Nothing will ever make me feel the way this song makes me feel; nothing will ever feel again like I did when I heard the first chorus of Mistaken for Strangers for the first time in 2007. This song is not only an incredible work of art, it's also my last tether to a life, to a version of me, that is all but gone. When I hear this, I can almost hear her again, almost feel her heart in my chest, a 17-year-old who knew nothing and felt everything and had no idea how much she stood to lose. The National have been with me through every version of me since. They are inextricable from my story.
I listen to a TON of music. Everyday. All different bands, styles. The National are one of the greatest bands I have ever heard. Boxer is one of the greatest albums I have ever heard. I cannot believe that many people have never heard of these guys. Thats a shame.

@johnnykleen - sadly, 14 years later, and not much has changed. As a fellow connoisseur of all things music, it's absolutely mind-blowing to me that such an amazingly talented band, has been under the radar for so long. @yesimerin - what did you think? Did you enjoy your journey into The National?

Love love this line, lyrics of this superb song are super'llicious-expadaliocious.
This song perfectly encapsulates the drab, melancholic life that every 20-something went through around 2006-2010. The economy sucked, the internet became more prominent, and everybody just wanted to tuck away and fuck the world off

"Another uninnocent elegant fall into the unmagnificent life of adults" Awesome lyrics, love this band.
"And you swear you just saw a feathery woman dragging a man blind fold through the streets..." this song is great.
This song brings an infinite angelic love and forgiveness to us all, despite our uninnocent fall into the unmagnificent lives of adults. There is yet an elegance to our existence that's worthy of love and attention.

The 'droning' baritone voices of Paul Banks (Interpol) and Matt Berninger (The National) are reminiscent of Ian Curtis (Joy Division), giving each of these bands a common thread - and I love them all.
I thank Rememory for introducing me to this masterpiece

Dark, astoundingly beautiful and fantastically executed, my favourite song by these lads
If you think it's empty then stop trying to like them. Personally, these guys are in a God Tier to me.
still solid and never got tired in listening to this track
Sinister, profound, intimidating & sincere all in one fell swoop. Please make way, there's a modern classic coming through here.
Goddamn I love The National.
still remains ridiculously good today. The track that introduced me to The Nat. Still may be my utmost. Drum work is exemplary, as always. These guys just continue to make excellent music.
You get mistaken for strangers by your own friends When you pass them at night Under the silvery, silvery Citibank lights Arm in arm in arm and eyes and eyes, glazing under Oh, you wouldn't want an angel watching over you Surprise, surprise, they wouldn't wanna watch Another un-innocent, elegant fall Into the un-magnificent lives of adults
The National never fails me when I need to hear some quality tunes.
After all these years, this song (and album) still gives me chills; fantastic work by a great band.
This song is true splendour
I can't believe that I came to meet this band a few months ago and know that this excellent song is more than 15 years old, how much truth in its lyrics, great vocals and its rhythmic instrumentation, I really still can't understand why until now I got to know this group.
This is a masterpiece !!

The drums on this track are monstrous
Awesome still
I never thought about that The Natinonal would sound like Interpol, but theres one thing I can absolutly agree...I saw both bands live on stage, Interpol was great, but The National blowed me away. one of the most magnificent concerts I've ever seen!

brilliant, the day I get sick of this track is the day I get sick of music
Bands like this one remind me that there is still good music out there. I wish more people would be aware of those bands. I LOVE this song and The National in general.
A passing word about their involvement in portal was enough for me to check these guys out, and not long after I'm already anticipating seeing them in Reading. Amazing.
I really like this song. Especially the lyrics.
Time flies! I remember when this first dropped. The National definitely stands out from the post-punk garbage of their era.
I used to skip this song for 7 years but now I finally dig it.
The lead singer's voice is absolutely amazing. It reminds me much of a new age Morrissey. I can't wait to see these guys on tour in my area.

These guys are great - that's understood. But this song is just totally extraordinary. The video fits the song like a favorite pair of warm leather gloves, too. Perfect song to full your head while walking around NYC on a chilly late summer's eve.
Whoa. I've loved Bloodbuzz Ohio for the longest time, but only just got around to checking out more of their stuff. HOW COULD I HAVE BEEN SO STUPID TO WAIT SO LONG? These guys are amazing.
The lyrics are so goddamn depressing. I love their brand of Post-Punk: Making it all about working class instead of the typical depressing nature.
