I’m a loss prevention manager for a department store that does 38 million in sales per terse and we can’t even convince law enforcement to take our cases on theft. The DA will throw them directly in the garbage. I’m hiring for three security officers and I have had two applicants in 5 months. This has ruined my passion for criminal justice completely. Nor does he tell his audience that basically the same thing is happening in Europe and elsewhere. Exactly in these times. Yes, you must wake up! Police departments, especially nowadays, typically do not take on any initiatives unless the powers that be at City Hall want something enforced and authorize taking action against whatever the problem is that they want addressed, for whatever reasons. While your frustration is understandable, it really should be directed at your elected officials and City Hall. This holds true for pretty much any city or municipality, regardless of who is in charge. In the situation that you cited, there's little doubt that the police department got its marching orders from City Hall.

Making harsher laws does not address the deeper issues which is why are they committing crimes in the first place. Because committing crimes is not a cause, but it's a after effect. In which if a man is desperate enough because of his situation he, or she will commit crimes no matter what the penalty may be. So if you can't somehow reshape the social structure of these cities, or at least give these people an equivalent alternative to crime many will continue to do wrong.

I mean California prisons are filled with prisoners doing long term sentences, and these street guys still manage to do outrageous crimes. But who knows for maybe a Rudy Giuliani type can change Cali, or what I call The Wild Wild West.

I’m a Canadian from a city of around 100,000 people in BC. Our city has been almost been overrun by crack heads and random street crime. People are being shot and stabbed at complete random by drug users and the police can’t do anything about it, very upsetting it’s dangerous to go downtown now no one really does and the heart of our city has been overrun

Michael, my brother was attacked and beaten almost to death by 3 16 year old teenagers. He will now have to live in a facility that handles traumatic brain injuries, as he will never be able to come home. They broke his skull in two places and then left him to die. Now we are having to fight to keep them in a detention center so they can finally go to jail. This happened in Sacramento California. Our lives are forever changed, we live in Washington State he was just there on vacation. They beat him because he wouldn't buy them ciggies and beer, it has been a year now , and I feel like we will never get Justice for Joshua Pettit. It's all very depressing and we struggle how to deal with it everyday of our lives.

This didn’t start recently. It started in the seventies and eighties, when America’s judicial system started letting criminals get out “early release”. In other words the term “if you do the crime you do the crime” was thrown out.

The liberal politician aren't the one storming these stores and pulling this shit, they're not the ones kicking in doors commiting violent home invasions, they're not the ones committing the armed robbery. I'm a Canadian and I feel so much for what your country and cities are going through. It is so obvious that crime rates would sore when these radicals started calling for defunding the police and relaxing laws. MaryK, I'm a Canadian also. Don't assume it's much better here. The number of car jackings in Toronto is escalating fast. There is a brisk off-shore trade in stolen Escalades and other vehicles in the GTA. They go to Africa, esp Nigeria. The MSM simply does not report it.

@@salicia4800 That's been a worry for me too. I'm aware of the stolen car problem happening here as well. Also, in my neighbourhood our Home Depot was robbed by a bunch of guys who took shopping carts, emptied a bunch of shelves and walked out, all in broad daylight. I'm in Ottawa and live in a quiet suburb. It seems we imitate what our southern neighbours do but hopefully it won't be as bad because as far as I know we haven't defunded the police...yet?

I had a retail business in Oakland CA from 1998 and finally sold in 2021. During that time, I was robbed, beaten, spit on, stabbed in the knee, had my windows busted out during a burglary at night for a cash register that had no money in it. Cost me thousands. 🤔 I’ve had my door busted out. I knew of a merchant up the street that had been robbed and beaten to the extent that her teeth were knocked out. These are people that have sacrificed everything and are now afraid to work in their own business. That doesn’t address the homelessness, public urination and defacation, lack of any real effective police response. I’m a woman as well. My brother once told me “you have to have an invisible circle around you. I’ve saved myself many a asskickings by swinging first once that circle was crossed”. It was eerily good advice. I pepper sprayed at least 3 people when that circle was crossed. Was right every time. Brick and mortar stores are not sustainable in todays climate. I learned to always trust your instinct. It’s God’s way of whispering in your ear.

I grew up going to Canoga Park where that mall is from the other side of the San Fernando Valley because my parents owned a business on the other side of the train tracks. Usually the crime stayed on that side, but the lack of law enforcement seems to have emboldened these criminals. It really is sad for me to see the rapid decline of that area.

@@neighborhoodlegal9929 Yeah. My parents used to run a machine shop across the street from where all those cement mixers go. Even back in the 80s and 90s it was pretty bad. I grew up in the Sylmar/San Fernando area. Not too much better out there either.

Pretty fired up today Michael. We got just to hold out for a little over a year and we can set things right and turn it around.
