With the new 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman, we are entering two pure-bred athletes into the race: thanks to turbocharged induction, their four-cylinder horizontally opposed engine develops a remarkable 220 kW (300 hp) from a capacity of just 2.0 litres. In this video, Markus Baumann (Manager Development Boxer Engines) explains the challenges of the engine development and the similarities with the engine of the 919 Hybrid.

It's going to be hard to convince customers (including me) the V4 is good enough for a Porsche sports car.

A v4 does power the Porsche 919 race car tho..seems to be enough for that Porsche sports car.
i have a 718 boxter S with the sport exhaust and the sound is very bad, i was really in love with my old 981, a shame!

I think it's "B-4 engine" (Boxer?) , but I'm not sure. Either way, I'm happy with my 2016 Cayman GTS!
