    Hi, I'm so glad I found your channel, it's fantastic! I'm really torn between the wagon and the large raised coop. Because of where mine has to go I was wondering if the roof comes off both for easy access/cleaning? Thank you so much

    Hi! For cleaning the entire back wall removes on the large raised coop. We show that in our review video linked to below. On the Wagon as you can see the whole front opens easily. Both roofs can be removed, but the Wagon is three panels whereas the raised coop is a single panel and much easier to remove. That daid we clean every day and have nor needed to remove a roof yet - the full door on the Wagon and removable wall on the raised coop make cleanout simple. The raised coop is easier to clean without bending, but the Wagon is much easier to move around and easier for chickens to access. We love both but the Wagon is our favourite. Great review. I was surprised to see the door problem. Probably the best door on the market, Run-Chicken, has solved this in a very simple way in one of their older models - once it reaches the bottom a spring loaded pieces in the bottom corner activate and lock it in. So when the door opens in the morning, the first thing it does is pulling in those pieces on the side. But of course the price of the door is half of the price of this coop...

  • @EnglishCountryLife

    @EnglishCountryLife

    Жыл бұрын

    We have had long discussions with the team at Nestera about this and a number of ideas have been discussed 🙂. One idea that has merit is driving the door up and down with a cog engaging on a toothed strip on the back of the door so unless the cog turns, the door is locked in place. Sprung or weighted chocks, cross bolts & more are also possible. It's all about price , performance and reliability. They really do practice continuous improvement (as you can see from the changes from the prototype already incorporated into the first production version)

    I love so much about this coop in theory. But my main question is, do you use this coop with very large breeds? I am considering a few Bielefelder hens (3-4) and am concerned that the coop could be too small, considering their size.

    Hi Simon (big waves to your good lady 👋👋). Short answer is that all our instructions show the nest box on the right, so that's how we built them. BUT you made me think. I've just looked at three coops & I think the two sides might be reversable. Leave it with me?

  • @EnglishCountryLife

    @EnglishCountryLife

    9 ай бұрын

    Right Simon & Mrs P . We just went round three different coops pulling clips 😁. We think it COULD be done but not in an ideal way. Each coop section has a rough side that faces outwards and a shiny side that is on the inside. The shiny side is easier to clean although both are able to be jet washed. To reverse the sides you would have to put them on "inside out" (i e. with the shiny side outermost). I'm fairly sure that would work but haven't actually taken a coop to bits to try it. Hope that helps? Hugh

    Late to the game, but hoping you have some advice for me! We have had the wagon now for a couple of months, but now the temperatures are getting below freezing… I’ve seen some frost on the inside of the roof plate and sidings 😢 How do you winterize your wagon? Any tips are highly appreciated!❤

  • @EnglishCountryLife

    Hi Kirsten, bear in mind that most of your chicken's insulation cones from the down under their feathers trapping warm air like a quilt. Keep an eye on their comb - if the points look blue that's an early sign of frostbite. With the wagon it's worth closing the variable vents (there are still dixed vents) and adding very thick layers of bedding for insulation. We do put a covered hot water bottle in on very cold nights too

    Whilst I really like the concept of the material and it’s ease of cleaning and it’s anti red mite pros they’ve priced themselves out of the market for most back garden or small holding chicken keeping folks, which is a shame as I do think it’s got some good features. To me the long warranty is good but doesn’t come close to making up for the price. Oh and by the way another good review. Thanks

    The Wagon is very much the luxury end of their coop range, they do have far more affordable coops in the range. I've built decent wooden coops and materials are now frighteningly expensive. The last one was 12mm tanalised t&g. Marine ply floor and roof and 35mm tanalised framing and all stainless fittings. To make that now would cost £300 to £400 in materials alone. Of course you can buy cheaper imported wooden coops - but my experience of them is that they don't last more than a few years. I wish there was a cheap, safe, long lasting coop - but if there is, I haven't found it yet sadly

  • @bobhayter8526

    @bobhayter8526

    Жыл бұрын

    @@EnglishCountryLife Yes all agreed, I also prefer to build my own and understand the cost of materials nowadays all too well, decent quality marine ply has always been expensive and I'd settle for a decent quality exterior grade although even then you can get some seriously flawed products. If I could source similar sheet recycled materials to what they use at a reasonable cost I'd try it to clad a timber frame. Unfortunately it's a maze on line when you start Googling!! One of the main reasons I prefer to build my own is the flexibility over size and design. Cheers
