The Mulemena Boys - A Tribute To The Late Emmanuel Mulemena [1984 Full Album]
Музыка
Mulemena was one of Zambia's most popular musicians in the '70s, due in part to the fact that he sang in three languages -- Kaonde, Bemba and Nyanja. He was also one of the very first African musicians to use a drum machine, and he is renowned for modernizing the Kaonde "machancha" beat. Mulemena's premature death was rumored to be of AIDS, making him one of the early casualties in an epidemic that has decimated Zambia's population.

I am from Mzimba, Malawi and I am now 47 years of age. This Mulemena boys album makes me shed tears. I was born in Blantyre and our father used to listen to this Mulemena boys album every weekend and we used to enjoy it very much seeing our dad dance in our presence. And that was in 1984. But little did I know that 10 years down the line one of the songs, titled 'a malume sure simunali kundifuna' literally meaning,'uncle you never liked me' was going to directly reflect on what I was going to pass through in life. I was to start a private day scoring Secondary school in the other part of the country in a city called Mzuzu because it was one of the best in the country and my mum quickly recommended that I stay at the home of her direct cousin who by our culture was my uncle. And when she had talked with her cousin, our uncle I was despatched to stay with him. I arrived at 7pm and night had almost fallen and I was sitting at the living room with my bag waiting for my uncle coming from work. However, I could sense from the attitude of his wife that I was an unwelcome guest. And when uncle showed up he similarly expressed the same feelings. After dinner I was picked so I could be showed my bedroom aaash, this was the beginning of misery I had never imagined, it was was the auntie his wife who shouted and stopped us from getting into their son's bedroom, in short I ended up being shown in a kitchen for the quarters outside of the main house and had no door. It was a servant quarters' kitchen and he used firewood and the walls and the roof of the whole kitchen was covered with carbon from smoke of fire. To cut long story short, another 10 years down the line I had gone through the University and was working for an International Organisation traversing the whole world. Tables had now been turned down, The same Uncle and his wife phoned me pleading with me that I should help find employment for their sons and daughters. Please, people help me to cry out, because this a malume simunali kundifuna song makes me me breakdown.

I guess all the 3 guys are gone now. Chibangu was first, then Gift, I'm not really sure of the third gentleman who was the lead guitarist.

I remember my late uncle Jackson Muyutu he used to listen to this music, continue rest in peace uncle, shi Muzala
I had a privilege to watch these guys performing live at the Southern Provincial Agricultural and Commercial Show in 1985, in Monze. I was young, and their music was trending. It was a 3 member band. Chibangu vocalist/rhythm guitar, Gift vocalist/bass guitar, and Shiba lead guitarist and was controlling pre-recorded instrument/drums, one of the few of it's kind by that time.

This is arguably the best Kalindula album ever produced in Zambia. Its rare in any genre of music across the globe to find an album in which every track is a classic. May the coming generations never forget this timeless music!

Gone but their music still lives
I lived in Lundazi in the mid-'80s, this album was played continuously in the chibuku bar of the police compound nearby, they played the record until you could here the other side through it, I went there a few times for a tub, the record was played on the suitcase record player at full volume, if the power was off I might hear a vimbusa being performed outside the boma, oh man...😪
Real music 🎶 🎵
Memories ignited. Good old music
REST IN PEACE 16/06/22 still listening nice songs
