The new Samsung SmartTag 2 unboxing and review (2023)

Samsung SmartTag was a game changes for Samsung users, and I for one has been using them to track my vehicle, keys, luggage etc., for awhile now. Did Samsung made enough change with the Samsung SmartTag2 to make us want to upgrade? For one, if you have the older SmartTag or SmartTag plus, those will still continue to work. Thanks for watching and for this question. Based on Samsung's press release, the new features, such as the compass view will only work with UWB phones such as S23 and up. So the basic functions may work, but you'll miss out on it's advance features.

    @@dadstoysnthings I have the original SmartTag and it works with - My SAMSUNG phones: * Note 20 Ultra (Android 13) * S20 Ultra (Android 13) * S10+ (Android 12) * S9+ (Android 10) IT DOESN'T WORK with me: * S7 (Android 8) And it does not work with this mobile because Smarthings is not compatible with anything other than Samsung mobiles but with Android 10 at least). So if I can't download Smarthings, then I can't control the SmartTag, ST+ or ST2 Its operation is as follows: The SmartTag connects via Bluetooth and pairs with the mobile phone. Pairing allows you to "see" each other between the mobile phone and the SmarTAg at a distance of about 10/15 reals, because Bluetooth has a limited distance Where does UWB come into play? Well, the pairing is via Bluetooth, but the distance between the SmartTag 2 (the new one and the SmartTag+) reaches more meters, but above all, in addition to the distance, it tells you the DIRECTION with an arrow as if it were a compass, no. I know if I explain myself... But if the SmarTag 2 is connected to a Samsung mobile (minimum Android 10, which is the minimum to have SmartThings installed) without UWB it will work, but with the "old way", I mean it will detect it at a distance of 10 meters and IT WILL NOT INDICATE the direction with an arrow, I don't know if I understand myself But the great thing is that if you want to take advantage of its potential, it is to put a SmarTag in your car hidden, your child in your backpack, etc... Any person who passes near where the SmartTag is, You will receive a notification on your mobile! And in a period of 8 hours, I have received 15 notifications! It seems like magic, but that makes us see how very controlled we all are. How does it work?: The SmartTag communicates with a Samsung mobile that passes nearby, and without having to have any type of permission and authorization, The SmartTag uses the 3g/4g connection of the mobile phone that passes nearby, remember that bluetooth has a distance of 10 effective meters), sends said position to Samsung servers... And the Samsung servers send this position to me, to my mobile phone... Is it scary? Well, very... In a few days I will receive the SmarTag2, the pack of 4 for just over €90, I will do the tests and confirm everything said here All the best

    Thank you for watching! Thank you, excellent comment. Yes, there's still automation. If you have an existing setup, you can go through device settings and select Automation, then select the Action, either a single button press or by holding the button. The double press is already reserved to find the phone feature. In my case, I connected to my Lutron light switches.

    You will only see it of 1) you have an UWB (Ultrawide Band) phone such as Samsung S23 Ultra and 2) you need to be at a certain distance to the tag itself, which is a few feet. It will automatically update the required apps in Smart Things once you register the tag.

    The app records the last place the tag reported its location. So that's your first destination. Assuming it still has battery on you get to that last location and within 120m of the tag, you should be able to find it.

When I replaced the battery, my phone no longer recognized the former setup. I was able to register it as a new device without doing any reset.

    What if the car gets stolen? Is the thief notified that the car has a tracker in it? Does the tag ring when I want to locate the stolen car? The whole point of tracking a car is to hide the tracker so you get time to find the stolen car.

  • @dadstoysnthings

    @dadstoysnthings

    7 ай бұрын

    @MaleeLowbudget Good question! There's actually an app that tracks if there's an abandoned tracker. So hide the tracker well. If at all youre going to delay them while theyre trying to find it. As for ringing it, it only works if you're within the 120m distance, and that's really not accurate. The idea is the tracker logs the locations where the car has been so you can report it to the police. You can try and follow it yourself, but I would never advise confronting, always wait for the police.
