The Myths About Rape: Panel Discussion

What is rape? Who does it? Who does it happen to?
Myths and untruths around rape and sexual assault have devastating effects on how many rapes are reported and the decisions made by juries and judges.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Martin Hewitt, Rosamund Horwood-Smart QC, who in her 38 years at the Bar has tried many rape and serious sexual offence cases, and Professor of Law Joanne Conaghan set the record straight and explained why changing the debate around rape, which has long been dominated by ideological and fixed views, is crucial to prevention.
The event was hosted by broadcaster and journalist Zeinab Badawi.

If you got fucked up mind you're gonna do something bad anyway. Be it rape or murder, I don't think you can unteach people to commit acts of violence. There is however a number of cases where the woman claims that she was raped and automatically everyone believes her, and it's the guy who actually needs to prove he's innocent (guilty until proven innocent). I don't find this ok. There are cases where women went to jail for falsely accusing of rape. I also don't think it's ok if both the man and woman are drunk and they have sex and automatically the guy is the rapist. What if he passed out and she jumped on his dick then what? It's obviously a very touchy topic but making the guy automatically a rapist because he had sex with her when they were both drunk. Let's be honest, drunk women are usually "loose" and horny, they go to fuck. Next day comes and then they get regrets. Some want attention so they call it a rape. In other cases it's actually the truth.. the girl passed out and the guy had sex with her which is a rape then. It's a very grey topic area. Another grey area is what if it's he says she says? People automatically believe the woman which is extremely sexist in my opinion. Isn't law equal?

I like how this SaelPalani character posts a ridiculous message and disables replies hoping she will not get any backlash. "Men who rape, watch out: you're not in control any more. The discussion is changing and you won't be able to get away with it any more." For years Men have been convicted purely on the basis of the word of a victim without actual evidence of rape. Do you have any sympathy for them?
