Why no handles

Most boxed brands don't have handles probably to streamline production and keep costs down. Plus they aren't usually made to be flipped. Dreamcloud and Bed in A Box Does but not sure who else have handles. Some are so cheap that they seem like they might rip off if you put any weight on them. They're more to rotate the bed than to lift it.

My wife and I have been sleeping on ours for 3 weeks now, we got the purple 3 from m atress firm they had all except the 4 on display we ended up buying the 3... Forget about it being extremely heavy and difficult to move because once you got it in place I Gotta say it's the absolute best bed for couples... The purple has a certain bounce to it but don't bottom out like the original... And just when you think you've reached the bottom that's when the springs kick in... I would definitely say this is by far the funnest bed we've ever used... looking forward to conceiving using this matress... Forget how comfortable it sleeps.. If you and your partner love to have fun believe me this definitely adds an extra level of excitement.... No Joke

Angel Cedillo no demo needed but that's important information!! We're going to guess the extra bounce has something to do with it too. There are two s words that make a better life! Seeing the crazy commercials purple makes I think a creative demo is possible using fruits and veggies and or any kind of food to get the point across almost like the movie Sausage Party😂..... You should get started now before someone takes these ideas.... Good Luck and I'm anxious to see if you guys can make it happen, I'd even try making a video if purple gave me a 4...

is purple 3 firm or soft ?

It's medium - in the middle. It has such a different feel than other mattresses in that you don't sink in much that it's tough to call it firm or soft. However, we've heard of more complaints of firm than too soft. This isn't what Purple would say but we recommend a mattress topper to add softness but still benefiting from the polymer which is so unique that you can't get it in any other beds (besides Intellibed).

Would you recommend the Purple 4 to a underweight 11 year old that sleeps on their side?

Choo Choo Chris I'd get a Tochta. Basic model. www.unboxmattress.com/tochta economical plus good quality and they've been making beds for others for years. They do custom mattresses for RVs but also have standard sizes.

Is the purple 4 better with or without a boxspring?

Pedro Calixto is tough to say. We use box springs because our bedroom set was pricey and we don't think it's important enough to buy a foundation when box springs work. However, Purple says using box springs voids the warranty.

It's interesting that they spent so much time saying that foam and springs are bad and then use foam and springs.

How soft is the 4? The original purple is too firm for me, i have pain when i wake up. I like a soft mattress! Will the 4 be soft or should i forego purple altogether?

It's not exactly soft. It's cushioning and collapses in a way that's difficult to describe. If you like the sink in feel you're not going to get it with Purple. You'll want to look for a mattress with memory foam and more plush. Linenspa and Zinus make softer beds. Many bed in a box mattresses are medium firm to keep costs down (one option) and since it's most popular.

I just purchased the original about 20 days ago. I almost turned mine in to get the new mattress until I saw that it is innerspring. I just got away from my Sealy pillow top. I will be sticking with the original. This will be good for the people that would like more of a traditional mattress over a memory foam style.

That's longer than average - glad you stuck with it!! It only took me 12 days but that seemed like FOREVER. But like you, it was well worth the temporary lost sleep to get amazing sleep every night for these past 2 years!

Give it some time - we think they'll come out with a full size in a few months. It took over a year for them to come out with a full size in the original. Hopefully now it will be quicker. Haven't heard them say specifically, so just going off what we've seen from Purple in the past.

Great question. It doesn't come with a box spring and they discourage using one (voids the warranty). It's somewhat softer, but it's not a huge difference. You still feel the polymer layer most of all. We recommend a 2 inch foam topper to add softness. Normally we wouldn't but since there's no other way to get the benefit of Purple's unique gel and they will probably never come out with one, it's a good option for some who love the bed but want more hug/sink.

How much noise do the coils make? Seems like after some time of being compressed/decompressed the material enclosing each one would break down and allow coil to completely fall out of place. Thx! (BTW, very interested in the P3, may wait for a pricepoint reduction though for Queen size or coupon)

The coils made no noise at all, even when jumping on the bed pretty hard. It's tough to say how they'll hold up but given our experience so far with Purple we're confident they'll hold up well. Purple doesn't offer coupons or sales (at least they haven't yet). Typically they add in a pillow (like right now) or other product with purchase instead. I think you should do a review on the 3 new mattresses and compare them! I can't decide whether I should get the original, #3, or the #4. I'd want the most comfortable one and most quality. I heard the original is a bit to firm and I'm not sure if I want that

After some time we realize that they are pretty similar to sleep on and the big difference is the height. You don't really sink in that far on any. That's from experience with the 3 & 4. The 2 may be the biggest difference if you're heavier because that's closer to the springs and you could hit them and it would feel firmer.

The original was out for almost 2 years before they added a full size. It will probably be faster this time but we're going to guess that they will have a full size eventually.

I have horrible spine issues 5 levels fused in my neck and 3 in lower back. I’m looking to buy a mattress with adjustable base and I’m wondering how big of a difference is the 3 & 4? I would like saving the $500 but if it’s significantly better than I will spend it

The Purple adjustable base bit.ly/2qtRf4q should be a huge help. The Purple4 has 4 inches of gel and is bouncier. If you're heavier it might be worth it because you'll sink in more and won't get to the foam layer underneath. But if your somewhat above average to thinner a 3 will be just fine. Sorry about your spine and back - that sounds tough. I've had back pain enough to appreciate how tough it is (thankfully not ongoing). A friend got one and it's been a big help for his chronic back pain.

Ok, got an answer. There is no weight limit but they said they 300 lbs per person or 600 lbs total is what they recommend. They also noted that if you exceed that recommendation it won't void the 10-year warranty.

Get a chance to try the 4”? I have the original and it’s the best side sleeping mattress I’ve had but I still have pressure points and have to sleep on an angle between side and back (wide shouldered weight lifter). Curious if the 4 would finally allow me to sleep on my side fully...

4 is very bouncy! You may get as good of a result with 3 though. If you're heavier/bigger then a 4 is what we'd recommend. We're supposed to get a 3 or 4 any day now and to say we can't wait like a kid can't wait for Christmas. It's almost torturing us at this point!

Yes, we've tried the 4 now. It's hard to believe the 4 wouldn't be ideal for any side sleeper. It's a lot of cushion!! It feels a bit like you're suspended as you sleep. A very unique but pleasant experience. It's tough to say much more because honestly since sleeping on it I have no recollection of anything from the time I fall asleep until the next morning. I sleep so deeply.

I'm a side sleeper too - 4 is the best but I'm confident you'll still like #3. To me this is the most confusing part of the new Purples. It's tough to know which one to get. However, the 100 day return policy will help if you go with the 3 and then need to upgrade to the 4.

I am going to get the queen of the original model when I move and I keep asking for purple to make a couch and recliner chair. PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE!

How does the P2 compare to the Original, comfort and feel wise? I would really like to get a P3 but is so expensive!! Do you think a P2 or an Original would be better for me and my girlfriend? I am 165 pounds and she is like 125.

01wolvesman the original is 9.5 inches tall, so a much lower profile than the P2 which is 11. But given your weight, that's mostly a cosmetic difference. The original is the floppiest mattresses ever. It doesn't have the structure that the new one has. I'm going to be honest that the original was amazing to me until I tried the P2 and then I was sold. There thicker cover that makes you feel the grid less, the edge support and styling is superior. However, without comparing you'd probably be happy with the original, as we have for the past two years. In other words you won't know what you're missing out on.

Unbox Mattress I read on a comment that you said you are a mattress geek. I can buy the original, and a platform base for $1300 or a P2 and a base for $1800. I can afford to buy ether but is the extra $500 worth it, I am a student so I don't want to feel like a got robbed. Look at the weight limit with the weight of the mattress combined. This one I linked to can support up to 600 lbs.That's the reason you'd buy a Purple brand frame because it can support more weight.

I currently sleep on a traditional handme down spring mattress and it's beyond me how old the mattress is. I am in desperate need of a new mattress, saying that I've done my fair share of research and have concluded that the classic purple mattress would be the best bed in a box for me. I am now in distraught after this release of the new hybrid purple mattress because I can't come to a decision of which one I should buy. There are no mass reviews on the new purple mattress out yet but quite frankly I can't wait that long. Hi Gustavo, too bad you can't go to Utah to test out all of them in the same room at Purple headquarters but know you have 100 days to return them if you're not a fan. A little inconvenient but you aren't out a cent. Not knowing your particular situation (size, budget, sleep issues or preferences) it's tough to direct you. Our Purple 2 hasn't come yet. It's so new that there aren't any reviews out yet that we know of. We should have one this week. If you have the budget we'd go with the Purple 2 over the original. It has much more structural integrity. It should last longer and it's overall a better made mattress. The original Purple was their first bed. They took customer feedback into account to improve it (adding edge support, coils, more gel, etc). Our biggest question is will it feel more "soft" (subjective because it means something different to everyone)? We're pretty sure it will last longer than the original. We had a baby mattress made of similar material and after years it looked and was almost the exact same as when it was new. The gel doesn't break down easily or quickly, the foam will likely break down first. We do like the additional height too, because at 9.5 inches in height, the original was a bit wimpy looking on the bed. That's probably the one thing we didn't like. The new ones have much more style and a thicker cover. Wish the cover unzipped but overall very excited about the new ones and can't wait to have more experience testing them. We have more experience with this brand than any other mattress brand and for longer. Hope this helps you make the best decision for you.

If you are a fan of the traditional innerspring, I would say try the new Purple. I, however, love my original Purple. I have had less and less pain from sleeping on the bed. I also did opt for the Powerbase, and I am glad I did! The Powerbase is awesome!!! If you can afford it, I would definitely recommend it.

Huy Tran it's tough to know because everyone is so unique. If you're average weight I'd go with Purple 3. Basically you don't want to hit the foam layer but have your body weight be suspended some by the grid layer.

so, the industry was getting away from coil spring mattresses do to the rapid breakdown and sag issues. Why should I trust that the new purple mattresses coils wont break down and create sag points after a couple years like all the coil mattresses I have owned in the past. Why didn't Purple just add taller elastomer layer and different layers of different density foam? Why ruin a good thing with metal coils? these would be the questions I would have asked while I was at the head quarters. Hopefully you can answer them since you were there. Thanks

Thank you for asking this question! We'll cover it in our review video. There is a big difference between open coil and pocket coil. Open coils are attached together to make a mesh of sorts. The coils don't bend and divot over time and are a continuous coil. Pocket coils are individually wrapped and are made of steel and a fabric encasement. They made everything work together with the purple gel stuff.

No, we're just affiliates for Purple and we're based in Utah (so is Purple). We're affiliates and sleep on Purple. In fact, we got their original mattress right when they started. We know many employees there (worked with some of them at previous employers years ago). They're super popular in Utah. Jared literally lives 20 minutes from their headquarters.

Oh, the issue is we copy/pasted it directly from the video - we had it transcribed for a blog post - because we wanted to get it right - how they said it. Apparently you can't say pocketed coils because it's trademarked (can't remember if that's the exact phrase they can't say). They made us stop and retake that part. We'll fix that.

I was leaning toward purchasing a purple mattress, but these new mattresses have really thrown me off. Purple's marketing used to be critical of mattresses with springs in them, and now they are selling mattresses with springs. As if that isn't confusing enough, the price is through the roof or these new models with essentially no explanation or justification.

rksu747 yes, they certainly have changed. They were anti establishment and then went to Mattress Firm where they needed to compete with the brands there. If I were a mattress salesperson why would I sell a $1,000 mattress? I'd get people in on the Purple name and then upsell them to something else. So they tested a higher priced mattress with the features of others in that class. It sold. In fact, salespeople said they could sell it for much higher than the price. So they came out with the boxed version that's higher end. They're publicly traded now too, which changes things. That's our take on it. After trying out the new mattresses we really want one. They make the original seem so basic. Most mattresses in this space are just big blocks of memory foam. Purple is truly different with their comfort grid (purple stuff). It is a totally unique feel and experience.

Funny thing is there were two couples there and another guy and they were all there to buy the new purple mattress

Unbox Mattress mattress firm actually gave me a free adjustable base along with the bed too and the price of the Purple 2 was $1299 which is $300 less than the price on Purple’s site so it was a fantastic deal. I was actually going to order it from Purple but mattress firm had such a great deal I just got it from them

Remember these new mattresses are sold in Mattress Firm. When compared to other mattresses in its class they are actually cheaper. Employees say that customers would easily pay $1k more for the new Purple mattresses. If you compare to other boxed mattresses it's pricier but again, they bring it to you and take away your old mattress. That adds to the cost along with the more expensive material. The polymer grid isn't inexpensive.
