@@mwbrada I now own one of these amps and they really do sound good in real life and are super versatile. Honestly you can't tell the difference and they take pedals so well, the clean channel is pretty much built for distortion(I'm assuming you're after that tight Dime sound). I run a cheap clean boost and a 10 band eq infront of it and you can pretty much achieve most of the sounds you want from jazz to metal, it really is an amazing amp for the price.

@@beaumas hahaha no, I love Dimebag but I'm not chasing his sound at all. George Lynch's tone is the sonic perfection I'm seeking. Both George and Warren Di Martini had Randall endorsements back in the day. I am liking this Super Crush 100.

Here's info received from Orange Customer Support that is NOT available in the User Manual : .(1) The CAB SIM DI OUT on the Supercrush 100 is LINE level and can be directly connected to a LINE Level input FRFR Speaker (2) The Supercrush 100 can be operated with NO LOAD (NO CAB) and ONLY DI OUT connected to a FRFR speaker. I gig with the SuperCrush paired with a 2/12 cabinet and it does the job wonderfully. The clean channel is great and the gain channel is off the chart. Cranked mine at rehearsal in a large room, also armed with a couple of overdrives - which sound great into the clean channel, but the dirt from the amp (between 1 and 2 o' clock) is sensational at volume. Really responsive to the guitar vol control. Absolutely love it. You can shout about tubes VS solid state amps, once upon a time it was an easy argument, but one thing is for certain...If you arent recording and gathering a specific tone, no one is going to know a shred of difference with this amp, its 90% there in tone, brilliant!!

Are you using IR on the line out or adding an IR on the cab sim? I would prefer the Di. to be pre mastervol. it makes much more practical sense in a live setting, i.e. you can turn the amp down, check the monitor sounds, and then adjust the mastervol to taste, to fit the room. FWIW

  • @rivercityaudio4692

For silent recording, I have tested 3 different configurations: • DI Out • Effect Loop Send • Speaker Output to CaptorX I use an IR in all 3 cases. The CabSim speaker emulation on the DI Out is just frequency filtering so it still requires an IR as it does not sound good without one. There are two different filter options, but unfortunately there is no option to disable the filtering.

Jfet is the real deal. I have this 80s fender solid state amplifier that is awesome! But the crunch channel is very difficult to get along with. I bought boutique jfet pedal, that was supposed to give a solid state fender that power amp punch of a blackface tube fender. So Instead of putting in front, I actually installed into the effects loop. Man! It took that god awful distortion and made it sound like heaven!! So an 80s fender opamp preamp going into a jfet pedal - and it improved 30X!

Not knocking the head, It has a lot of road wear on it. A lot miles in the van. Either way its been in the shop three times since April(still not completely fixed) and I just can't trust taking it out on the road anymore. Def bitter sweet. I'm going out on a small tour in October so I decided to get something brand new, reliable and tubeless for once. I'm a bit nervous about it. But for the money, and 30 day trial I couldn't resist. Plus I've yet to find a truly bad review. Seeing this video with the designer just made me feel that much more confident in my purchase. I'll give a full update.

Thank you Ade! While the CR120 was a great amp? I personally couldn't gel with the one I briefly had. I discovered later that it either didn't get on with the 100 year old American wiring in the house I was in, or it just may had been an unfortunate "dud', as it hated my pedals, and would clip in the bad way. I'm super stoked with the choice to go with Jfets this go round, as this new Super Crush will most definitely now vibe with boost and OD pedal more convincingly because as a result, and the other decision to power it with the Class A/B Pedal Baby circuit means it will also provide a more convincing tone and impedance compared to the modern Class D offerings flooding the market. All in all? I think you got yourself the makings of a true "winner winner chicken dinner" on your hands mate! Hats off to you once more! Cheers from the North East USA dude!

I think a lot of people try it out and try and use it like any other amp, or through the wrong speakers, and end up not liking it. I mean I did the same thing, I'm on my second CR120 now lol But once I kinda learned its quirks and how to set it right I've fallen in love. It's not like my favorite amp ever and I wouldn't use it in the studio, but for a cheap reliable live amp it's great. I will say they really don't take their sound until they're at band volume; I rarely play mine at home (I'll just use an amp sim instead) because they're too fizzy and thin sounding at low volume. But when you crank them up through some vintage 30's they're a different amp... Like, my band plays mostly Jimmy Eat World type-stuff, lower gain, and it does that great (the trick is less gain than you think you need and just play harder, once you go past like 1o'clock it's too much gain for anything almost), but it also is ferocious for most kinds of metal when you turn it up. Turned up with the right boost pedal in front it's brutal. And yet, if I don't want the orange sound I've been able to go through the clean channel (channel volume very low to stay clean and master up to compensate) and use it as a pedal platform and it does that great too. IDK I'm rambling, but yeah I can totally see why a lot of people (myself included) sleep on them- you just have to know how to work with it

You wanna know which amp I had before all those amps and which one I still have and love? My CR120 crush. I sold every other amp except my Crush bass combo and my Cr120 head. Literally sounds exactly like a valve amp to me and takes all my pedals so well. The natural gain on it is exactly what I need and it dials in an amazing tone I use for jazz. Half the time I don’t use pedals because the amp has everything already. I love that amp to death, you must have got a dud.

@@Twilightzoneelectronics Most likely, but I also tried to use it like I would a tube amp in a variety of scenarios with no good results. With Orange going with Jfets this go round however? I expect the Supercrush to respond to boost and OD pedals more naturally if used in a more conservative fashion. Honestly? I see this amp selling like freakin' hotcakes within the near future!

@@EasyHeat Okay you have a really good point. The Jfets on the dirty channel do make it very round and not very aggressive OD like. I agree the dirty channel is very clear and crystal like but it’s really dirty and thick for some reason that appeals to me a lot. However the clean channel serves as an amazing pedal platform for just about any kind of music

@@Twilightzoneelectronics If I were to buy a gigging amp tomorrow? I'd definitely get the Super Crush on the grounds of potentially zero maintenance and consistent tone reliability. Not only does it sound amazing on it's own, and seriously look the part to the nines, but it's power section design is literally just the existing Pedal Baby Class A/B circuit. So hypothetically, by incorporating any modeler with an FX loop, or even better a Victory Amps Kraken preamp via the Four Cable Method?! The sky is basically the limit and I bet it would not only sound ACE AF, but would be a tank built touring rig at a fraction of the more typical investments! Honestly, just thinking about that scenario has got me seriously gassing pretty hard for one with a matching vertical 2x12 at the moment. Hahaha! Cheers man!

Although it's nice to save money, my decision for buying the CR 120h was strictly because I wanted more articulation and dependability. When I turn it on, I know it's going to sound the way I dialed it in previously and I don't have to wait a minute for it to warm up. A minute can seem like a lifetime when I've got an idea I'm dying to try. I don't want a tube amp! I love the CR 120 and it sounds like I'm going to like the Super Crush 100 even more..... especially with the cab sim! Nobody would be able to tell if I'm using solid state with the way I do have it dialed in.....I love it and I've gotten a lot of compliments on my sound with the CR 120h!

This is such a great video., having this amp's designer taking us through this amp's capabilities..there was a used one (combo) at GC at another store, so I picked it up...supposed to be in today. I haven't had a guitar amp in years...I have been using modelers to do my gigs (and depending on the gig, still will be using modeling), but in recording, I've just not been happy with modeler results...as well as playing out...I am going to experiment with this, putting it in the chain via the the cab simulator output...in the front, out the cab sim, using the send and return of the SY 1000) of what I am currently using as a modeler. (BOSS SY1000, which has models of amps, various modeled guitar tones, effects, etc)..hoping for great results...Thanks, Ade, and the folks at Orange for taking the time to do this overview.

IM SO GLAD YOU WORK WITH ORANGE!! It's by far, I mean FAR, the best solid-state Amp period! A Boss Katana is very, very good and has lots of their effect technology put into it, but as for SOUND, it's NOT comparable! Hell, I use boss pettles with your Amp. But as far as the comparability to VALVE AMPS, THE ORANGE CRUSHED IT! The distortion is so Fricking good and easy to set its nuts!! For $500.00 US? Unless you can make a better one, this IS!!.......

The Super Crush is finally making me sell my D class pedal platforms & Tech 21 style amps in a box. I liked the Pro but it was opamp based & obviously so. Dark, kinda flubby bass, felt more of a one trick pony, and more like a "pedal" on the gain channel. Good, not what I felt an amp should be. This thing was smile inducing from the first chord, and I'm buying one before they end up some collector's item or a victim of supply chain shenanigans. Tbh it's an amp that should've been built 30 years ago. All the tone none of the tubes (or 1s and 0s!). By a company not scared us cheapskates will stop not buying Rockerverbs!

@@edrowley1 you can run it into a PPC112 just don’t max out the master volume. You’d have to get very loud to blow the speaker and it’s unlikely you’ll be going over 60 watts in most situations. If there’s a problem you’ll hear it in the speaker clipping. If you’re a bedroom player you’ll be fine if you’re gigging you’ll have to be a bit more carful but I suspect the sound guy will be having words before you get close to blowing a speaker and the XLR on the back can be plugged into the board.

sounds very good on this clip as you would expect i'll be sure to give one a go if i see one in a shop anytime soon. I always get bummed out by channel switching drop outs on a lot of amplifiers it seems a lot of designs aren't really up to what they should be due to the way relays are built into the circuits. they have dropout or have some kind of delay between clean and dirty. i found hughes and kettner, peavey VK and jet city/soldano designed to work really well in the channel switching no doubt borrowing dumble ideas as soldano holds his hands up to by all accounts. as in instant switch when you hit the footswitch. can't say i have tried a rockerverb or other orange amps with this in mind. the marshall DSL such a cool sounding amp but the switching was awful. enjoy your amps guys whatever they may be.
