You are so correct when you say how you eat also affects how your hair flourishes.

We Be Drinking Gallons Of Hennessey, Eating Waffle House At 3am, Not Sleeping Properly, Eating No Fruits & Veggies, Smoking Hookah & Wonder Why Our Hair Isn't Flourishing 🤦🏾‍♀️

I love my natural hair I started as loose natural and now I have locs. I think black people have to let go of the obsession of long hair honestly. As you said some of it is just genetics and short hair is beautiful too 🤷🏿‍♀️

I agree some of us are so stuck on having long hair while neglecting the health of our hair. I also was a loose natural and now I have locs.

Having Traveled To Many Countries & Now Living Abroad, Trust Me...Long Hair Is Not A "Black People Only" Obsession. Many, I Mean MANY Ethnics Takes Pride In Having Long Hair. For Example, You Rarely See Indians, Or Middle Eastern Woman With Short Hair (If Anything They Are More Obsessed Because Culturally It Is Ingrained In Them To Have & Retain Their Lengths). Long Hair Has Always Equate As The "Beauty Standard". Even The Bible Speaks About Woman's Hair Length. So, I Don't Think Black People Are Obsessed. I Think People In General (Both Man & Woman) Are Obsessed With A Woman's Hair Length.

Most Honestly Just Don't Know Or Don't Have The Patience To Take Care Of Their Hair. My Mom Did Not Want To Deal With The Maintenance Of Her Loose Hair & Decided To Loc As Well. The Loc Side Of The Natural Hair Community Helped Her Realize This Was Best For Her.

@Wilonda Previlon it's not our culture sis lol from my analysis of history it comes from other cultures and that's fine those cultures it makes more sense for them to have that obsession as some of them grow long hair without trying lol so not trying to make it seem like is a black people only thing lol of course Indians have it too whites too but it's easier and more natural for them to imo which I'm entitled to lol ijs 🤷🏿‍♀️ we need to let it go it's not that serious imo

@Wilonda Previlon some will argue the Bible is not black in origin so to me that's not a good reference lol and I'm sort of Christian myself and idgaf about forcing long hair 😉

i went natural (stop relaxing) before it was popular and before there were any products....had to DIY it up!! that was 10+ yrs ago. but a yr ago i started relaxing again...and DO NOT regret it!! ive historically been a lazy natural...w a 4(a-c) texture. the influx of naturals n products made being natural daunting and everyone an expert. i was over it, quick! i like the flexibility of being able to chemically treat or be natural. 1 good month of no relaxer n im back natural! 😂 i never had a length obession (although my mother n elders did). ive been faded (short hair) n had long hair n faded again. i say all that to say DO WHAT TF U WANT W UR HAIR!!! its a beautiful accessory...play w it!!

And I Love That You Found What Helps Make Your Life Easier & More Enjoyable! Yes The Older Generations Definitely Are Attached To Length. My Mom Looked At Me Crazy When I Faded My Hair Short Twice 😂 But She Got Over It. Once You Realize Products Are Just A Way Of Life, You Grow To Ignore It For Where It Doesn't Serve You. I Think Social Media In General Brought Fourth Too Many Products At Once When Brands Realized That Side Of Marketing. It Was (And Still Can Be) Overwhelming!

Its doent matter how we feel about our natural hair it's never going away and you can relax it and manipulate it as much as you want but the fact is our hair is forever the way it is so black women just need to embrace their hair rather then running away from it take breaks even if you have to with protective styles but your natural hair will always be what it is just embrace it and all it's flaws because it's never going to change so the movement is alive and well in my book and I love my fro most of us just don't know what to do with our hair and we don't understand how to maintain it people want quick results and that's the problem I've been natural for six years and it's still a struggle so 🤷🏾‍♀️

I Agree 💯% Taking Care Of The Hair We Were Born With Should Not Be As Hard As We Make It Out To Be. We Just Think It Is Hard Because We Look At Other Ethnicities' Hair Maintenance, Then Look Back At Ours & Think It's "Too Much". No Matter How Many Times We Press It, Relax It...It's Still Going To Come Back As Its Natural State. So Embracing All Flaws Is Key!

This is going to be a very unpopular comment, but I think the downfall of the natural hair community was planned/hijacked. The natural hair community was completely hijacked by those of a looser texture. Initially it was started by women who had 4c hair looking for community of women, who want you to embrace, learn how to turn off for a lovely natural hair. In the earlier days, the products were specifically geared towards those women companies like Shea moisture, carols daughter etc made products that worked a charm for our hair type. Them came the other folks …,……. As the popularity with their hair type grew people became obsessed with trying to “find a curl pattern” to look like the other girls, when we all know 4c hair does not have a uniform curl. Brands started catering more towards these hair textures and unfortunately these girls became the face of natural hair movement. As a result products that we grew to loved no longer worked due to the change in formula. A lot of us feel defeated, everything we try to start for ourselves gets hijacked. They tell us we don’t love ourselves, We don’t love a natural hair but when we started loving it, they still wanted us to love a certain type of natural hair. So I get the girls that have gone back to relaxers. Because today a lot of the products simply don’t work like they used to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I Don't See Why All These Textures Can't Work At The Same Time. I Understand Where You're Coming From When You Said Their Hair Texture Became The Face Of The Natural Hair Movement, But Honestly They Were Always The Preference. So For Marketing...That Was What Sells. I Don't Understand Why Brands Can't Separate The Lines For Different Textures Instead Of Trying To Cater To The Majority & Label It As "For Naturals". Because My Natural & My Friend With 3c Are Both Naturals But Two Different Naturals. You Know What? 🤔 Now That I'm Thinking About It. Do You Think It Was The Choice Of Wording That Lead Us Astray With The Products? I Feel Brands Are Now Not Just Labeling All Of Us As "Naturals" Anymore. They Are Saying "Coily", "Kinky" etc. For Their Product Caregories. Edit.. I Had To Add: Naw, I Rather Spend Every Dime I Have (Even Though I Now Know You Can Be Natural For Very Cheap Now 😊) & Keep Working To See What Works With My Hair Before I Ever Go Back To Relaxers 😩 My Hair Is Way Too Fine & Fragile For Those Harsh Chemicals. I Tried It Before After I Was Natural For About 3 Years. I Relaxed Cause I Wanted To Do Finger Waves 😩 I Looked So Bald & My Barely There Edges Were Even More Barely There! Naahhh, I Prefer Volume Over Length.

Girl the trip part about it. God gave man the knowledge to temporarily change the natural state of hair since we were teased from other races & teased & hated by our own kind for centuries, but he never gave us a formula to permanently change the state of our natural hair till this day…selah. God said aht aht this will forever be your roots no matter how hard y’all try. 😂 I mean the Bible did state he had hair of wool but that’s a whole other topic. Don’t want no one coming for me like your upper comment quoted from the Bible days about woman having long hair as an obsession 😂 just like they might come for me if I state 4a & 4b natural wavy hair texture come from interracial humans procreating during slavery 👀
