That’s a very sad story, this violin had a hard time being born. I’m glad it has a happy ending.

I had a viola made by a really famous luthier. It had a pretty wild "wolf" on open A. I loved the instrument and tried everything I could think of. It turns out it was fingerboard resonance the free end of the fingerboard would vibrate and make a difference frequency, it would rattle your teeth!. All I needed to do was ad about a 3 gram weight under the free end of the fingerboard. Like magic the wolf was gone!

Try a Flesch model chinrest. They mount in the center right over the tailpiece. They have a model with a hump and without a hump. I often use the one with the hump but I carve the hump off. If you watch yourself play you hold your instrument pretty much in the middle and not really on the cup part.
