The Mysteries Behind 009 Sound System

Ойын-сауық

Dreamscape by 009 Soundsystem was a highly popular song used online in the late 2000's to early 2010's. In this video, I talk about the history of the track, who's behind it, and some mysteries that I stumbled accross along the way.

To confirm your suspicion, if you drop the URL for the 2007 Tranceluv Dreamscape video into the Wayback Machine, you can see that in 2007 & 2008, the title read "Trance - Ravers Fantasy". Sure enough, when looking up a song labeled "Tune Up - Ravers Fantasy", you get a song that's around 3:30 long.

I'm a rave music nerd and this theory makes more sense after what you said. "Raver's Fantasy" was a popular track and if "Tranceluv" liked trance music, he would've 100% known about that song. Kind of didn't want to believe it at first because it was very common for DJs to hold onto tracks long before an official release. It was also common to hear unreleased tracks in CD mixes or tapes ahead of their release, but they would rarely play the full track.

John 3:16-21 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. Mark 1.15 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Hebrews 11:6 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Jesus

Oh man. I went down this rabbit hole last year, trying to investigate 009 Sound System. I found it all to be much more... ephemeral than I expected. There was so little info to find. The info you could find was, at best, "odd". Like, remarkably odd. Even spiritual. Perhaps most intriguing of all was how it felt like no else cared. I mean, yeah, we all appreciate it for its time on KZread. But, it seems like it faded into an almost unbelievable obscurity. By the way, could these songs have been any more fitting for that era? The XP, Vista, and Windows 7 era, with the not-dead-yet 2000s "clean" aesthetic all fit so perfectly with the seemingly timeless "Dreamscape" (and other 009 songs). For a moment, it just all felt so right.

I would put it on a transitional era, where Windows Vista was out by a few years and Windows 7 was barely out in very late 2009 but most PCs still ran Windows XP. Same with the internet, from the decentralized ways to communicate through forums and websites that still existed then to the age of social media and mobile which was rapidly growing.

I'm still bummed that I can't get any of the 009 Sound System albums on CD. I've been using KZread since late 2009, and this music really resonates with me. I even used some of their songs through Audioswap for my KZread videos, mainly for my Futurama pastel drawings. The Audioswap library allowed users to see the most popular songs, and 009 Sound System always topped the list. For me, their music is a reminder of a simpler time, coinciding with technology, the old Apple (the aesthetic of Mac OS X Leopard), Frutiger Aero, the old KZread, and the early 2000s.

I remember that around 7-ish years ago that I would use 009 Sound System songs as my way to learn how to edit music in videos, where I found more music under Alexander's name such as my personal favorites; "Maximalists". I also found out then that Alexander, along with another singer named Madelin Lane were both part of another music project named "Circ" in which they were an active duo from 2000-2003. However they only released one album called "Love Electric", and the only reason why I remember the album (despite how obscure it is) is not only are the songs themselves are really cool, sweet and nostalgic sounding, but one of the music videos has to do with 9/11. Make of this what you will

I will forever remember this one video where someone made a stunt montage of jumping off Mount Chilliad with different vehicles in GTA San Andreas, for the full length of Dreamscape. 2007-2011 KZread was something else. You really just had to be there. This is the first video I've seen from you. For some reason the algorithm decided that I should see an hour old upload from a channel I've never watched, but hey, they won the gamble. Context from someone who has an elephant memory and has had this KZread account since January 1st, 2008: After a certain point of everyone using their favorite song in their video, KZread told everyone to stoppit because they continued to receive copyright notices from music distributors. Nobody stopped, so the big KZread dogs kinda went and did it automatically? I remember waking up one morning in the 5th grade and half of my uploads were muted due to copyright issues, but, I also had the option to replace the entire audio track with a song from their music library. The first song was Dreamscape, literally because it began with "009", but what's even more is that KZread made this an automated process at some point down the line, so a lot of uploads from back then just had Dreamscape in the background WITHOUT any user input. I personally just took down everything because I was approaching my preteens and started to become self-conscious about everything I did. But in terms of KZread and Dreamscape? There was quite literally a point where one out of every three videos had been audioswapped due to the automatic changes.

Great video - Not sure what I think of this Alexander guy but dreamscape will always be iconic. seeing that audioswap editor and the rest of the old youtube layout brought back a ton of memories. If I may, I'd like to put out a feeler for an experience I had with one of the youtube video editors (honestly i should post to reddit): My friend and I were editing a video in it ~2010?, one where we responded to a troll (Iol), probably to add music and either cut some clips out or even add music to it, and we got a message on the screen. It read something along the lines of "Close your eyes, bash your head into the keyboard, and scream." It scared my friend and I so badly as we were kids and it was 12am. Has anyone else ever seen that message? I know the popup said it was from KZread, possible it was a virus of some kind that hijacked the browser a bit, but that was all it was - clicking dismissed it. I've been curious about this for years with no results online.

Been a trance fanatic since I was in preschool. I loved your dive into the origins of this song and shed light on the people surrounding it. Despite being KZread copyright friendly music from long ago, the album itself still inspired a lot of modern electronic/trance artists, and I am glad you made a video on it.

okay i have been listing to 009 sound system for a while its own by track one recordings its goes from dreamscape to many others singers on their youtube channel. there are some song that have not been upload but you can still find it in some old videos from 2015 and early to late 2000s and 2010s. While track one recordings has not upload anything for a whole decades their still whole lots of music like for example revolution on the dance floor is my fav.

Let me add some context, as i got paid by 009 sound system to replace the audio on an old "viral" minecraft video i uploaded in 2009 (Epic minecraft). First i had uploaded the video with some keygen music (like Unreal Superhero 3), and since it was one of the first minecraft videos at that time + the title it got 1 million views. (which was a lot in 2009) + it got a lot of likes which i guess boosted the popularity. Anyway on youtube, i got a message from 009 sound systems, where they offered me 50 euros if i swapped out the audio on the video, with one if their songs. (free choice). I was like 13 years old at the time and wrote "nah man give me 100 euros" and they just said yes. Then i swapped the music, got the money, and bought a razer headset (Razer Carcharias). Also after swapping the music, the video got a lot of dislikes and people saying stuff like "what's up with the shitty music" etc. (It also doesn't help that the video is really bad). I googled a bit, and it seems like they were a christian group or something like that? I guess someone thought it was worth spending some money on spreading the word of jesus through music online, i don't know man. They've probably spent money on worse campaigns. Anyway it automatically got changed to another copyright free song some years ago, so it's no longer there. TLDR: they paid people to use their songs, and they're christian so probably had money from a campaign to spread the word of jesus.

Ahh yes, the forgotten classic anthem of "Born To Be Wasted." I personally didn't mind Dreamscape as it was one of the first I heard too. But at the same time AMVs were around and thus many 1990s bubblegum pop also were my favorites back in the day. Needless to say it made me look up a ton of bubblegum dance in the mid to late 2000s and other videos as well. But 009 Sound System will always be my hidden favorite of all time, along with "Time & Space", "Powerstation", and many other songs from it. And yes, I have seen the Powerstation Columbine music video back in 2011. But I will never forget the day I listened to "Born To Be Wasted" and "Dreamscape" as the unofficial anthem of KZread.

2006-2009 KZread was peak. really 06-08, the designs were being changed a lot in 2009 and everyone had this crazy idea that Hulu was going to take over lol. 06-08 was definitely the best in terms of the websites design and content. We were all just teens/young adults, now it's full of literal children. Channel designs were peak, you could make video responses, PM people, make bulletins, chatrooms where people can play any video. Man, I miss it so much. You just had to be there to know how great it was. By 2010 KZread, aside from releasing the upload time limit at the end of the year was not the same place I'd known 2 years prior. I didn't have the limit originally, but then I changed my channel type to "guru" because I was like 13 and thought it sounded cool. Not long after Google bought KZread, so if I'd stayed as director, I would've never had the upload limit in the first place. Still, a 10-11 minute limit (temporarily 15 minutes in October 2007) did sort of help you get more views in general.
