between Signature and Supreme tenors of the same lacquer is 2k. It would be nice to see a detailed comparison in order to understand what went into extra 2k in terms of materials and features.

So, does this mean that the whole Super Action 80 line is going to be retired? I know that the SA80 III for the alto was discontinued, along with the Reference 54. Will the SA80 II be replaced by the Signature? Next to the Supreme, the SA80 II was one of the best alto I've play tested. Sad to see such an great model go.

  • @saxworldwide

It's not certain yet - I think it will actually depend on the success of the new Signature line. But be rest assured, the Signature is heavily based on the SA80, and really should be an improvement (see my answer to above comment). As of writing, I haven't tried an alto version - but planning to in the next few days.
