I guess the game is still fairly imbalanced since they found the meta combo fairly quickly. On the plus side, there's quite a few meta combos to choose from

Replace Luigi with Link/Rosalina/Boo and add Rollers and u have the meta.

Wanted to let you know that watching your videos finally made me go back to playing Mario Kart! Watching your videos made me understand the game a lot more, so I feel like I'm actually playing the game better thanks to you haha

Playing this combo has got me more Blue Shell I-Frame dodges than my entire career before. Edit: That 12th place was karma for all the good things that happened in every other race. Great racing as always Shortcat! I wanna see you do a video playing in strange public tournaments! It's fun to join ones with strange item setups and what not.

I did like this combo when I tried it, however I felt that the mini turbo stat was just slightly too low for my taste so I instead like to pick things that sacrifice the one point in speed for a point of mini turbo. Birdo, mach 8, roller, gold glider is what I like using as of late. Invincibility isn't as high but it never seemed to effect anything enough to justify investing in it too much.

Agreed. Invincibility is not THAT important, as it only comes into play once in a while. But your mini turbo stat being too low can mess you up all the time.

It's a really good combo, though I think Daisy/Yoshi + Inkstriker is very slightly better because of the extra traction and anti grav speed.

I can see that. I haven't decided which i like more out of the two, but i think the purpose of this combo is to have "enough" mini turbo stat, and have the rest be in speed to help on speed-focused tracks. Also a little more weight and a lot more invincibility!

Yes, it's so much better seeing a variety of characters online. There are over 15 optimal characters and a few optimal vehicles and tires. Whereas before the update, only Waluigi + Wario tier (5 characters) were arguably optimal.

What in the hell I've never seen a bullet last that long in my life. Which is still kind of hilarious because the last I actually played Mario kart was probably on a wii u if you want an idea of how little I'm interested in it. You seriously impressed me with the tech and the meme combos.

I use the Pipe Frame A LOT. And it’s given me very good races. It is a good replacement for the Biddybuggy for medium class characters like Daisy, with Rollers ofc. I’ve yet to try it with GLAs tho

I’m glad Shortcat brought up that talking makes it harder to race. I am silent and focusing so hard as trying to get all 3 star ranks right now. I can’t imagine being this good at racing while constantly talking and explaining things and being entertaining the whole time. It makes me wanna see how good he is while he’s just focusing on playing.

Fun fact, did you know that the "wa" from "Waluigi" is actually Italian for "not so high invencibility in Mario Kart"? That's why Luigi has higher invencibility, since he's just Waluigi without the "wa". True story.

Yes, it almost never helps. But when it does help, it helps a LOT. Personally I agree with going rollers for your reason, but I think invincibility has an argument for importance.

If you play mogi lounge you’ll find that yoshi on inkstriker with rollers is also a common build. I don’t know if it’s definitively better than luigi on teddy with gla tires, but it is another build to consider.

You got me back into playing Mario kart but how did you get that space wallpaper while choosing the different menus?

You can also get these stats but trade the invince stat for more traction if you use Link + Yoshi Bike + default glider (inward drift).

Great video as always!! As a lightweight enjoyer (usually baby daisy, mr. scooty/teddy, rollers, cloud glider) I've noticed it's really hard to keep up in online matches now 😞 Is it even worth running lightweights with the new meta? Or do i cave and go for heavier characters

I can still win when frontrunning with a baby, because I'm very good at taking advantage of mini turbos. But when I am behind, it is very hard to catch up. You mostly rely on the speed stat to make comebacks. If you still like the mini turbo advantage of lightweights, try yoshi/birdo/peach/daisy. They have 1 less mini turbo, but 5 more speed. Or if you'd rather swap out other parts for speed, some good options are teddy buggy, inkstriker, sponge tires, GLA tires, and plane glider. keep in mind that babies have a low stat total, so the optimal way to get more speed is to switch your character. But even being slightly suboptimal can still be completely viable!

When I was in your situation, I kept all the same vehicle parts but switched to king boo and started getting better results. The mini turbo stat really doesn't need to be that high as I've found out, because king boo's lower handling stat actually makes it easier to charge mini turbos at max speed. A great example is the ending mushroom shortcut on ribbon road. I can get a purple mini turbo with king boo, but not with baby rosalina since I'd turn too sharply.

Scooty doesn't feel like it drives the same after wave 4 patch 😞 birdo on biddy/teddy has done me really well too, but i feel like baby daisy has become a major part of my mariokart experience as it feels much better to whoop ass around friends as a lightweight. But again thank you so much! This comment helped me a lot :) hit 5k vr last night!

You sacrifice mini turbo in that case, but it would put you at the same mini turbo as waluigi wiggler. So its definitely acceptable!

not gonna lie i feel like that thing you said about certain karts/characters having advantages on certain tracks should be a real thing in the games. it could encourage people using more characters.

Right now its already true, just not in the way I said (Luigi on a Luigi track). Right now, more speed is good on mute city, and more handling/mini turbo is good on neo Bowser city, more traction is good on snow land, more underwater speed is good on dolphin shoals. But when you play online the track is random, so you need a combo that is well suited everywhere.
