I didn't know that note next to the Mothman statue was a tribute to a fan who passed away. Now that I know, re-reading the paragraph "To all my friends - sorry for leaving you behind..." has a different and much deeper meaning... and that brought tears to my eyes... LOL! i agree with this! like he didn't say ANYTHING TO DO WITH WATER haha! flood can mean more than one thing and he didn't say water lol XD turned out of course nuclear fallout flood of the bombs meaning DO NOT GO ON ROOFS GO UNDER GROUND! xD but cultists seem rather dumb for not listening to what flood it was instead of automatically thinking "oh the Mothman means flood like water we should go on the roofs!" wrong answer! haha XD
@dillongage
2 жыл бұрын
@@alanrickmanfan27agirlnotab71 I'd hardly call that stupid. Flood by the literal definition means water or other liquids. It does not mean anything else. All other uses of the word not pertaining to water are metaphors or similes, that liken whatever the subject matter is, to water. Ex: a flood of nuclear bombs; I will flood you with paperwork. You're using the common knowledge of what a flood is, to use the word flood as an adverb. If all someone says is "the flood is coming" or "a flood is coming" and they don't specify WHAT that flood is going to be, the only 2 options are water, or creepy zombies from Halo. That's about it. It's perfectly reasonable and logical to assume they mean water. If you don't mean water and you don't tell them what you mean, you're being intentionally cryptic and vague. That's not the fault of the cultists, specifically when the word flood is very rarely, if ever, used to describe bombs. You'd think they could use a word like downpour, or torrent, even barrage or as any sane person would do, FIRE. Which if you've played the Wastelanders Mothman Event, you would realize that the mothman did indeed tell them "the fire and flood" was coming, according to Charles the Forewarned. That makes more sense. The bombs themselves are the fire, the flood is the "flood" of radiation that rushes over the world, much like an actual flood would spread water. Besides, if flood doesn't have to be taken literally, then why does high ground need to be literal? If we're talking in metaphors, and "flood" means bombs, then "high ground" could mean shelter.

Interesting note: like Ox hints at, no one initially reported or connected the Mothman to the Silver Bridge. It wasn't until about a decade later, when the Mothman Prophecies, a novel about a fictitous report's quest to find the Mothman which culminated in the reporter seeing the beast on the bridge moments before the collapse. Only then did people start claiming the connection. As such, I think the most iconic part of Mothman lore is actually the most unbelievable part.

I saw Mothman once in 76, happened just like one of those creepypastas. I was just walking along the road minding my own business when I heard the combat music start. I pulled my gun and started scanning for the enemy before I saw Mothman just sitting there on the side of the road wrapped in his wings. I figured fighting would end with my head on a platter so the two of us just stared at one another before Mothman flew away in a puff of black smoke. Was a freaky sight indeed.

The Enlightened Ones worship The Wise Mothman, purple eyes, docile, only summoned by special rituals, and benevolent to the point of giving you an xp buff- implying he does actually assist you in some way.
The Mothman is probably my favorite Cryptid in the game! If you haven’t maybe you can do a Sheepsquatch vid?

He did
It’s nice too see a 76 video without a bunch of insults about the game it got very tiring sure the game wasn’t what people wanted but at least Bethesda are updating it and fixing it
I actually love the tales from the west virginia hills. I love how we don’t have to see the scenes but we can imagine it all through the sounds.
Honestly dude i love your stuff and i love just sitting/lying down and watching your stuff you are a gift to the fallout community. And im sooo happy i found your videos a while ago. Keep up the good work, and your voice is amazing, love you Oxhorn and thank god your on youtube
First time playing 76. I was in the mining zone with the huge mining machine. I was finishing up a small raider raid. When out of no where I saw the moth man. Then it killed me and I Rage quit because I didn't save my progress. 😂
32:40 I thought that gunshot was apart of the story I got sooo into this
8:50 Bob Roach? Sounds like Bob Ross' cousin or something.
Hey oxhorn. To be honest I was told some bad news and I was a bit depressed but I just watched your vid and I'm feeling a bit better. I just want to say thanks. great vid by the way

firegun 30 sorry to hear that, glad you’re a part of the community!
I love the real life connections makes the game so much more interesting
I like the idea of a cryptic that might just be trying to warn us of dangers
Mothman:*chilling in daylight* Ox:ima shoot it a bunch of times with a musket then approach it.
Oxhorn, you have the greatest story telling voice. Love your videos, keep it up man
I have a sudden urge to watch The Mothman Prophecy!!
Hey Oxhorn, huge fan! I live in Morgantown, WV and am still so excited and proud of how my home has been represented in the Fallout universe. We actually had a concert/art show at a popular music venue (123 Pleasant Street) in Morgantown last November where we had Fancy Lad Snack Cakes, and other snacks and drinks inspired from Fallout. Every band that played that night covered a song or two from the various games, and local artists showed off Fallout inspired paintings and all kinds of other neat stuff. It was still one of the most memorable nights i’ve ever experienced here and i wish you could have been a a part of it! We’re even thinking about putting on a second annual Fallout themed show soon! You’re always welcome in Morgantown anytime! Anytime i drive through the mountains on my way to work i feel like i’m a part of the universe i’ve held so close to my heart for years and years. Thanks for everything. - Nic
Ox, you do an amazing job on these explanations. The level of detail and knowledge on the subject just draws me in. I could sit here and watch these videos for hour. Learning about the real life origins of the Mothman is really interesting. It's amazing to see the town actually has an actual Mothman festival. Makes me want to one day travel to America and see it for myself.
Great video Ox! I'm actually going to the Mothman festival this year!
Dena-Dena-Dena-Dena-Dena-Dena-Dena-Dena-moth man
I actually knew Limbless, via the internet, cause i live in texas,he was always pretty chill and always loved talking about WV and Mothman,i still miss him
The youtuber "Trey the Explainer" has an excellent series on cryptids, including one on the Mothman. He concludes it was probably a barnowl, which is also his best explanation of the Flatwoods Monster.

That's my accepted explanation too, though the red eyeshine described in the accounts actually makes it more likely a *barred* owl, instead of a barn owl. Different species. It helps that the infamous TNT Zone also is host to a native population of barred owls. Flatwoods, on the other hand, is probably a barn owl.
the real life Mothman was most likely a misidentified Owl
The Domes are real? Once more, kudos to Oxhorn for connecting lore and the real world. 🤔
I swear to god, Oxhorn's voice could make a fucking chair sound deadly
The amount of work and research Ox puts into these videos is astounding! Going into real world history, evening finding old TV footage! It deserves more praise. This is the reason I subscribe.
Fantastic editing and storytelling as always Oxhorn!
Who else has seen the ‘Lost Tape’ version of the Mothman
I've been watching a lot of these videos recently, and I'm starting to think the guy who wrote the radio dramas in-universe was a low-level Psyker, akin to the Forecaster - not able to make 1:1 predictions, but ballpark it with similar details or relevant metaphors.
3:00 I think I can hear his kid in the background
Finally I have been waiting for more fallout 76 content, to be honest this is my favorite part about your channel. Keep up the good work
Best fallout vids ever!!!
I drove over that replaced bridge and never knew of this until years later it's a bit weird to hear you talk about it again

what's with the Mothman and bridges? Can't he leave her alone?
I grew up in Parkersburg West Virginia. Just a stones throw away from Point Pleasant. I lived also within seeing distance of the Ohio river, sort of out in the country. I remember being little and hearing stories from my Mamaw about the mothman and it FREAKED me OUT! 😂 I would always check the sky when I had to go outside in the dark (as if I could have seen something anyway) just in case. My biggest fear was one night I'd look up and the mothman would be perched on the telephone pole (it was the 90's) looking down at me with those two big red glowing eyes!!! Ahhhhhh! 😨😳
smt Mothman is more shaped like a friend than this one.
Huh, I was just watching one of your videos. Neat.
Omg that second holo tape WHY did the moth man sound like R2-D2 😂
It is so nice to see you publish more Fallout 76 lore content. I had thought for a second there that your interest in 76 was waning after the Vault Raids and Nuclear Winter. Good stuff! Keep it coming!
