Every needlewoman has a bunch of different devices in her arsenal. All this to make the sewing process as convenient and enjoyable as possible.
These are scissors, rulers, paws, pins, tweezers, crayons, a plate for passing thick seams, cutting mats, self-disappearing markers and much more. This is not a complete list.
This list is growing every time. Sometimes you have to practice to understand how to use a particular accessory.
I used to use soap remnants for cutting, until I tried the special Panda chalk. This is heaven and earth. Or sharp, high-quality scissors that do not become dull, and it seems that they are already cutting without touching the fabric; they cannot be compared with ordinary ones.
A seam ripper is one of the indispensable devices in sewing. This tool is needed to rip out machine stitches. Consists of two tips.
At the same time, all my life I used a long sharp tip, I adapted as it should, although how many times the tissue was damaged by a careless movement, and I thought about a short one with a red ball in order not to get hurt. Although a slight degree of uncertainty that this was not so always remained.
Both tips have a sharp blade. But in fact, it is the short blade with the red ball that rips the seam. And the ball protects the fabric from cuts. I’ve been sewing for a long time and now I have such a discovery!
How to use a steamer correctly:
1) At the beginning of the stitching, from the wrong side, pry the long end of the stitching thread and cut it, using your hands to push the seam apart.
2) Turn the fabric right side out. Position the seam ripper so that the red dot blade is underneath the stitching between the two layers of fabric. Long tip on the outside over the fabric.
3) After straightening the seam, move the seam ripper forward. It will go along the seam like clockwork.
4) Another discovery: the cut threads gathered on a small blade into a bundle.
The myth that the side with the ball is used to avoid pricking your finger has been dispelled once and for all. As they say, live and learn.
