so about "paying people to stop suing them" bit, the script made considerable effort to emphasize the whole evil capitalism theme there, but I have to say, the reason people sue in the first place is to be compensated for the unrightful damages done to them. That's just how American legal system works

In 2018, the State of Nevada sued the federal government to block a plan to ship "more than a metric ton" of plutonium to the site for temporary storage. In 2022, the government acknowledged that 13,625 cubic meters of radioactive material conforming to its disposal criteria had been shipped to the site for disposal.

There is a bar in Las Vegas called the atomic Café which is on Fremont Street. When I lived there in Las Vegas, it was a rundown bar in a crackhead neighborhood. And no I did not see Hunter Biden anywhere. Stories had it the people would come to this bar so it’s the climb up on the roof to watch the nuclear explosions. Fremont Street has been cleaned up into a very nice tourist area all the way from the plaza hotel out to Eastern Avenue, and the revamped atomic café is open for business. In other interesting news, there is a nuclear test museum East of the north part of the Strip

I can't help but wonder about the ecological damage caused by weapon testing, versus the damage caused by nuclear power electricity generation. I suspect nuclear electricity generation's effects is infinitesimal in comparison as far as damage and safety. In other words, nuclear power is the best, safest, least damaging way to produce electricity on a massive scale. There is a waste issue, but it is starkly less than weapon testing's legacy.

There is an error in the beginning. It is stated that the United States kicked the locals off of bikini atoll without their consent. This is not true. The United States got the consent of the locals, but they promised the locals they would be able to return after the tests were over. They were returned to the atoll after a period of time, but then they started getting sick, so they were taken away again.

You do realize that it's not that easy, right? That what's done is done? Simon made his choice, and there is literally nothing we can do to change it. He's moved on to other projects. That's that. Karl is doing a fantastic job with hosting. He's got a history with these channels, with TopTenz etc, and he's one of the main reasons why Simon, Today I Found Out, and TopTenz took off. He deserves this shot.

I was told my grandfather was the sole survivor of one of the nuclear test sites in Nevada that had live US soldiers involved. He died of cancer much later in life but had medical issues for the entire time I knew him, always had a neck brace on, and many more issues I believe associated with the testing fallout. He died quite a while ago and I never asked Dad much about him since he wasn't involved much in any of our lives, especially Dad's so I have seen him only a handful of times before he died. Funny thing, if grandma didn't keep his records even after divorce, the military would have been successful in denying him attendance as well as responsibility for medical care that they tried so hard to do.
