I don’t see myself to be one of those people. I don’t know how to really escape the cave to begin with. So I remain contempt on being a fool who’s willing to learn what I can and be open to anything. Rather than live in false belief and learn nothing outside my own understandings. And hopefully one day I’ll achieve such a thing, if not I hope I set a good example for future generations

The problem with this allegory is that people often tend to believe they are the enlightened one and that others are the ignorant prisoners. Instead, the allegory of the cave should encourage us to be more critical of our own beliefs, rather than make us believe we should act as sort of messiah on a holy mission to 'open' other people's eyes.

Actually, I think the point is that as long as you made the attempt to open others eyes it's enough. Forcing it, like this enlightened man, could cause either yourself or someone else to get hurt. The important thing is that you tried.

I've seen on a couple of shows that if people accept the truth that goes against the religious faith, their lives means nothing. Or if a vengeful person who takes it out on anyone instead of just the individual who caused their pain, that hateful vengeance is all they've got, without it they emotionally have nothing to live for. The lies we tell ourselves or personal opinion truths is easier to grasp then facing the factual truth. Its all you've known and what u live for. If u accept the actual factual truth, then u must say goodbye to those before and start all over without guidance (those who came before and taught u).

@@sumanbatabyal197 I never said it's the same. I said similar. Mahabharata even has a story in same line where one man realises the truth but others refuse to believe in him and stay in the shackles of Maya. The entire concept of moksha in its simplest form is based on this. Adi Shankaracharya even wrote a similar story in Advait vedanta where a group of travellers travelled a certain path at night. Once they saw what resembled a big snake coiled in the corner so they avoided that path. They returned the next day but the snake was still there, the next it was still there, when they tried to approach it, the shadow seemed to move so they left. One fine day a brave man chose to examine it and realised what they perceived in the darkness and shadow as snake was just a rope.

Not really. The metaphor actually illustrates the behaviour of the middle ages church. They felt they had achieved Enlightenment and tried to enforce it, which led to their own destruction. The fact is, "truth" does not have one definition, if you feel you have a truth, spreading it is fine/good. But enforcing it without consent is selfish.

Socrates tried to bring light and knowledge to the polis, to expand their thoughts and vision through logic and understanding, but was put to death for it.
