“7empest” is great. Just a long Tool Jan with style throwback to Undertow (Which Preston hasn’t explored) definitely the most aggressive since Hooker with a Penis. I do feel Preston is more Ambient and Small detail oriented, with great appreciation for Vocals and Lyrics. In which case most of the other songs on this album might appeal to him much more. Not that this is a bad choice. We’ll watch all the reactions from FI. Clearly.

@@PoliticallyAffiliated I did! Don't assume things my guy. Maynard has surely progressed with Puscifer, but I wasn't expecting this much mayhem out of Danny, Adam and Justin. That timing on these songs is something never heard. TOOL went above and beyond with this album. In honesty, when I heard Fear Inoculum, I felt like the were going toward more of a Lateralus sound but it's actually a perfect mix of all their different styles throughout the bands history. It's the perfect album, tied all their music together.

He also studied under some percussion masters in the Middle East and India at one point in his life. Along with his jazz background, he has said they are very influential to his sound and style. You can feel it in his tom work over the entire course of his career. Even with all the weird meters and changes, he gives that tribal beat with the toms all the time. That wakes up something primal in everyone when they hear it.

Pneuma (πνεῦμα) is an ancient Greek word for "breath", and in a religious context for "spirit" or "soul". ... In classical philosophy, it is distinguishable from psyche (ψυχή), which originally meant "breath of life", but is regularly translated as "spirit" or most often "soul".- Wikipedia

Pneuma meant "wind" originally, but was later used by Christians to describe the Holy "Spirit". Jesus breathed (pneuma) the Holy Spirit upon his disciples in John's Gospel. So, since God "breathed" life into humanity and Jesus into his believers, the idea is that there is a unity between those things whom God created.

I applaud you on highlighting the lyrics, but that being said, I can never get over how you NEVER seem moved or impressed by Danny's insane drum fills!!! I was waiting for some reaction to the drumming, making some comment about it, but it didn't come. I guess drums don't speak to you, even from the best drummer in the world, doing things in this song and on this album, that NO ONE else does. This new album is all about Danny having the limelight and shining bright!

There’s just a deep, deep satisfaction listening to this song and the entire album. Tool’s music isn’t for everyone but the sheer technical brilliance, the creative maelstrom of sounds that the band puts out elevates them to a unique place in music. This music is highly challenging but at the same time joyfully accessible. There’s few Prog bands and especially Prog Metal bands that command such acclaim and attention as Tool. Let’s hope they’ve got another record in them.
