According to the most authentic opinion, it is fard, but all of the scholars are in agreement that it is at least highly recommended. What appears to be correct is that it is mandatory, & Allah knows best

Sheikh Zoud, if the Khimar falls directly onto the face then women wont be able to see. So the second opinion of dropping the khimar on the chest to cover the chest only makes more sense. The ayah directly says cover the chest, not the face

Tafsir of Quran is important because it explains how the messenger & the companions & the 3 golden generations understood the Quran. He mentioned names like ibn Abbas because he understood the Quran as well as or better than anyone other than the Messenger. We must take the deen upon the understanding of the 3 golden generations and not upon what we think and what we feel. May Allah forgive us and grant us acceptance of that which is correct.

If you have children & they always tell you they love you but they are disobedient to you and they do not do the things that are halal and pleasing to you, would you believe them? Likewise, if we truly love Allah, we would do that which pleases Him & abstain from what displeases Him. If you are struggling, then admit that & work on it. But be very careful to deny the mandate of Hijab. Denying the mandate of something that is undoubtedly understood to be obligatory is kufr. I am not saying you are a kafir, I am saying that is the general ruling in Islam. May ALlah protect us and make us firm upon His obedience

@@SeantheDon You could not be more right. This answer of yours was an excellent example! I've been trying to explain this to some people with no success, they just can't understand. Allah threw Iblees from Jannah only for disobeying him... Allah said he became a kafir after disobeying Him :( I mean that scares ME a lot... We are here to prove Allah that we are worthy of His rewards and mercy. You cant love someone only by words, you need actions too.
