Weight definitely matters!....unless you were John Brzenk in the 90's, in that case no amount of weight advantage could save you from him.

@Abhinav Prakash trubin didn't do what he did to brzenk when brzenk was in his prime. Prime Brzenk is a completely different monster. When trubin faced him brzenk wasn't the same as back in 2006 - 2009. Many can debate when Brzenk's prime was but between 2006 and 2009 Brzenk was at possibly his strongest form.

Levan Saginashvili is the best example, he once said when he was first competed in Georgia Championship at 90kg, he was barely move anyone, but when he at 100 kg he made it to top 3, then top 2 at 110 kg . It worked for him very well!

It's important to make videos like this in order for the sport to mature faster out of its 'freak' stage. Right now it's all about who's the heaviest, the tallest, the most freakishly huge...But if things develop the right way soon every weightclass will be treated with the respect due to it. And a 90kg champion who doesn't want to go up the weight class won't be treated as a case of wasted potential, and a 70kg champion with a consistently successful track record will be respected just as much as superheavyweight champions

This is one of the reason I don't have motivation to train and arm wrestle anymore being 5 ft 4 weigh in at 65kg pretty muscular for a short guy there just no way in hell will I ever gona beat bigger guys, who would want to be champion at 65kg but lose to 90% of the other arm wrestler out there life is just unfair that reality as much as I like arm wrestling its just not for me I rather use that energy to do something else that I'm good at.

@@abcwarrior91 I understand your general gripe with enormous advantages granted by certain anthropometrical stats, unfortunately, those things play a massive role in how far away can you progress as an athlete not only in AW but in any sport in general That said, height alone can hardly be a decisive factor. I mean, Sasho Andreev is also 5'4' with short hands and arms, but just look at his track record. Maybe in your case it's preferable to keep bulking and strengthening the hook if you wanna compete. Of course it will be still hard to pull with 6 ft+ athletes, but it doesn't mean you won't be able to challenge them

Even more than weight, the size of a person’s frame/skeletal structure (particularly the fingers, hand, wrist, and forearm) matters immensely. Look at someone like Cobra Rhodes. Competed most of his life around 165 lb (I believe). However, because his frame is as large as a typical 198-220 lb guy, he is one of the greatest 165 lb armwrestlers of all time.

i can totaly understand why there are weight classes in armwrestling and its good we have them. But in armwrestling they only thing that truly matters is the arm and the arm only. Not the weight of the opponent nor the height of the oponent or their hand size and lenght or how much they can bench etc etc,it is only about how strong the arm is.I have arwrestle with big guys, with small guys ,long arms.short arms ,big hands ,small hands etc etc and i can say for sure that there is no stereotypical "best" arm of psysical combinations out there.every arm is different and strong and weak in some points,i remember i was armwrestle with this dude ,he was like 6 '6 with very long arms ,huge palm and fingers at around 90 kg bodyweight(skinny guy but thick),and imideately felt that i could not go anywhere once he got his grip, and i also remember armwrestle with a guy 15 cm shorter than me with shorter arm and smaller hand and like 35 kilos lighter than me and i also remember i could not go anywhere as well .So ,my point is,no matter how tall or short or how heavy you are ,the only thing that matters in arwrestle is strenght nothing else. For example, levan is not the best because he is 180 kg,he is the best in the world because he has the strongest arm ,of course i can understand the genetics and physical factors and talents of a person and yes it does give atvantages, but thats all they are,advantages...i rember levan saying that the first years of his armwrestle career he was not able to do anything in competitions,of course he was 90 kg at that time but still he had the best genetics out there and he still lost to guys who i am sure they had much worse genetics than levan,so,genetics give advantages but thats far as it goes.... believe me the only thing that matters in armwrestle is strenght, nothing else, and the reason we have weight clases is so we can eliminate these advantages to the minimum so the games can be as fair as possible so the best man can win,and i belive that is very good to the sport ,so...anyways... keep getting as strong as you possibly can and pay little atention to the "advantages " someone may have, and just focus on how you will get stronger so you can beat them!! have a good day...great video btw!!

Who else is beating opponents at the elite level that sometimes outweigh him by over 100lbs! Just like the other sports, except more technique, harder muscle groups to train correctly due to muscles involved that aren't meant to bend certain ways....constant pain, recovery, and training, and knowing the difference and GAP between an amateur, pro, and elite. Lots of people do not know this. Just facts.

It seems there is a non-linear correlation between body mass and strength as applied to strength-based sports. A 300-pound arm wrestler will never be even close to twice as strong as the strongest 150-pounder. The same applies in every other strength sport. Weightlifting records are good evidence of this trend, where the strongest pound-for-pound weightlifter are actually the lightest weight class.

Well yeah because limb lengths don't double in size among other things. Same principles apply to many things like if you double the power of an engine, it doesn't accelerate or go twice as fast because the forces get exponential to move greater and greater forces.

Yes, weight matters but it’s not like full body combat sports like boxing or MMA. TOTAL body weight is generally proportional to upper body strength but it’s not perfect. I’ve met guys that are 30 pounds (~15 kg) lighter than me but only because they have very short/small legs - from the waste up, we are the same but from the waste down my legs are where the weight advantage lies. These people would have the advantage of competing in lighter weight classes. Just like in any sport, (think basketball and height) these natural advantages are beneficial and should be taken advantage of. So yes, weight matters but it’s not always indicative of who should be stronger. This is also why weight classes in armwrestling have larger ranges compared to boxing for example
