This video is a little longer than I normally do. I'm curious to know how many of you found it too long. Should I keep doing long ones like this, or would you prefer these videos to be around 10 mins?

I love your videos. I love Jays. My Grandmother did not..calling them trouble makers. I would agree with her, but in my dearest heart I adored them, I just couldn't in front of my Grandmother. I adore their screeching antics. I used to live in a small town, for 27 years I had learned how to garden and turned my little yard into a sanctuary. I had a family of scrub jays there. I never named them or hand fed them as you have. I just adored them. Watched them. They would have a fit if I cleaned up to much in my tiny yard...all walled in and cozy. I learned from reading about birds that you need to leave an area alone, wild if you can, and not to clean up every small stick of grass or yard debris. I even cleaned my hair brush out for the birds after reading about birds using it for nesting. I would see my hair in their nests as I was trimming a tree etc. The jays would shriek when I would find one of their acorn caches. My goodness the noise. I never took the acorns away, I would leave them out for them. Where I live now only has 1 big tree and not much in the way of bushes, but I have been working on that. Sorry for the length of this. I got carried away about the jays again. Thank you so much for sharing. You have given me ideas. Your videos are like watching National Geographic. I would love for them to be longer. Extremely well done. Thank you again.

It is strange and unreal to some people but the more time you spend with birds and get to know a few the more you realize even in the same species that they each sound a little different. I've been told by so many people who aren't into birding that to them the birds all look alike and sound alike, that they don't understand how the birds don't confuse their mates. So when I tell them they each have slightly different markings and sound differently I end up getting a crazy look, as if I have no life and they think that I'm spending too much time birding. This has been one of the most relaxing hobbies I have, it has taught me patience and helped my blood pressure issues greatly. Hopefully everyone is having happy birding times this Spring of 2023!

Being in the avian field as i have for nearly 30yrs now. And having worked "hands on" with everything from Warblers to Birds of Prey and Budgies to Macaws. I have too say you have a gift my dear friend. These Corvids trust you implicitly and i know all too well that takes time and patience to gain it. Gray Jays will naturally be tamer around people because their dubbed "Camp Robbers" for a reason. Anytime you go camping in the north woods and start cooking up beans or bacon they LOVE the grease afterwards. I live on Cape Cod, MA so we don't get any Gray Jays here. But we have some big Blue's for sure and they always relish the peanuts i put out for them. I often tell folks when i am asked to lecture on birds that if want to attract Jays on a steady basis whole peanuts is the way too go. They relish it over sunflower seeds any day. The Gray and Blue encounter was interesting too watch. When i visited my brother out in Oregon he gets both Blue's and Steller's Jay's. And since the two have been known to hybridize they seem to tolerate each other better then the interaction i saw between the Gray and Blue in your video. However, when i visit my folks down in Florida the Florida Scrub Jays not the Western variant as they are two different birds but the Scrub's don't tolerate the Blue's very well. And the Blue's are much smaller down South then they are up North. But that can apply to many different bird families as for example the Southern Bald Eagles are much smaller then their Northern counterparts. Keep up the great videos you obviously have a gift and they trust you.

I had seen them flying down at Winter Park ski area while people were eating their lunch outside whenever they held their hands up to offer them something, they got their lunch too. My favorite maple leaves were on a small tree by the highway outside of Ely MN, just beautiful. When I think of people going up to see the changing of the Aspen in CO just going up in the mountains to see yellow trees.

Lesley, I can't get enough of your videos. I love the wilderness and haven't been out as much lately so your videos bridge the gap a bit! So make the videos as long as you want! You could make part 1 and part 2 and part 3...try that. This footage is just too yummy to waste a single bit...if one is into birds, they certainly do not mind the length of the video. People need to get their own Secret Space. A naturalish spot they visit on a regular basis and HANG OUT for a while. One of the best ways to relearn the natural world and all the interactions of the different life forms.

Not fair, you seem to be having all the fun. I do immensely enjoy watching these videos, they do get to know you after a while and are quite at ease, incredible how some of them seem to think your palm is their perch.

I enjoyed this so much! It wasn’t to long in my opinion. Very informative and refreshing to watch, so important to be aware of the beauty around us, especially in these difficult times. Thank you.

I love your videos Lesley. Not a problem. I look at them all the way. Even if they are long. You are a very in depth naturalist. You are in tune with the birds and animals around you. I am too! Except one thing...i can never get them to get food out of my hands!. You are lucky. you have a gift.

Beautiful blog. I love how you covered a month's time. So glad we share the White Throats & Juncos. I suppose they don't trade places with other migratory birds there in Canada as they do here in the mid-Atlantic states. I'm happy when the White Throats arrive with their familiar song that I find so easy to imitate, but when they leave, the Cat Birds visit with their often, almost-whispered mimicry as if they are just talking shyly to themselves. What a lovely life you have in such a peaceful place. Thanks for sharing it with so many. My best, from Virginia

Fantastic shots. Great editing. Great everything. Down here in FL, scrub Jays act similarly when a few birds from another scrub Jay tribe show up. Territorial. They also put one bird on sentinel and raise offspring communally. It is quite amazing.
