Interestingly, the daughter isn't mentioned in the original story of King Midas and we're not really sure when she was added to the story but Nathaniel Hawthorne chose to include her in his telling if the story in "the wonder book for girls and boys" so it's possible that he came up with her. I love the fact that dispite it not being historical accurate to the antiquity, we retell the myth with the daughter cause it makes it a better story. Bonus: her name is marigold

The second part of the myth (when Midas gets donkey ears) was made into a Portuguese fairytale called "Prince With Donkey Ears". In the version that I read, a king and a queen have a son, and they invite fairies to bless him with abilities (like Sleeping Beauty). The first two fairies blessed him with good stuff, and then, the third fairy is just like "I want you to have donkey ears."

When I was small, someone told me that midas died of starvation because everything he touched turned to gold. I always wondered why he didn't ask his servants to feed him. Guess that person was wrong

Well the character in Fortnite named "Midas" from the battle pass when reaching tier 100 is based off of the real King Midas from greek mythology so not totally wrong their.

Sometime later the tree was made into a drum and as soon as it started playing, it shouted "our king has donkey's ears".

This is where Aladdin comes in the hand of Midas it was like a Greek tale but in Aladdin they referred it to a hand. In English translation it basically means to make anything into money and people usually refer that to gold. Reminded me of a scene from the movie "in the mood for love" where the main character told a story that in the old days if someone had a secret they didn't want to share they went up a mountain, found a tree, carved a hole in it, and whispered the secret into the hole. Then they covered it with mud. And leave the secret there forever.

My favorite myth is probably the Norse story of how Thor dressed up as a bride to get his hammer back.

As stories involving the ancient Greek Gods go, this is probably one of the most benign ones. No deaths, no gruesome eternal punishments, Dionysos even revived Midas' daughter. And donkey ears are probably the least cruel punishment I ever heard an ancient Greek God inflict when angered. Had it been Zeus, he'd probably have him chained to the inside of a giant salpinx which, for the rest of eternity, would be played every day for hours by the least musically talented giant Zeus could muster.

I found a loophole Midas couldn’t eat.. But just use a fork, the fork would turn gold and you can eat from it because the fork dosent have the powers that you would.
