    This video is on a topic that strangely results in skepticism so I'd encourage you, if you don't believe anything said, to look at the number on the bottom left of the video when something is said, find the corresponding number in the description, and read the source of the info. Every assertive fact in this video was researched and published by someone with far more qualifications than myself so those references are the ones to read to learn more.

    I actually live in the arctic, in Norway’s biggest arctic city, which is Tromsø with around 76k inhabitants. There are cruise ships regularly here, and personally i find them bad. After they arrive, all of the snow in their vicinity is turned brown from their massive CO2 exhausts. And as for global warming, not only has there been less snow in the past years, but the snow comes later in the year, and also disappears earlier than before. Greetings from Tromsø.

    Hi there! I imagine the huge majority of the 4 million people who live around the Arctic Ocean are in Russia, wouldn't you? They're a totally unique people, who have cities of 250,000 in the Arctic whereas most other places, 25,000 would be large.

    Nathan Campbell if i were to make an estimate. I’d say there are at least 30 international cruise ships visiting per year, but it can be less in some years and more in others. It doesn’t help that there’s a mini-cruise ship line going down along Norway, and those ships stop in Tromsø twice a day.

    You forgot one major factor the Arctic will face in the future and that is the Geopolitical repercussions an open and accessible Arctic will have. You have many nations now attempting to assert their sovereignty in the North, with many territorial disputes still unsettled. This could lead to a militarization of the Arctic as countries try to secure their land and maritime territories. We are already starting to see it with the massive Russian military expansion in the Arctic, as well as US and Canadian procurement of new naval assets for Arctic patrol and control. Overall great video though!

    The rise in temperatures in the Arctic in 2018 was part of a global phenomenon. Across the world last summer there was incredibly high temperatures - particularly in Europe, US and Japan - which is still having knock-on affects today (for example, in the UK we experienced 51 days with no rain in some areas which has meant crops have been lost). This year I expect it to be lower, but of course over time it will gradually rise. You can tell 2018 was an anomaly in the data from your graph at the start of the video comparing Arctic temperatures from 2013, it rose to a much higher temperature at a much higher rate than the last few years.

    A very interesting topic - climate change will most certainly have the effect of changing the economy of the Arctic, something which likely would have never been conceived of 50 years ago. Even militarily speaking, it appears that Russia is looking to make use of the Arctic judging by its recent military exercises.

  • @valeriavagapova

    @valeriavagapova

    I don't really follow politics or military stuff, but didn't Russia have military bases in the Arctic for ages? At the very least I know that Severomorsk, a town next to Murmansk, has been the main Russian navy base for decades (my bro served there) because it never freezes thanks to Gulfstream, and then there's also Severodvinsk not far from the Arctic circle with submarine factories and shit

  • @LancesArmorStriking

    @LancesArmorStriking

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@valeriavagapova I'm not sure, but it'll be interesting to see if Russia does anything besides military with the Arctic. As far as I know, Westerners (tourists in general) are less comfortable going to Siberia than they are to Norway or Alaska- it's a national image problem, I think. So I don't know how much tourism Russia will get from this. But I'm almost certain they will charge hefty prices for ships passing through their waters, as they already do with airplanes over Siberia.

  • @valeriavagapova

    @valeriavagapova

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@LancesArmorStriking Oh yeah, I would love to see more tourism like that! But, sadly, seems like Russian government is not exactly focusing on either developing tourist industry, encouraging crossnational cultural exchange or improving the image of Russia (LOL... actually surreal to recall how much more positive Russia's international image was even just 8 years ago.) In fact, seems like the government might be trying to indirectly discourage tourists from visiting Russia, seeing how visa regulations for Europeans got even more strict and complicated lately. Basically all of my European friends say that many people would be a lot more likely to visit Russia if only it was easier, but it's only been going downhill so far. Another problem can be lack of tourist-oriented infrastructure (outside of Moscow and St.P) and, honestly, lack of aesthetically pleasing architecture in Russian towns, especially far North. I'll be honest, when I visited Murmansk on my way home after hitchhiking in Northern Scandinavia... Murmansk seemed beyond ugly and tasteless compared to even the tiniest Norwegian village. Which is really a shame, because honestly our land has so much potential in terms of tourism and otherwise, and it wouldn't be that hard to make it work if only the government cared. Ah well:(
