Demeter just wanted her daughter back. The myth served as a symbol of hope to women in ancient greece especially to mothers who's daughters were married off at the young age of 12-15. If ypur child was taken wouldn't you try everything in your power to get them back?

Seems evil at first until you realize the Hades is one of the few gods that isn't a serial rapist.

I have heard two different stories: Persephone originally wanted the god of love to shoot his arrows at her and Zeus heard about her wish, the arrow ended up hitting Hades in the underworld, Hades because of the arrow; fell in love with persephone and kidnapped her and she started to fall in love with him overtime. As a result his cold and ugly heart began to melt because of her. Almost like a Beauty and the Beast story. I have also heard it was half and half custody of Persephone but some of the stories are just four months of the year. 😇😈. However the story truly goes i love this story.

I read somewhere that when people started placing flowers on graves, that this was actually an offering to Persephone so that she would be kind to their deceased ones in the underworld

I prefer the story that Hades wanted love advice for Persephone to fall in love with him. Zeus said that if Hades kidnaps her, he would get his wish. Never trust Zeus with love. Go to Aphrodisiac next time, kids. EDIT: APHRODITE NOT APHRODISIAC

Let's see, things you missed/got wrong, 1) Demeter kept Persephone locked up, away from any form of interaction, and was about to send her to an isolated island so that no one could touch her. 2) Before Persephone went to the underworld, she was forced to dress and act like a child, even when she was an adult, because of how Demeter treated her. 3) Hades got permission to marry Persephone before he took her, which means it wasn't kidnapping, as that was the proper way to obtain one's hand in marriage (so no, Zeus wasn't angry about Hades taking Persephone, he was more pissed that Demeter couldn't get over it). 4) Persephone quickly began to love the underworld and Hades, as it was the only place she was able to act as she pleased, to where she didn't want to leave. 5) She wasn't tricked into eating the pomegranet, she knew what it would do, but was so hungry, she did it anyway. 6) She actually loved Hades, as he treated her as his equal, and did anything she asked of him. 7) She's responsible for many terrible punishments befallen unto mortals. 8) Hades wasn't miserable, he did his job well and didn't complain about it.

Demeter didnt do any of that to Persephone and there are no scources stating so. Persephone didn't want to be in the underworld and she didn't eat the seeds willingly

@@parentalfigure2511 To be fair, all I read was that Hades pressed her to eat the seeds and so she did. I couldn't find anything in the Hymn to Demeter about her being afraid he'd hurt her or anything. She likely ate them because she wanted to be an obedient wife or she loved him. In the Mythology, Persephone has never been characterized as someone that hated Hades or feared abuse from him. The only scary thing he did to her was the abduction, which was legit scary but Hades was only following the law. It was legally an arranged marriage. Women were unfortunately property. Still, once they were married, Hades didn't treat Persephone like property anymore.

It's where Persephone explicitly tells her mother, what happened to her. Even Hermes commented how unhappy she looked in the underworld. Its never stated in mythology that she loved or hated Hades (that can be debated because love is weird like that) but it is stated that she didn't stay willingly.

@@MsAngelique Also, I never stated here that she feared abuse from him. You do have valid points, Hades was just following the law. Nobody in the myth did anything wrong. But the fact is, People villainize Demeter to further romanticize the abduction of Persephone. Even to the point where they'd make up stuff for Demeter to seem worse

My mum told me this story Demeter was the goddess of nature, she had a daughyer called (forgot name lel) Once while picking up flowers she fell trough a hole made by hades because who wanted to be a queen of the underworld? Ye nobody. Not knowing she ate a grape and where locked there forever Demeter told zeus about it and said "U can go 6 months here and 6 months to your daughter in the underworld Everytime she goes to the underworld to visit her daughter, the real world is without demeter so it becomes winter and fall If she comes back, the plants start to grow (spring ,summer) and thats how my mum told me :P

I think it’s a great idea to let Persephone be wife of Hades as the Queen of the Underworld. Because I want to know and see the truth about the three immortal children of Hades and Persephone, there are two daughters Macaria and Melinoe, and one son Zagreus.

They technically didn't this one. They could have done better to mention how Persophone and Hades have one of the strongest relationships in all of Greek Mythology. And Hades isn't a total jerk like our Christian influenced world wants you to believe.

@@peelslowly28 There was no indication of a "strong" relationship between Hades & her in the original mythos. They only mentioned "a relationship" between them. You got that from the whole "bad guy" romanticization pop culture influence of today.

@@istanknowledgereason1561 Most loyal couple in the mythos. Both will hurt intruders against them. Wife has equal power and authority. Hades is quoted as demanding Persephone be worshipped and respected. In Greek Mythology terms this is a stupidly peaceful and happy couple. Persephone is spoiled rotten. She's actually considered to be Hades equal, or at least once she was married to him she was. These people believed women were generally property so ... that's amazing.
