Thank you Marco for this well made video that shows how the very same cabin of an INCLINED an CURVED elevator quickly switches into VERTICAL mode traction.

Assuming that the wire rope, which allows the motion to be transmitted to the cabins during the horizontal journey, forms a closed loop on itself, cabin 1 grips the metal rope on the right while cabin 2 grips the metal rope on the left in the sense of movement from the place, where the crossing between the two cabins normally takes place, towards the valley station in via Balbi.

The vertical rise has two parallel sets of guides, whereas the inclined track is a single one. The turnouts allow a simultaneous use of the vertical mode raise, although the subsequent inclined path is single. In other words the turnouts raise the system flow thank to the presence of two cabins

It could be added that the only switch (turnout, point, etc.) is of the Abt type with no needles or other moving parts. These are used in nearly all single-track funiculars, with two balanced cars, to form the mid-course loop where the two cars cross. In the same city you have the examples constituted by the Righi funicular (it takes its name from the famous Swiss Rigi) and the Sant'Anna Funicular. Even the legendary Principe - Granarolo railway has Abt points at the central doubling point. Although it is not a funicular, it works (or should work) exactly like a classic two-car funicular. Even its gauge (1200 mm) makes it similar to a funicular.
