The beauty of the Aquis design imo is it looks and feels like it's built like a tank while also having the delicate beauty aspect, particularly with the dials. Great watch!

This is the best description of this watch.

Just brought the calibre 400 in green, and honestly the hand jump thing when setting the time is not an issue at all, just roll back the crown 1/4 turn before pushing the crown in and it doesn’t move at all! Have worn this watch for the last two days and have had so many compliments…. Prefer the 400 movement, as it’s an in house, huge step forward for Oris and elevates their product line whilst giving them a footprint in the in house market. Love every inch of that watch.

really love this watch, and really glad oris went this way with a modern movement. as good as the old eta/sellita movements are (i own a few watches with said movements) i believe it's time to move to some modern ones. i really hope this movement will show up in other oris models as well, the big crown pro pilot model especially as i want one :D . well done oris!

I use the Oris Aquis as my daily watch... love everything about it except the power reserve. So wish this movement existed when I bought my watch! Would consider it in a green dial!

I love this watch. Oris has always been a personal favorite of mine. Gonna wait a bit to pull the trigger though.

I got the 43.5 in blue and I can’t stop looking at it. It’s absolutely gorgeous.

Teddy, great video and review as always. Have you witnessed the jumping hand issues when setting the time? It looks like it is a significant annoyance. From the responses I have seen, Oris seems to be passing it off as normal. Some have reported that the stem has to be “wiggled” to avoid the issue.

I bought this watch in Australia ; $5000 Australian dollars . It is an amazing watch and feels better on my wrist than other "bigger" brands , the quality is incredible on this new Aquis range .

Did you get the 43 or 41mm?

The build quality is outstanding and the winding is butter smooth. Prefer the Aquis 400 to my Seamaster 8800. Movement is actually 30mm in diameter.

When can you do a piece on vintage, pocket pieces like Waltham,they did some beautiful silver pieces. Pocket watches can look very stylish with the right suit, a chain hanging out.

Yep same for me. I used Omega for 8 years and now l just bought the Oris aquis day date and l keep wearing because l think it’s awesome.

Great review! Aesthetically this watch is not for me. I prefer a different dial layout & handset. Also I would prefer a regular lug opening so I could choose any strap I want to put on & not be restricted.

What a time piece!

If you like such innovations as ‚the jumping hand‘ and ‚the overshooting method‘ to handle it its a game changer. But only then.

Look nice on the vid but not so when it’s all wrap -up at the Oris boutique.. 😁..can’t even try turning the bezel..I would go with preown PO 8500..

10 year service for an in-house movement is acceptable from a price standpoint. For my 7 inch wrist, I find 42 mm optimal but having to splash out another 100 bucks for a rubber strap will be a bummer too. It should be thrown in for that price. For the layman though, its still only an aquis

This movement needs to go into the Propilot.

Is this a similar movement to the Baume et Mercier 120 hour “5 Days” movement? Would be very interested in a movement comparison between these two.

No, the baumatic is a piece of art in term of finishing and a complete different complication. The oris has a dual spring barel... Beautiful watch though. Having both.

As much i love the Aquis but 3500 bucks i can get a Nice used Aqua Terra.Not to take anything from Oris but like it more on the used market price.

Very nice but perfectly content with my SW200 model. 3500 plus dollars for the movement does not quite sit with me.

When this movement was launched it was suggested that the movement could be fully wound by turning it about 200 times. Has anyone managed to wind it until it stops? I've tried and failed several times, despite winding on the wrist.

Is there going to be a caliber 400 cherry?

Really beautiful piece, incredible mechanical specs, but I think it's far from being considered a game changer. It is a brand that shows an internal caliber, doubling the price of the previous Aquis. I think I already heard the same thing many times.

Love the Oris Aquis line. The aesthetics, the sleek but macho design can be for a dress up and dress down look. The build quality and price is absolutely worth it. Definitely a keeper when looking for an entry level luxury watch. I'm getting one soon!

Cant decide between this and the tissot seastar 2000

I like the sixty five better at 1k with good deal. At this price I would rather save just a little longer and get an omega or tudor.

This is an impressive piece. I’m a firm believer that dive watches SHOULD be larger so the size doesn’t bother me. But I’m turned off by the integrated bracelet and lack of an adjust-on-the-fly clasp. If you’re going to make me use the bracelet, give me an adjustable clasp. Otherwise it’s a good looking watch.

Definitely agree regarding the lack of quick-adjust clasp; its the only thing truly holding back against more expensive watches like the Seamaster Diver 300M (although not many, if any, offer that feature at this price point). While I would normally agree regarding the integrated bracelet (and I still do on other Aquis models), the fact that this bracelet has a quick release and a matching rubber strap makes up for that in my opinion (although I believe the strap is sold separately, which is a shame if true). The option to quickly change to rubber also softens the lack of quick-adjust slightly, but only slightly.

This is a great value for money watch. The movement has a higher power reserve and warranty than most luxury watches.

Oris is great but I still don’t see the value proposition in this offering.

I own it since a few weeks and I am happy with it. My wrist is 16,5cm and it fits nice, better than the more bulky Black Bay 41mm. I only stil didn’t find out how many windings it takes to wind up completely.

@@sagarpandita6916 I returned the watch after 5 months and got my money back. I had to many issues with it. The rotor blocked at least once in four weeks. I owned two copies of this watch and in both watches the caliber was replaced. After the second failure of my second copy of this watch my dealer took the watch back and returned my money. I hope you have more luck.

@@sagarpandita6916 the watch keeps working as long as you manually wind it, but off course that’s not what you want. If the movement has a serial below 011100 it can be affected. I had four movements in my both watches with serials around 006500, 005800, 010500 and 011100. All suffering from the same issue within 4 days and 4 weeks of daily normal usage. My dealer was very helpful, but he couldn’t help me anymore. The second watch was repaired by Oris in Switzerland (new movement) but failed again within 4 weeks. The reason I report it is to warn you that you’re not the only one if you have this problem. Oris wil solve it some day, but the problem is not officially admitted and you’re unsure when the problem will be solved.

Beautiful watch but I had to let go of mine for 2 reasons: 1. Jumping minute hand when you pull out the crown 2. The watch had stopped a few times way short of 5 days. Once I wore it on a 20km walk and it stopped in 24 hrs. Might be to with rotor spinning in one direction only Sad to let it go . Hope oris sort the above issues

That is why power reserve is really not as big a deal as many think it to be. Who cares if the tank is big but the filling of the tank is slow? Automatic rotor winding efficiency is important!

Does someone know if there is actually a green dial oris at 43.5mm calibre 400? On their website they have only 41.5mm. Although I could find only in 1 online store having 43.5mm with green dial on mr porter, while they even confirmed its 43.5. Authorised dealers all said oris does not produce the watch in green at 43.5 so dont even know... Thanks a lot

I've just ordered another Aquis. I could have bought it with the calibre 400 however, the Sellita can be serviced by any watchmaker anywhere and costs very little. In house movements are great but I always wonder how durable and reliable they are. Compared to the Aquis the BB looks like a dog.

My exact thoughts. This price point always used to belong to the Tudor BB58 for me, but I also always felt you'd be better served to save that little bit more and get the Omega. While I'd personally still prefer the Omega over this, once I've saved to the Oris price, the argument to keep saving has suddenly gotten a whole lot more difficult.

So many brands are increasing their prices, when trough on-line sales, the price could go down. Watch prices have no relation to costs.

Bingo. I don’t know anyone that’s buying this sort of stuff right now. The super rich will buy whatever they want but this watch would appeal to upper middle class.

With this movement it beats the tudor in my opinion.

As of May 2022 the web site says Aquis Calibre 400 is 41.5mm. Not the 43.5mm reported here. Did they change the case ?

Power reserve is best thing about this hands down! All mechanicals need to step it up. 50, 60 hr reserve should be standard on all autos even cheap $200 watches. This is 2021 after all!!! Let’s step it up. I find myself grabbing a quartz just because I don’t feel like hassling with setting the freakin time not to mention date every morning. Sometimes I wonder why mechanical even still exists and I have about a dozen autos myself?!! I mean really, are we like those record buying weirdos now?? Trying to be hip and all retro cool man?? Isn’t a smart watch or quartz leaps and bounds better just on functions alone?? Do we need mechanical watches?? No. But I get it, some like me still want them. It makes no sense but I do still admire the damn things.

It'd be nice if either a. The watch industry stepped up its game and started making more power reserves in this range (way more practical) or b. Started making more desirable high-quality quartz movements, which nowadays are unfortunately relatively uncommon.

how can you compare this with the Black Bay? the Black Bay costs $3900 and it doesn't even have a ceramic bezel... If Tudor wasn't associated with Rolex, it wouldn't be as hyped.

I still don't understand the hype around in-house mouvements, makes it harder and more expensive to service. Which to me is taken into consideration when I buy a watch. Then the 10 year bs, is just as good as the paper it is written on, let us wait the 10 years and see. There are always plenty of small lines where these guarantees fall in...

They may be overrated to some degree, but they are better in every way, add much more value, and I feel like a sucker for owning an Oris with an SW-200-1. And base grade ETA movements are terrible, in my opinion. I hate them and they almost always have winding issues within two years of ownership for me. If you can't afford to service a watch every 5-10 years. You can't afford that watch. For god sakes, 10 years is 1/8th of your lifespan. You would never hold a car to the same standard, which you most likely service annually.

No I didn't, I said I take all aspect of the watch to determine my purchase, same as with cars, for instance I wouldn't buy a car (no matter its price) if its service cost are high and servicing difficult (proprietary service center) to do...

I think this is one of the few in-house movements worth the price. If the service interval really is 10 years then you’ll have more than enough time to make money to service it. Better compared to Rolex’s servicing.

Some of the aquis models are listed as having a 39.5mm case diameter. Is this real or just a mistake?

The standard Aquis comes in 3 sizes. They do a 39, 41( Blue Dial) and 43.

I like Oris but I don't need 120hr power reserve.

If its your only/main watch then I completely agree; anything more than 40-48H is unnecessary. That said, it is cool to have a dedicated weekend watch that you can literally not wear all week, that will still be running next weekend.

Nearly 50% price hike compared to the non-cal 400 of the rest of the Aquis range is hardly justifiable. Don't need the 10y warranty/service interval or the 5 day power reserve. And don't even get me started on the technical issues cal 400 still has.

That price and not chronometer certified...

To the ones afraid of brand new releases, and if you like the lines of this watch, don't want to spend a ot of money on a diver and would love to keep the feel, you won't regret getting a Tissot Seastar model: T1204071104101 I own Tissots and Midos. Those are wonderful Swiss well made watches.

It might be that the integrated bracelet gives it a lugless appearance, adding to the "circular look". This is especially noticeable when compared to more conventional case designs like the Tudor Black Bay/Rolex Submariner or Omega Seamaster, or even Oris's own Diver 65. If you don't like the Aquis, but do like the Divers 65, its probably that. While I personally do like the integrated "lugless" aesthetic, it definitely isn't for everyone, especially if you've grown used to the look of traditional lugs.

Stop doing Oris videos until I buy one! You are creating a bigger market for them, they are highly underrated. Waiting for the caliber 400 to make its way into the big crown. That would be 👌.

no don't get the Oris the Casio calculator watch is the one to get!!! value goes up by 90% each year!!!

The case is way too big and the dial is too busy with text. they should remove pressure resistant and the 5 days crap.

When you pulled the crown I saw the minute hand jumped back 3 mins. Is this normal? You did not say anything about this Teddy!!!!!!

This is a known problem with the new Oris in house movement. I was watching just to see of Teddy would mention it. I was curious if he would be up front with it. As he is an authorized dealer, obviously he isn’t as genuine as I hoped he would be. A bit disappointed.

Oris was a decent value at $1,300-$1,500. At this price I would go with Omega all day, plus the new dial is not appealing to me.

I actually wasn't a huge fan of Oris's cheaper stuff because I'm not a fan of the Selita SW200. Back when ETA regularly used the 2824 it didn't matter, because the playing field was even, but ETAs newer Powermatic 80 (especially the Silicium versions) are simply better movements than the old 2824/SW200, so I'd rather a Powermatic 80 (or Hamilton's H-10) over anything Selita powered. This new Calibre 400, on the other hand, seems determined to play with the big hitting movements from Omega and Rolex performance wise (with a high level finish it would even hold its own against the movements in the Fifty Fathoms and SeaQ). I definitely think they're worth spending extra on if you can afford it. While I do agree in that I personally would rather keep saving for an SM Diver 300M, I definitely think this is technically superior to the only other watch in its price point (i.e. 2/3 to 3/4 of an Omega), the Black Bay 58.

I still consider the Omega SM Diver 300M the best diver under $10K. If you can't go over $4-5K, however, I considered the Tudor BB58 the best option; its only issue being that its so close to the Omega's price, you might as well keep saving. That title now belongs to the Oris Aquis Calibre 400. Unless you specifically want a vintage style diver, or you're a die hard Sub fan (where the BB58 is still unbeatable), this is definitely the superior watch. In fact, this new movement seems so damn good that it almost makes up for the Omega's finish and accuracy advantages (Oris Calibre 400 has literally double the power reserve and service interval of the Omega Calibre 8800).

@@hayios0 Oris certifies it for -3/+5 per day, which is within COSC chronometer requirements (-4/+6). I am unsure if it also receives COSC certification. While the overall accuracy isn't necessarily that different to your average COSC chronometer, the 10 year warranty means that if it starts running fast or slow 8 or 9 years down the line it can be serviced and regulated under warranty (most watches have a 1-5 year warranty).

@@hayios0 Same, but the difference here is that if a Patek falls out of -2/+3 accuracy after the 2 year warranty expires, you need to pay Patek to service and re-regulate it. With this Oris you have 10 theoretical years to get it re-regulated for free if required. I wouldn't get rid of it after 10 years, I'd just be more inclined to accept it losing accuracy, instead of paying to fix it.

If the mechanism does as advertised it's a technically impressive watch. The problem I have with this model is that there's more to a luxury watch than its mechanism. Companies like Tudor can use off the shelf mechanisms and charge premium prices because of their aesthetics, polish, strap etc. And there's an element of status. To all intents, this watch is identical to the standard Aquis. You're paying a premium price for what looks like a value, solid workman like watch. I think the watch should have had more " bling" for the bucks.

for the same price get a sheitling superocean heritage 2 or a tudor black bear instead Oris is a good brand but overpriced compared to these other watches or maybe you can save 500 more dollars and get a grand seiko snowflake

I would go with Seiko Marinemaster over this Oris all day. Marinemaster is much less as well. If you want to spend a little bit more can get an Omega Seamaster. Seems like for the price point the value isn't really there for this Oris IMO.

I think it's too pricy. Should be 2000-2500. I'll wait till it gets pre owned.

I agree with your comment. On the jumping minute hand issue, unfortunately this is a shared design issue where JLC 899 cal. is suffering as well. It is a common issue with precise movements in combo with a hacking function which is caused by an extra tention on the power train. You need to wiggle the crown to avoid it from happening. This common issue is confirmed by my independent watchmaker and affects the movements with low tolerances between the hour and time setting wheels. According to the answer from JLC, they can modify the movement manually under warranty to reduce the issue. Finally, I reproduced the same issue Omega Seamaster At with cal. 8900, but to a lesser extent. Perhaps this is why Patek Filippe and Vacheron Constantin do not feature hacking on their movements.

Well.. more water resistant, bigger power reserve and ceramic bezel? Seems like this Oris is an better alternative to the Tudor in almost every way. Is the brand reconigtion worth more on Tudor maybe?

Ok..so 1. Does Tudor offer 10 year warranty *AND* a 10 year interval for service? *NO* 2. Does Tudor offer *120* hr power reserve? *HELL NO* (half that) 3. Does Tudor offer a beautifully decorated movement *AND* an open case-back to admire it all day? *BIG FAT NO* So just stfu ! Basically if you buy this watch new you'll service it on your expense after *10 YEARS* !! And when you do the cost of the service will be 1/3 or 1/2 of Tudor's service. I'm not bashing on Tudor, in fact I love Tudor more than Oris but please let's keep things *OBJECTIVE* here if we're analyzing. This might cost close to a Tudor but what it offers in value technically is waaay waaay beyond Tudor and more like a watch costing 7k JLC watch. Also, after 9 months you'll be able to pick this up for 3k...now that's a lot of watch for that money.

@@jonathans2281 Originally for the price that they charge for using the Bog Standard Sellita. Now the price for their non cosc in-house movement. I'm no 'watch snob' I have plenty of watches with the standard sw200.

@@bettycooper9644 obviously not at all as they operate on another level! Just like how Patek no longer go for the Geneva seal as they have set a higher standard. Might add all are way out of my price range.. But one can dream?

Ridiculously to big, shame

Do you know what I despise about Oris? Their fucken LOGOTYPE. It’s so bland. It’s hard to connect with a brand with such a lack of ingenuity in their image.
