I've got a question. Not sure if you can answer. I have a Cobra 8 I just installed. I've also got the Castle Link program. From what I understand the punch settings are in reverse. With "disabled being the highest and 100% being the lowest. But I've tried all the settings. And even at the "disabled" setting the punch is very delayed. It acts like a level 2 punch setting on a traditional style setting. Am I missing something here? When you hit the throttle right at the beginning of this video that punch seems sufficient. When I hit the throttle it's insanely slow to respond. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For my XRT Ultimate I bought two smc 11300 batteries. On the instructions, it states to make sure the batteries are in balance. I have the Traxxas ezpeak live dual charger. Am I able to check with this? Or do I need to purchase a balance checker? If so, you have one that you recommend? Instructions also state to not discharge them below a certain voltage. So I’ll be able to check voltage with the balance checker device right?

  • @DoRC

You'll have to charge them using the app because you have to use the app for any batteries that aren't Traxxas OEM batteries. You can check the cell voltages inside the app. The ESC will automatically shut the car down when the battery reaches a safe low voltage. You can then check that with the charger using the same method. That being said having an external battery tester is never a bad idea.

@@DoRC instructions state the following: “Ideally you need to check the voltages of the cells in the pack once you have reached the cutoff voltage your ESC is set at. You want the cells to be in the high 3.6 to low 3.7v range. If they are lower, adjust your ESCs cutoff accordingly. For those using ESCs that don't have an adjustable cutoff or it can't be set high enough, you can purchase our Precision Alarm Kit and set it at 3.7V.” I’m assuming I can manually change the esc cutoff using the Traxxas app with the Bluetooth link feature that I have on the xrt. To me at least, it sounds like it was a known issue in testing but marketing deadlines to push towards a committed release date put more pressure to get the ESC in the hands of buyers first. Had it been a hardware issue, they wouldn’t have been able to release the ESCs. However, being a programming concern, it afforded castle the ability to simply release an updated firmware at a later date. This makes good business sense, especially when the ESC work flawlessly with the motors it was designed for: castle creations sensored motors.

  • @DoRC

Maybe though if you claim the ESC will work with sensorless motors it really should work with them. There are plenty of people in bashing running soensorless motor so it's not like it's some edge case. @@DoRCit’s possible they didn’t catch it or that it wasn’t something that happened during prototype testing. There are a lot of issues that present themselves only in production once a manufacturer is making all of these offerings in volume. The good news is that they are now aware and have acknowledged it. So I would imagine that a firmware update is around the corner. The bigger scope of this project is not limited to this one ESC. In fact, I would hazard a guest to think that it is merely an introduction to 32-bit processing power and it’s limitations being discovered with these 6S power systems rather than to release it with a higher voltage or high-output system. This makes sense so that they work out those little kinks that only volume production can expose. I Would go out on a limb to even suggest that if and when Castle decides to finally release XLX3, that it will be using this processor. The expensive part of any ESC is the ability to regulate a wide range of DC input voltage. Overall, I do not look at this ESC issue as a problem unless firmware cannot correct it.

@@h3llfir3rc I completely agree. I expect every new ESC to come out from Castle from now on to have 32-bit processing. @@StewMac570 this isn't cogging and I tried it with four different motors off camera two of which were castle motors. The issue occurs even if the vehicle is already in motion which I showed. Cogging occurs when the system can't determine the rotor position from a standstill through back EMF. It doesn't occur once the motor starts spinning as the ESC can read the back EMF at that point. The same motors and gearing showed no issues with two other ESCs which I also tested off camera. It is true that the issue doesn't happen every single time but it happens the majority of the time. Most any castle buyer is buying it for the tunability, performance & sensored features so more than likely the appropriate motor will be used with the specified motor in the kit. If you don't wanna run sensored hobbywing Max8 G2 is the ESC for that. Most all these kits have proprietary components nowadays no different from the spektrum which I believe also need a firmware update for the new V2 150A ESC *as I believe was seen in a previous video*
