The new Lisbon's trams | CAF Urbos

Lisbon trams are an iconic public transportation system that has been running through the city's streets for over a century.
The tram network consists of six lines, which connect the main tourist attractions in Lisbon. The Lisbon tram network, operated by Carris, has a gauge of 900mm and, in 1959, reached its maximum size, with 76 km in length. After the peak of the network, lines were gradually replaced by bus lines.
Lisbon trams are an essential part of city life. They are a popular means of transportation for tourists and a symbol of the city's identity.
Note: Carris and Carris Metropolitana are different companies, which are in no way related.

The tram network is only accessible with the new CAF Urbos trams, series 600, on line E15.
Lisbon Carris CAF Urbos
In 2023, Carris received the new trams in its fleet. The 15 new trams are CAF Urbos and offer several improvements over the previous models from 1995. More silent, comfortable, and accessible, these trams operate on line E15.

These trams are accessible to wheelchair users via manual ramps. They have audible warnings for door opening and closing. Screens with information about the next stop and the route. They will have audible warnings for the next stop. The exterior is painted yellow, black, and white. The interior is painted white with blue upholstery.

    Nice model! Finally more capacity for line 15E. The lack of the front and rear door is in my opinion not a good idea. People will not spread out evenly trough the tram

    Am I able to scan a credit card on the validate machines instead of having to buy a ticket or pay on cash?

    No. You still have to buy a Navegante Ocasional card to use transports in Lisbon. The only transport mean you can use with your bank contactless card or smartphone payment system is the Metro. This might change in the near future, but at this moment, you still need the ticket card
