The Buried Secrets Of Jersey's Oldest Castle | Time Team

Tony Robinson heads to Jersey to investigate the origins of Mont Orgueil Castle. Today's castle is a Tudor structure built on earlier foundations, and it's that early castle, built by King John, that the Team are looking for.

Time Team was an amazing show! Name a programme now that is educational, funny, accessable to all, and leaves viewers feeling that even though they had only watched, they had been a part of solving a mystery. There are none! Time Team was incredible and the fact it is no longer on our screens is a tragedy

First preview of the new Time Team episode is visible on the Time Team Classics KZread channel. Unfortunately, Tony didn't want to present the show anymore, so there are two new hosts. But there are still enough familiar faces, only a bit older and with a lot more grey hair. And Mick Aston is honoured by calling the team bus "the Mickmobile".

Speaking of the fancy 3D scanner: I watched a series (I wish I could remember the name), showing old European cities (lol - they're all old. I ive in Australia). Just thinking about other types of records that have been lost, it's not really surprising that they were too, especially given that the site was constantly being attacked, renovated, and again and again in a cycle. Portions of the castle might not have existed long enough for significant records to be made of them! This also doesn't speak to the difficulty in preserving any such records across time, both from neglect and decay as well as fire.

There's a reason it's been in use for five thousand years. Tunnelling through granite sucks.

When I see these showa I wonder about my ancestors possible involvement. My English ancestor began coming to the colonies in 1640s with Gov. Williams. I don't know their names other than that my ancestors included the Bacons, Vinings, Adams, Sir William Gooch, and Richardsons among others. I know 1 side of the family did have a castle which wasdestroyed by fire. My vision is poor, but I do have a huge volime of family history which could help. You can see how your studies of destroyed castles would pique my interest

Also the ending makes zero sense.... with a cannon at 200yds they would be able to hit each other because they woild both have a range of atleast 200ys the only difference is the pwople in the "castle" would have protection while the people on the hill would have absolutely zero protection at all and would be standing in the wide open
