The Myantennas.com 8010P End-Fed Antenna, Part 1/2.

Ғылым және технология

Testing the Myantennas.com 8010P, which should be resonant on the 80/40/30/20/17/15/12/10m bands. The antenna is 130ft long, 39.6m. It is reasonably priced and well built, so if it works on all those bands will be a keeper. What I did for my mast (have the same one) is to cut a small piece of cordage, maybe 4 inches and put the cut ends into the opening of the tip with a small amount of epoxy. Now when I remove the cap, I have a small loop to grab and pull it out. That's a nice key you have there. I'm taking the CW Academy level 1 course now, so I'll be operating in CW soon!

    I have one of these and it works well! My antenna is up 20 ft and in a 3 sided rectangle. Higest SWR at the ends of any band is 4:1 I shortened mine by 12 inches to center the best SWR near the middle of the bands. I do have mine grounded by a long ground rod at the base Seems to have no effect one way or the other. Great antenna, work lots of DX with it. I only contest rarely with my club mates, but never at home, other interests in radio too! Nice presentation

    I have used this antenna exclusively on HF for over a year now. It is hung in an inverted-vee with both ends at about 30 feet and the apex at about 50 feet. I operate at 100 watts SSB and 25-50 watts FT8. At first, it would not tune on 17 meters. After adding 5 ferrite beads on the feed line it tunes fine on all bands from 80 to 10 meters (I have not operated on 60 meters). Performance is remarkable on all bands. Contacts often comment that they can't believe I am not running high power and a beam. Highly recommended. AD8DT

    I use this same antenna plus two others. The problem with using multiple HF antenna’s is that you run the issue of getting RF in the shack from the transmitting antenna going into the other antenna. When I use my other antenna, I unhook my EF because I have been told that my signal going out, when all three antenna’s were connected, was distorted with RF interference. I also found that the EF is very positional, meaning that you really need to get the distal end off the ground at least 30 to 40 feet or you’ll have ground loss issues. It is true that you do not need a tuner, which is a good thing. The EF will be noisier on some bands, particularly 80, at least in my shack. There are always trade-offs on EF antenna’s, they are not perfect, but they are cost effective and often work great most of the time.

  • @RadioPrepper

    @RadioPrepper

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hello. I have not had too much ground losses issues, even using a 134ft HWEF six feet from the ground, but of course losses are there, just like a dipole. I see no reason why they would be noisier other than people using them often vertically.

    I have the 8010P as my base antenna and it works very well at only about 30 feet high and slopes one side to 15 feet and the feed point down to 10 feet. I often wondered if radials would improve it since this version requires no radials or ground at the box side like the regular 8010. I guess the coax shield is the counterpoise.

    It amazes me how many hams don't know wtf an antenna tuner actually does, it just fools your transceiver into seeing a 2:1 or lower match and absorbs the reflected power. Most Extras don't even know this fact. Not surprising since in the US you just memorize the test and you're an Extra.

    Great video and just what I have been looking at myself, some others that caught my eye too, all simular multiband end feds ultimax & vibroplex the other names. With the Ultimax there is a choice of 2, 1 at 66ft and 1 at 24ft in length. Now 24ft I can mount anywhere and would suit my set up fine, although homebase I would like to venture, so taking it down wouldn't be a problem, where 66ft is longer than my garden, would need a dog leg or such. So ultimax 100 is 3/54mhz and will work just as good as the 66ft 1 with more wire, what am I missing here please, using a vertical multiband atm, works but I know a wire/longline would work better. Thanks for any advice, interested in 7,10,14,21,28mhz

  • @RadioPrepper

    @RadioPrepper

    2 жыл бұрын

    But 24ft is not a half-wave so probably a 9:1 to use with a tuner, not a 49:1 or 64:1. You will not get the same performance, probably not very good on 40m and near useless on 80m with a 24ft wire.

    MFJ makes a knock off version of these antennas including a QRP End-Fed version, MFJ-1982LP. Also if you search EBAY using "qrp end antenna", you will find QRP multiband end-fed offerings.

    Contests are a waste of bandwidth, that being said, sometimes they are the only way to make a contact when everybody is listening but not transmitting. I enjoyed your video Gil, but that antenna is not for me, its too big and heavy.

    A quick search of the qrz forums will give a great example of why we should never support that company. The owner of myantennas is a hater who attacks other companies/operators to promote his own. The box is made in Germany not what's inside!

    Julian, I have apologized for my "Technical outburst" about antenna you promoted on QRZ.com and you accepted the apology. Now, you are calling me a hater and doing exactly the same and even worse of what you accused me of. I never said that people should not buy or use the antenna you have promoted, I simply gave my technical assessment of mediocre antenna design which I as professional antenna designer have right to do regardless of your biased opinion. I am sorry that your ego was so bruised that you can't let go and have to use this channel to propagate malicious attempts to paint me personally as an unscrupulous hater of " other antenna companies". I still think that you are wonderful videographer but very limited in knowledge about antenna and RF technology. Best 73 Danny E73M aka N4EXA an owner of Myantennas.com

    Daniel Horvat The wonderful thing about QRZ is you can't delete your comments! Had you attacked Chameleon Antenna professionally, you would not have heard a peep from me. Instead you chose to attack me on a personal level. It's right there for the world to see, and qrz.com won't delete it. You can hate all you like on other companies, just don't add the personal attacks, and nobody will care.

    Well, how do you call this personal attack you made in form of this statement:"The owner of myantennas is a hater who attacks other companies/operators to promote his own."? So, I also would like to point out that you have to stop slander and unprovoked personal atack as you made it in the post above. Sorry, but obviously you are not one who can judge me and my character... Take a look in the mirror, do you see "hater" too or peace loving and forgiving angel without flaws whose opinion has to be forced on other people youtube channel... So, enough of this pissing contest, I do not hate you or wish you ill, just want to show you that people make mistakes just like you made the hateful post above. I am sorry again, for everything you found offending in our QRZ.com exchange. I hope you will find some place in your heart to learn to forgive just like I learned to forgive to so many of my enemies of which some become my dear friends despite the fact that they were trying to kill me during the Bosnian war 1992-1995. Julian, life is too short to hold the grudge over trivial things like forum exchanges... Danny E73M

    OH8STN don't take the bait! This guy is a keyboard Commando making emotional replies. I took a screenshot of his reply before he edited it for politeness. Let me know if I should email that to you. I also read his comments on qrz. Sorry you have to take abuse from this guy. I hope it doesn't put you off from making videos. I agree, he's a hater, or perhaps he just stopped eating his pills. I found Gil through you Julian, both of you are doing an amazing job.
