"The Music Of The Night" from Phantom Of The Opera - solo piano (HD)

Музыка

watch in HD for best audio! the story so far: the Phantom seduces Christine in his lair, urging her not to use her eyes to see, but to believe her other senses instead. "Music Of The Night" is a sensuous solo for the tenor, but on the piano the melody does not carry as well due to the natural decay of the notes; hence many fermatas have to be shortened and the pace quickened up ever so slightly.
i play directly from the official Piano/vocal songbook arrangement by Roger Day; his arrangement simplifies the left hand so much that it is simply holding whole and half notes. still, i suppose this is what a beginner/intermediate player can do with the limited score. I hope you enjoy!

all rights to the song belong to The Really Useful Group and the composer, etc etc. I'm just playing piano for fun.

Wishing my grandfather is somehow here again who died a year and a half ago. Every night before I went to sleep, I sang and played to him songs from this musical, including The Music of the Night(btw, I'm singer and piano player). He was very, very happy then because he adored this musical, even he didn't know a word from this musical because he had never learned English, but he was touched by the music (and by the words after I translated to him into our mother tongue-Croatian)After he died, I kept singing and playing it and I hope he can hear me, wherever he is now. Cograts for your wonderful performanse. Greetings from Croatia!

when i first started playing piano, my grandma prompted me to learn this song. i was so young, weak in my skills, and the piece was much more difficult than anything else i had played before. but i took up the challenge regardless. i worked tirelessly on the chords, rhythms, i practiced so much to the point where i had it memorized. it may have taken me months, years, but its my pride and joy. but it didnt matter. by the time i had it mastered, my grandma had already passed away, and she never got to play it for her. since then, this song is a tribute to her. she’s listening to me from in the stars as i try to let her hear me, i know, i know. i’ll continue to play for everyone and anyone, striving to reach all i can with my music - just never my grammy, not anymore.

Night time sharpens, heightens each sensation Darkness stirs and wakes imagination Silently the senses abandon their defenses Slowly, gently night unfurls its splendor Grasp it, sense it tremulous and tender Turn your face away from the garish light of day Turn your thoughts away from cold, unfeeling light And listen to the music of the night Close your eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams Purge your thoughts of the life you knew before Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar And you'll live as you've never lived before Softly, deftly music shall caress you Hear it, feel it secretly possess you Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind In this darkness that you know you cannot fight The darkness of the music of the night Let your mind start a journey through a strange new world Leave all thoughts of the life you knew before Let your soul take you where you long to be Only then can you belong to me Floating, falling sweet intoxication Touch me, trust me, savor each sensation Let the dream begin, let your darker side give in To the power of the music that I write The power of the music of the night You alone can make my song take flight Help me make the music of the night

Night time sharpens, heightens each sensation Darkness wakes and stirs imagination Silently, the senses abandon their defenses Helpless to resist the notes I write For I compose the music of the night Slowly, gently, night unfurls its splendor Grasp it, sense it, tremulous and tender Hearing is believing, music is deceiving Hard as lightening, soft as candlelight Dare you trust the music of the night? Close your eyes for your eyes will only tell the truth And the truth isn't what you want to see In the dark it is easy to pretend That the truth is what it ought to be Softly, deftly, music shall caress you Hear it, feel it secretly possess you Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind In this darkness which you know you cannot fight The darkness of the music of the night Close your eyes Start a journey to a strange new world Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before Close your eyes and let music set you free Only then can you belong to me Floating, falling, sweet intoxication Touch me, trust me, savor each sensation Let the dream begin, let your darker side give in To the power of the music that I write The power of the music of the night You alone can make my song take flight Help me make the music of the night

thank you! I was taught by an ex-Yamaha teacher when I was younger, taking ABRSM exams up to grade 8. But my greatest improvement came when I had the serendipitous fortune to study with the late Mr Peter Cooper, a New Zealand pianist who stayed in Singapore for a while. I guess my advice is to always listen to yourself when you play, and get to know how to vary your sound with different striking velocities, finger strength, arm strength, etc.

This is really good, but I wish you'd been more fluid with the tempo to make the song come alive. The playing is wonderful, but it lacks emotion.

I agree that really the song should be moving on more steadily and progressively. Personally I think that this is beautiful as more of a solo-piano interpretation but I see where you're coming from
