World Triggers biggest weakness as a series is that it's a more "old school" slow paced story, on top of the fact that Bailout means there's virtually no stakes during actual fights. It's hard for this story to standout in a landscape full of isekai and "system" stories with much crazier power scaling and faster paced stories.

Idk if the bailout removes the stakes. The author handles it really well; all of the main villains have an objective or motive, while border comes to contest it. If someone bails out there, unable to contest anymore, which makes it tougher on the remaining agent's. Plus, things like osamus plan to save chika really hit home because he turned his trigger off. And when we get to the neighborhood expeditions bail outs will be even more limiting

The fact is that this is only the explanation of border triggers, neighbor triggers are different beast because trigger technologies depend on the nations culture and tech know-how. @@nitalukder2108 mecha shows never delved in to that power system because the mechs themselves act as the power system. Having a mech is the same as having a tailed beast. Meaning you don’t need to delve in to the intricacies of them. Instead they make the stories personal or political. Not all succeed. But that’s why. If you try to make the mecha themsleves have a power system that governs them you’ll get bogged down in technical jargon. Mechs are science fiction not fantasy meaning that they are grounded on some level in reality and thus necessitate more complex rules to make sense. A sword can have a will without needing to explain. But if a mech shoots fire and doesn’t use oil or any other flammable substance to trigger that people will call bullshit.

But WT is basically an anime with hard magic system, you can swap their triggers with some mystical artifacts, heirlooms, etc. and there'd be no disconnect. Heck, if the author was a little "extra", their "Trion forms" would've been cooler or flashier (Saint Seiya, tokusatsus or magical girl 😅), instead of just them in randomly customized uniforms.. Though I love the show probably because of the potential of it rather than what the show actually is (I'm anime only and dubbed, a double whammy).

@@DouaTwoAnime To clarify, I didn't have any issue with the training to become an A-class, that to me made perfect sense given the universe. It was fantastic seeing Osamu and Chicca become fully fledged agents in their own right. Just I feel following it up with a full, awayday training arc felt like shifting the goal posts. With the exam over I expected the setting to change dramatically and finally go on that big, epic adventure which had been promised from the outset. But two years later we are mid way through another training arc with no end in sight. Maybe it is to set the expectations and provide training, but it's honestly just getting to feel like the neighbourhood quest will be a largely incidental book note at this point.

The characters would have been fleshed out in these low-stakes situations, and the story could add more through exploration in more high-risk settings. Who knows, though.

Very good video! Always awesome to see people still making videos on it. However you are wrong about the number of trigger users. There are 9 different positions, disregarding Operators and Engineers, there are 7 positions in combat. These are; Attacker, Sniper, Shooter, Gunner, All-Rounder, Spotter, and Trapper. Attacker, Sniper, Shooter, and Gunner are the 4 positions available for C ranks (trainees) to choose from, making those the 4 basic standard positions and trigger types. Spotter and Trapper are only available once you reach B rank, and All-Rounder is only available once you have reached a certain threshold in points (6k each), or in other words, proven your expertise as both an Attacker and Gunner. Basically, when you pick a position you will earn points as that specific position, which will determine your rank within border among agents with that same position. While those points will be documented and saved, that means to earn points within another position so you can work towards the rights of becoming an All-Rounder, you have to switch and start over from 0 points in that other position. That's why becoming an All-Rounder is fairly hard and is considered to be quite impressive, cause earning points consistently is already considered pretty difficult, and so having the expertise to do so with 2 completely different positions is a somewhat rare feat. Additionally you can after becoming an All-Rounder work towards Sniper as well, which will earn you the title of Perfect All-Rounder, which currenly the only person in border with this title is Reiji from Tomakoma. It's important to remember that your individual points within a position does NOT translate to your "letter rank (C, B, and A, which is your squads rank as a whole)", so even B-ranks can be All-Rounders. So don't let their squads rank fool you, some B ranks can be stronger than some A ranks. Trapper I think is pretty self-explanetory even though we haven't seen any in action. Spotters are still a mystery however. In real life military, a Spotter is someone who stand by and supports snipers, whose tasks include but is not limited to finding/assigning targets to the sniper, and observing that the sniper hit their mark. But it's a pretty agreed upon thing in the community that such a position isn't really needed in border, since the Operator usually does most things that a Spotter would do, so their exact function as a border position is not yet known. Although it is theorized that Spotters are a position that don't deal any damage, since the 1 known spotter doesn't seem to have any offensive triggers

The first season was honest to God so awfully paced I would never have watched it, but Triggers are so intoxicating as a power system I couldn't do anything _but_ watch. It's so simple yet deeply developed that I could often intimately foresee how a fight would end (and be pleasantly surprised when it didn't pan out that way).

I feel like something important that you didn't touch upon is how the Sniper triggers each have their best aspects increased the more Trion that the wielder has. This is pretty straightforward for the Ibis which only gets stronger, but the fact that someone can shoot faster with the Lightning is an aspect is something really special.

As someone who just started world trigger last month I can say this. Feels like all of world trigger might be underrated. The most competent characters and a honestly fun power system perfect for a video game. Which was on the PS vita... to bad I don't have mine anymore 😢

I’m feel like the reason why “world trigger”is so underrated and not well known is due to the fact that around the time the series came out there were alot of other well known manga that were getting adaptations around that time. I remembered hearing about world trigger and people mentioning it, but i wasn’t really interested at the time especially with it’s tradition slow paced story compared to other anime and their fast paced, and their advertisement made it no better. If im being completely honest i think the marketing team was lazy asl when it was promoting world trigger to the point where it was less appealing, but ever since it showed on netflix and i gave it a try, people really were missing out because this is arguably one of the most underrated battle anime’s like it’s literally top 10 in my list and I’ve watched a considerable amount of great anime’s but this anime really had me invested in its plot and system the last time ive finished an anime in a short amount of time was fullmetal alchemist and I’ve finished the original and brotherhood in the span of 4 days max

I remember loving World Trigger when season 1 came out. It took forever for season 2 to be made and if I remember correctly the mangaka has some health issues making production speed pretty slow which is amplified by the slow pacing of the story. The way it's laid out, the story seems like it's meant to be a long running manga/anime which I think would be great but with the health issues the mangaka has I'm afraid it's not something they'll physically be able to get through. I'll have to check out the manga again soon and see how far along they are. I really hope this story gets finished though I was really enjoying it.

I once came up with and had an idea for a system where a character's power is based largely on experience and talent when using items. If a character has a niece weapon or armor, yet is lacking in experience and talent, then it doesn't work that well. Yet if a character is well talented and experienced, then they can be hard to defeat when even using cheap equipment. There is also a morality and ethics element to the system as the equipment made would have a charm or soul of some sort in it so that those with bad intent would not be able to use the things as the charms or souls would not permit the user to use them. In such a way, an evil character would not work their way through the ranks lest they mess with the construction of the equipment, and there is regulations and inspections on a periodic basis. As a result, only the truly best characters of good character would rise. And those that are evil will either use illegal equipment or make deals with evil beings. And using such equipment for evil for too long would eventually change the user to the point where they become increasingly monstrous. In such a system, characters could either be good due to being in a wealthy aristocratic family that instills training early on, or talent from any of the other classes working themselves up to be a hero without there being any question nor barrier. A person from a famous family may not make it if they don't put the effort in, and those from the most impoverished classes can work themselves up. And schools of different grade and quality are open to those that can earn their place there much like a public school is open to everyone. And much like there being different schools, there are academies open for different classes ranging from warrior, magic user, even something like a merchant class. And each grade earned gives a user a chance and right to wear armor and capes of different colors with weakest wearing red, to the strongest wearing purple, moving along the colors of the rainbow. There is an element of magic and science fiction molded into the system with versions changing through history. Like the old days using magic and smithing, the industrial era having period magic and steam punk elements, and so on with each era. There would even be museums and examples of past styles and architecture in the cities in the story, like a former steam punk industrial area with canals later becoming an art district with handsome condos. I personally like the style as it would ensure that the main character is not some over powered character with a cheat system, and that they would have to make actual honest work to defeat evil. And that any straying from the path would result in the character weakening themselves. Just like how anime was like back in the late 80s and early 90s.

This is one of those animes that don't suffer from "same attack syndrome" and every fight is different, but without any random bs "ah, the booty licker sausage finger trick, I haven't used this since the Heian Era". Every rule is established, and they never break any rules.
