I think the loud 'school kids' were probably university students-to-be. The fraternities have introduction weeks (and lots of hazing rituals) in the summer before the first semester starts.

The Russian flag is actually based on the Dutch flag because Peter the Great spent time in The Netherlands learning to build ships. That's also why St Peterburgh has canals. Inspired by Amsterdam.

The reason that you didn't smell marihuana so much outside the city center of Amsterdam is that there are much less tourists. I seriously don't know any Dutch person who ever did drugs, but all my foreign friends did it at a certain point in their lives.

Well , well over 17 Million makes the Netherlands (or Holland) bigger than Portugal, Greece, Sweden, a.s.o. It is the most dense populated country in Europe. Because of the well thought out infrastructure you wouldn't realize this travelling through-out the country. B.t.w. the French took over the red-blue-white flag because The Netherlands was the first republic in Europe after the antiques of Greece and Rome. Tzar Peter the great also took over the red-blue-white after studying shipbuilding and city planning while he lived (anonymously) in Dutch Republic as a kind of tribute after he build St.Petersburg with the help of Dutch ingeneers ......

it was Oranje Blanje Blou like the previous South African flag. The Dutch called it the Prince Flag. Red White and Blue after the Napoleonic era.

So nice to see people actually exploring more than just Amsterdam. Loved that you guys went to Maastricht, it's great imo.. there's also a mountainbike tour you can take in the caves all the way to a town called Valkenburg wich has some really amazing scenery as lots is build with marle.

Lol Europe is a pretty big place so I'm not too sure about that one :P But yeah...things are definitely very different from things down in Australia!

The 'caves' in the St Pietersberg are not actually caves but the result of quarrying marl. Such quarries are in quite a few places in southern Limburg (Valkenburg is famous for them).

Yeah, just like they call Zandvoort aan Zee, IJmuiden en Wijk aan Zee 'The Amsterdam Beach' since 5-10 years or so. I mean, it's probably close to Amsterdam for tourist-understandings, but nowhere near Amsterdam for us Dutch people.

So why nothing about Den Bosch? The world famous weird creature painter Jeronimus Bosch was born there somewhere in the 16th century. Maybe a little less about amsterdam and more about the rest of the cities. Amsterdam is globalist with posers that live there. Ah 2:49 no, that's not a traditional Dutch lunch ;) Soup for lunch isn't all that common and though there are probably quite a lot of people who like a kroket, it is not traditional to eat for lunch. Judging by the fancy wooden tray it was served on and the bread used, this was a 'hip' restaurant that probably charges you the pretty penny for something silly. A traditional Dutch lunch would be pieces of bread with cheese or some meat. Peanut butter or sandwich spread is another option. For someone with a sweet-tooth, there has to be a slice of bread with chocolate sprinkles.

This is what I got off Wikipedia: Two accounts of the flag's origin connect it to the tricolor used by the Dutch Republic (the flag of the Netherlands).[1][2] The earliest mention of the flag occurs during the reign of Alexis I, in 1668, and is related to the construction of the first Russian naval ship, the frigate Oryol. According to one source, the ship's Dutch lead engineer Butler faced the need for the flag, and issued a request to the Boyar Duma, to "ask His Royal Majesty as to which (as is the custom among other nations) flag shall be raised on the ship". The official response merely indicated that, as such issue is as yet unprecedented, even though the land forces do use (apparently different) flags, the tsar ordered that his (Butler's) opinion be sought about the matter, asking specifically as to the custom existing in his country.[3] A different account traces the origins of the Russian flag to tsar Peter the Great's visits to Arkhangelsk in 1693 and 1694. most flags in the world with red white and blue are from Dutch decendens! One example is the Russian flag, which on its own influenced a ot of flags in eastern europe!

Another fact. The Dutch flag with the colors red,white and blue only emerged at the end of the 80 year war. In 1648 orange was replaced by red. The colors orange, white and blue come from the time of the Repulic of the Seven Provinces. The Netherlands as a country did not exist yet.

double vowels means its a clear open A as in KAAS or HAARLEM only one A sounds like as in dutch words jas Tas bak. Tickets for Anne Frank House you better buy online, it saves you ours of waiting in line

Actually, I believe you now _have_ to buy them online. You then get a ½ hour timeslot for arrival and everything works great - visited 2 months ago (Mar 2019)

Don't tell me that as a Norwegian, you never saw an electic car. Over half of the cars in Norway is electric! Don't tell me you never saw bulbs. And don't tell me you did not know that the Dutch flag was red white blue (I know the Norwegian flag has the same colors and a cross in it).
