Gas or hybrid for a handful of reasons but as a second or third city car they’re amazing. To many horror stories about how these E cars become junk before even paid off due to the expense with battery failure. We’re very close, maybe in another 5-10 years but as of today with the high MSRPs and limits I’ll stay gas. FOR NOW…… 😉👍🏻
There is only one car for me...make the Element again.

Wow! I have an original 2009 Honda element, going on 190000 miles. I just purchased a 2024 honda hrv sport but kept my element because i know my element will outlast my new one. YES, i agree, best car ever made. I had a cop stop me to give me his card , in case i wanted to sell my car. I love my element!

This is no element, no suicide doors, not cheap enough and not a Honda.
@FriendoftheSubReddit

This. They’d have to come up with a design that opened up the side of the vehicle, like suicide doors do. The doors are a big factor for people with disabilities and people with larger pets, both significant demographics for the Element
Cheers Stephen, but NO COMPARO!!! The low floor in the Element is everything!!!

@StephenAldaco Yeah, this is more akin to the Scion xB than the element. Could find everything flat and fit a full-size air mattress in a first-gen. But nowhere near the height of the element. If get a pilot before this any day.
Over the years, I've owned a dozen Honda vehicles, including several CR-Vs. I love their simplicity and reliability. Honda could produce a new Element based on the current CR-V hybrid fairly easily and without a lot of incremental cost. I think they're missing a huge opportunity to cash in on the Element's cachet. If such a vehicle were released, I m-i-g-h-t even consider upgrading my '05 EX!
@StephenAldaco

I’m holding out hope that they drop it one day. They also have the new ev platform which I think they could slap any sort of shell on top of.
The lack of vertical space is the worst bit. My Chevy Traverse seats can all lay flat but the lack of headspace makes my 05 Element my preferred camping car.
No tailgate and no suicide doors, boo! 😢 Can we swivel the seats? Honesty, I am not ready to give up my Honda Element anytime soon. Great videos Stephen.

Yeah no swivels that would be really cool but I doubt we’ll see that from the many factor only aftermarket.

I always had mixed feelings about the Element's suicide doors. The could be annoying if you had passengers. I didn't mind the front seat belts being attached to rear doors on the older models since it still allowed for the height adjustment.
To me, it just looks like every other SUV on the road. Even if Honda was to bring back an updated version of the Element, don't think it would be the same. I love the simplicity (and quirkiness) of my '05 E car. I believe you are right, electric cars will be the future.
Show it with bikes standing up in it with their wheels on.

Not a fan of EV’s if you been following Ford they stopped production of the F150 Electric and have reduced pricing on the EV Mustang. As for use in off roading the issues that I have is range. I haven’t seen any charging station in off road areas plus battery life is diminished in cold weather. I think they should do a hybrid which would make more sense. In closing I think the Range Rover, Defender looks more like the Element. Would love to see a review of all the boxy suv’s that would be 😎 Thanks

There is so many boxy suv the Range Rover is definitely an element clone for sure. Upvote this comment if you want to see that video!
Lousy range if you wanna hit the road and travel a lot, be out in nature etc.. Too much of a hassle to have to be constantly looking for a place to charge it in a city.

Can anyone help me understand the importance of a missing tailgate in R2? Instead they included the pull-out thing, that works like a 'bench/table' etc. But what other use is the R2 really missing without a tailgate?
Babe and I were looking at these this weekend. Very cool car, I actually like the smaller one that looks like a Gremlin even more though. As far as ALL electric I just can’t do it. They don’t work for true interstate travel effectively and are best as in city only cars IMO. My little sister in Costa Mesa just bought a Tesla two weeks ago and she already agrees it just may not work for all she wants to do. All that being said they’re all amazing prices of modern art and machinery but still to limiting for proper adventuring IMHO.
@StephenAldaco

Yeah I can see that plus having range anxiety does not sound fun at all! The Rivian R3 definitely looks way cool like an old VW golf. I’m sure hopeful that Rivian will find their target demographic and we can keep coming out with cool cars in the future.

lol it’s the closest I’ve seen but I agree it’s no element.
I wish it had the suicide doors.
It looks alright, however the main problem i have with my current vehicle, the xtrail, which this new one also has is that the wheel wells are on the inside of the car. Youll notice with the other boxy vehincles they still kept them on the outside. Its something that makes it a little more difficult when you want to fit it out. I have a 4 cube storage bit in my car only because I had to make it fit between the front seat and wheel well. I wanted my cubes to be more like Rosas but couldnt. Also, no suicde doors is a bummer. They still make suicide doors on Patrol utes as my sister got one a couple years back. The tailgate is something that id love on my vehicle and so ive been jealous of the Elements with theirs. Overall id say its a nice car and it does have some good things about it 7/10 however its not an element and they still 10/10 for me as theyre my dream car.

I know I hope one day you get your element and join the cult with us haha! After making this video I noticed a lot of trucks have clam shell doors so maybe I was wrong about that. Having small or no wheel wells is a game changer for sure for a build out. Thanks for being here Kat.
It will be interesting to see how many R2's (or just Rivians in general) make it to 300,000 miles...a trick which Honda has mastered pretty decently.

That’s a fair point. I wonder how many batteries it will go through in that time.

🤷♂️
Split rear hatches (as in a tailgate design) are problematic for automakers in that they are very difficult to fully seal. Not for only for water but in terms of exhaust fumes. Airflow over the roof creates a lot of turbulence behind an SUV and can acually pull vapors into the rear passenger compartment (it’s also why rear hatch and glass get so dirty). Obviously exhaust isn’t an issue on a EV but old habits die hard.

Great design. I'd buy it if it were a hybrid, but don't feel comfortable going out backcountry and needing a charge.
dude... it's like 4 feet tall. Starts at 45k (what, it's cheap relative to their other 80k suv?)... runs on batteries that make it a terrible choice for cold and even slightly remote environments. Sorry, I like your channel, but this is straight up silly.

I know and they have it on the R1S. Cmon Rivian.
Nope. Height appears too short to sit upright in back with the seats folded, so that’s an automatic No from me. And the charging infrastructure nationwide isn’t broad enough or maintained well enough for me to go full electric yet. A hybrid Element would be a no brainer, Honda is really leaving money on the table by not designing one.

Thanks for the great car review, Stephen! I like that the Rivian has front folding seats. Not really into all electric though & the 45k price point I think is too steep for the average person especially with high interest rates on auto loans. Wish Honda would make new Elements starting somewhere between 20 to 25k at most. Any word about Honda making new Elements again? Thanks again, Stephen. With Aloha, Matt

New Elements at 20-25k? Lololol! If you look around , Ive got a guy across town selling an E for just short of 20k. Its an 08 with 142 k miles but he has a roof rack and a ton of camping accessories that come with it. Way overpriced but thats todays market. It out of control. Hell, dealers are asking 10+ for varioys years with less than 200 k mileage and no rust. Im talking 04-11s it nutz! No, a new E will start at, over 30k maybe higher due to demand.
I like the ev element. Hopefully I'll own both at the same time!
So, I wonder if or when someone will see if the R1 total lift and tail gate is just as long as the R2. Then just fab the R1 to fit the R2. The new Element it will be. Would I buy it then...... No, I'll stick to my tortoise fast Element knowing I can go to 300 miles on a tank of gas(Ok let's be honest 265-280) fill up and go. R2D2 will need hours to charge. It's cool though give it that!

I love the idea of not being dependent on gas and foreign oil but the horrible environmental impact of the lithium mining fields in South America plus lack of charging options for longer ranges makes fully electric vehicles unattractive to me.
No suicide doors, no tailgate, back seats aren't REMOVABLE. Does it have Elements rubber floors or carpet? A Hybrid would be excellent but full EV? Not yet. The tech and US infrastructure isn't there yet. I'm not seeing an Element, it's boxy, yes, but that isn't enough to replace my Element.

I have element 08 very good condition DC area. Will sell soon. It is a one of kind. Music & cars. No likey the new stuff No everything is not going electric. There are still gas vehicles for sale.

Team Gas! Why, first of all I don't think that there's anything practical about solar cars, to long to charge, takes to much electricity to charge and what part is biodegradable? Yes, I love my portable batteries, but these cars aren't going to survive. I think Ford did a better job making a copy cat Element, but it just isn't the same. 🤪

I have an original 2009 honda element. Going on 190000 miles and never had an issue. You cannot compare any new vehicle to the honda element. You want to impress me with a new car.
