Napoleon has long been called _”The_ God of War” with the most recorded victories of any general. Even when at an immense disadvantage, he managed to pull of success that simply boggle the mind.

The most sobering fact about what these wars did to France is that 1/5 of all Frenchmen born between 1791-1795 died fighting for Napoleon.

The thing is that most of these wars were declared on Napoleonic France. France rarely was the aggressor. Napoleon was just so good at warfare that he kept beating each coalition giving him the ability to negotiate peace each time on his own terms.

@@christophermichaelclarence6003 These numbers are pointless, because it doesnt factor in when these nations were formed or in which geographical and political situation they are in. For example how do you want to count Germanies wins, when they formed in 1871. How do you count it when Germany was still split into small kingdoms, duchies, barionies etc. Nations like the UK and France have a huge advantage over the US, Russia, Germany and several other countries because for the simple fact that they "existed" earlier. Doesnt mean that they shouldnt get recognition, just that that comparisson isnt good

One interesting aspect is to compare the numbers of soldiers and armies fighting here in the napoleonic wars with the in comparison small numbers in the american civil war almost over 50 years later..the southern states had General Lee,but they would for sure have needed someone like Napoleon on their side to really make a difference...

Napoleon. That name alone struck fear into the hearts of tyrants. The Enlightenment on Horseback. The Revolution personified. The very image of the self made man. The last truly great “Great Man” of history. The God of War. He was a great general but perhaps an even greater statesman. As First Consul and then Emperor he basically built modern France.

England, since they were kick off from the continent, have always fight most powerful continental country by gold and diplomacy (means, pay other country to fight the powerful one).. They do that against the Habsburg (Spanish + austria), then against France, during Louis XIV to Napoleonic era, then after against Russia, then Prussia.. Even as a French, I've to admit, English were, and still are better at diplomatic game, than everyone else.
