There were so many more clips that I wanted to include in this episode, but I had to cut or shorten a lot of them because I kept getting copyright claims on the video. I guess Disney doesn't want free promotion for an almost thirty year old movie? R.I.P. to not only Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara who played the Buskins - but also Joseph Wayne Miller who played "Salami Sam". *Trivia tidbits I left out of the video, but movie nerds will love:* • The movie that Adam Sandler and Chris Farley did instead of "Fat Camp" was "Billy Madison", which released one week before "Heavyweights" • Ben Stiller is married to Christine Taylor, who starred in "The Brady Bunch Movie" which released on the same day as "Heavyweights" (but they didn't meet until 2000) • Jon Favreau was up for the role of Camp Hope counselor Pat Finley, but he lost a bunch of weight before filming began (he offered to gain it back for the role but Judd Apatow and Steven Brill didn't want to put him through that) • Actor-Director Peter Berg appears in the movie as the chef who says "Sorry about your little friend Josh..." • Aaron Schwartz (Gerry Garner) broke his arm during the food fight night party scene, so a double was put in his place during that scene and he had to keep his arm out of view for the scenes that still needed to be filmed • A deleted scene reveals that Gerry originally had an older brother, who punches his arm as he's walking up to his house (which is why he's rubbing his arm in pain when he first walks through the door) • While the rest of the cast was filming the dance scene, Shaun Weiss stole a golf cart and flipped it over

yo buddy, did you know the Atomic situp is the inspiration for that scene in this movie? I bet it was affected by "notes" or just tasteful way to tone it down for kids. The "atomic situp" involves people holding the towel down over the eyes while one attempts to do a situp, creating tension that the master must overcome, they then release the towel and fling the master's face into the asscrack of the hairiest kid in camp. Did you catch that? This movie was DARK fr haha. I like when they just talk straight up about pushing Tony off the cliff. Best kids movie ever!

This movie was extremely impactful to me as a kid. I was 7 when it came out, and I vividly remember multiple things while watching this. I had a huge crush on Leah Lail, especially. Her, Amy Jo Johnson, and Alicia Silverstone were all over my room. I was the biggest kid in my school when this was around, so it really meant something that there's a movie for us overweight as well. Especially during a time the majority of children weren't obese, and back when it was constantly shamed for being so. Thank you for making this clip.
I think heavyweights perfectly balances the idea of self acceptance, while still saying that self improvement is never wrong. After they defeat Ben Stiller, they don't just say "no more bad guy, be fat forever" instead they still show them learning more beginner exercises and learning to make foods better for their health.

Yeah I agree. Forcing 50 fat kids to do punitive exercise and eat lettuce isn't effective. It's now seen as a punishment for being fat. When you make it fun then kids will be more inclined to be motivated. I like how in the end they weren't sedentary. Their goal was just about them moving their body and with baby steps they'll develop those healthy habits.

One of my favorite moments from this movie is during the raid of the chipmunk bunk, Tony tries to convince everyone he's not that bad a guy. He asks Roy to give him a hug, only to use it as an opportunity to frisk him and find a pez dispenser in his sock. "Looks like my man is packin!" My favorite PG kids movie. Tony Perkis is the greatest comedic villain of all time and I hate that nobody really acknowledges how great this movie is. Also, Stiller repurposes bits. Obviously for Dodgeball, but also in Starsky and Hutch. His character's "alias" that he creates later in the film is "Maury Finkel of Finkel Lighting Fixtures" is just Tony Perkis Sr, the lighting fixture king of the midwest.

One scene I remember was when the kids pretended to want to exercise and get skinny. They were lying to Ben Stiller's character and wanted to pull a prank on him. The thing is, when Ben Stiller's character heard the kids wanted to lose weight, he was actually very supportive and wanted to help them out; even going so far as to show them how to properly do sit ups. That scene showed that Ben Stiller was actually a decent guy who deep down probably just wanted kids to lead a healthier lifestyle.

I wish Disney made more of these. Kids don't need their hands held through this sort of subject matter, we get the jokes and it works.
I loved this movie as a kid and till this day my favorite line that lives rent free in my head is the Tony Perkins jogging scene, "come here you devil log!"
Bro this was an amazing video. Loved this movie since the first time I watched it. It’s always a classic and can watch this anytime that it’s on. And yo very interesting theory at the end, when you think about it those two characters are very similar and I think you may be onto something with that theory. Great video man

Thank you dude 🙏🏻
My sister and I loved this movie, always looked forward to seeing it on the Disney Channel because it felt so different from normal Disney Channel Original movies. Also it was so hilarious to see Ben Stiller basically play the same guy twice, in this movie and Dodgeball.
Love this film! I got it on VHS back in the day. I bought it as a previously viewed video from a rental place. After my first time seeing it, it quickly became an instant classic and a regular movie i’ve revisited many times over the years. So many quotable lines and inside jokes with my buddies back then.
I saw this randomly one day on tv in the early afternoon and it was amazing.
This pulled memories I totally forgot about. Also reminded me of Bug Juice! Great video
I remember seeing Dodgeball in high school and having the suspicion that Dwight and tony were the same dude. Like you said, I remember seeing this movie on TV as a kid and never really being aware that it came out in theaters.

They are cousins lol
This and "Under Wraps" were the best things I ever saw on Disney Channel as a kid and always almost like a personal secret because seemingly NOBODY else ever knew about either of them when I was a kid. I've only ever known one other person who knew about Heavyweights and he's my coworker. 20+ years of nobody else ever knowing what I was talking about LMFAO

Heav weights has always been a favorite of mine and Under Wraps was awesome too. Saw that a couple different Halloweens
It was actually one of my favorite movies as a kid because of how dark it really was. Unprecedented. It actually set the tone for what I'd funny in the future.
Absolutely LOVED this movie as a kid. I can't say how many times I watched it. This brings back a lot of nostalgia for me
I saw this flick as a fat kid in the theater, and it was magic. I too believe that this is a prequel to dodgeball lol
I loved this movie so much, me and my brothers watched it so many times. Such a great classic, Ben Stiller is phenomenal ❤❤❤
Idk why but the part where Ben stiller snaps the stick of pepperoni always makes me laugh

Oh, look! A deli meat! 😂😂😂
My god, this film takes me way back. I consider this film to be one of the best films I ever seen from the Disney channel.
Probably my favorite movie of all time. You had to be tough being a fat kid back in the 90’s, and I remember actually wishing I could have gone to a place like Camp Hope (pre-bankruptcy). So glad I’m not alone in the Heavyweights/Dodgeball connection. Hopefully they do hint to it in Dodgeball 2! Also, Leah Lail stole my 9 year-old heart!
Heavyweights is such a great movie, so quotable. I remember I got a copy when the local video store 'Jumbo Video' went out of business and my parents bought a bunch of tapes for like $2. Still hilarious on rewatch. Thanks for the trip down memory lane with this one!
So many quotable lines from this movies. I still say them randomly to this day lol. Great video.
I saw this movie the day it came out back in 1995. I've always enjoyed it and it has Held up REMARKABKLY well after nearly 30 years. It is still funny and way ahead of it's time. And the deleted scenes make it an entirely different movie. There are nearly 90 minutes of deleted scenes. Some are better than what is actually in the film.
Some of my favorite movie jokes come from this film, it's such a gem. The few of my favs not highlighted in this video. When they're showing Gerry the fat camp video and he pauses it, it's freeze framed on a kid's butt crack. When Tony is busting the kid's junk food stash, he begins patting Roy down like a cop and says, "Looks like my man's pack'n!" as he empties a PEZ dispenser, but instead of candy you hear the sound of shell casings. The kid @ 6:36 is always crying in the background. It's maybe the best running gag of the movie.
We're always searching for stuff to watch on our family movie night on Fridays (our kids are 9, 7, 5). They recently discovered Holes and I'm sure they're going to love this one. Really appreciate this video!
Thanks for covering this. Great movie I forgot about. Crazy I was watching Judd apatow at 7 lol
Heavyweights was one of my favorite movies growing up, and is still one that I revisit annually. It’s too bad that Disney dropped the ball on its initial release because this movie is incredible. Thanks for giving it the attention it always deserved.
Even though it's higher quality than the others I always assumed heavyweights was a Disney channel movie. Great video!
Subbed. Found your channel by this video popping up in my recommended. I'm working on a review of this film for my upcoming restart to my channel. Great video, man.
Me and my family love watching this movie on family movie nights when we are just sitting pretty bored, it’s just too damn funny that me and my dad quote it on the regular. It’s my favorite comfort movie lmao
This is a classic, my brothers and I would watch it all the time as kids and thought it was hysterical. 😂
This was one of my favorites as a kid. Haven't seen it in years, but this makes me want to put it on.
LOVE this movie!! Just watched it with my kids this summer. Underrated classic!!
My brother and I would quote this movie all the time to each other growing up. Certainly not an academy award winner, but a fun time of a movie.

If I were one of the academy board members in 1995, this movie would have won 10 Oscars.

I'm 36 and when I hear someone say "winners" I can't help but say "Skinny weiners? Did you guys hear that?"
"Come on you Devil log!" "Repulse the monkey." "Well well Nicholas, looks like London Bridge is falling down!" So many great lines.
This will forever be one of my favorite movies!
I have NO idea how Tom Hodges managed that accent as Lars, but it is so ridiculously spot on for a danish guy. Very impressive.
Dude Lars had me in tears. I've always loved this movie. So many quotes! "What is this, a deli meat?!"
I saw this movie in theaters and it still holds up in many ways, it's fun for both kids and adults, and there's so many weird random memorable quotes that have stuck with me 25 years later that I still use to this day, like whenever its somebody's turn at something or I'm telling them to do something I'll say, "Do it to it Lars." As a fat kid myself who absolutely loved the Mighty Ducks films this was almost a spiritual successor in many ways. I also was a huge fan of freaks and geeks and was stoked to realize how many people were involved in both. "Sorry to hear about your little friend Josh....he's uh, well he's dead"
