Loving someone is a lot dofferent from actually liking them. And to hear this from your on dad is heartbreaking, but in Larry’s case it was well diserved.

I know the point is Larry’s abhorrent behavior, but i cannot watch that final dinner scene without getting a knot in my stomach and an ache in my chest. Isobel was a kind, thoughtful and generous person and to see her attacked and demeaned, as Larry did, brings a tear to my eye every time.

I agree. Isobel don't deserve those harsh treatment.

Loved it when the Dowager told Larry's wife that in any other century he would have been called out and shot. No truer statement has ever been said.

"She wants to kidnap you into marriage! What have you to say?!" "How perfectly marvelous!" This spoke to my inner romantic. Being taken away from people who only want to use you by someone who only wants to love you...gods that was my fantasy when I was 13.

Larry Grey, Nanny West, Mrs Bird, Mr Green, Sir Anthony Stralan, Mary's cruel suitor who was on GOT, Moseley Snr, Mr Mason, Major Bryant and his parents, Prince Kuragin, Branson's brother, the guy who tried to bribe Carson, the snobby maitre'd, Atticus' parents, poor Mrs Drew, Lord Merton, The Chamber maid who tried to bribe Lady Mary, Edna the deviant maid, the list is endless. Bravo Julian Fellows & co.

"Forgive? maybe - Forget? NEVER!" have to remember this line!

Let's be real - this actor ROCKED this part! He sank his teeth into EVERY line & every scene and made you (the viewing audience) DESPISE every fiber of his being. Bravo- he needed to be punched across the table, and earned the hate mail he must've received! LOL!

Completely agree. Everything from his raised eyebrow to that curious way in which he speaks, that dragging, endlessly snobbish tone that he enlists for every slowly voiced sentence of his. The king of sleaze!!! But yes, excellent acting👌😉

It really takes alot to make a character this horrible. He did a great job, and you need characters like that to contrast the kindness of those around them, I hope he got along with the other cast members when the cameras aren't rolling.

Tom stood up for not only Robert and Cora but Rose and Atticus and Isobel without any prompting because they are his family and he loves them - I reckon Sybil would have been very proud of him

Tom didn’t really stand up. He did in a way, but in that moment Larry insulted Tom by saying he was an eccentric choice of in law.

I love how the actor playing Larry always tilts his head downward just enough that he always looks like a mean spirited little owl.

Oh, he plays the role so well! I remember hearing (back in the late 70s or so) that a lady had seen Susan Lucci at a store and hit her with her handbag, telling her she should not be sleeping with married men! The lady could not separate Lucci from her soap character, Erica Kane. 😂😂😂

Larry's father could have ( at the time ) denied him his inheritance and left him with nothing.

I love Larry, best thing about the show by far. Only a shame he is not in more. I think we can all aspire to be more like him

I wouldn't mind a series focused on Larry. One where he is humbled by facing more snobbish and well off people and a combination of dealing with the less privilege that threatens to isolate him and his wife. Or a flash forward to his kids and their liberal attitudes during ww2. Considering that the west would lurch very far to the left, it would make interesting friction from someone a generation removed from the highly conservative Victorian era.

What I might like to have seen was Cora coming to the fore a bit more here; she was, after all the hostess, and I was a little surprised that she simply sat it out--she's been brave on other occasions; and if SHE had stood up with Tom, every man in the room would have had to stand, and she could and her husband could have coldly asked Larry to leave.

this would have been farcical maybe but would id love to have seen is a scene with larry and miss bunting at dinner together

maybe it's just me but I think you should know when to fold it. and after losing a battle of wits I daresay that being called out for my lack of manners by an _irish chauffeur_ would have been a good moment to call it a night

Marvelous actor! As a character, I kept hoping to see him burst into flame, cruel, despicable fellow.

Ok, Larry is horrible, but given that all of Lord Merton's children are some degree of despicable, I question his and his late wife's parenting methods.

@@Heyy_itsJackieJulian Fellowes has said there’s no plans for any new episodes of Downton. News sites that claim a 7th season is in the works are fraudulent sites. I wish there would be more too, but I seriously doubt its in the cards. Let’s just enjoy the 6 we have plus the 2 wonderful movies.
