Also, in the original Rumpelstiltskin tale there were no tricks. It was like this: a miller had a daughter that was not only beautiful, but also very skilled in crafting. The king once saw her, and the miller told him that she could 'make golden yarn out of straw', meaning that she could make good yarn out of bad wool, but the king understood it literally and ordered that the girl would do it. Of course, she could not do so, but at night a gnome-like little man came to her and said that he could do it, but asked something in return. The girl gave him her necklace, and he turned the straw given to her into golden yarn. The king, impressed, told her to do it two more times. The situation repeated itself, but the second time the girl gave her ring to the little man, and the third time she promised to give him her firstborn child (because he insisted on it, and she would be executed if the order was not fulfilled). Soon after that, the king and the girl got married, and in a year she had a baby. And the little man returned to remind her about her promise, but after seeing her genuine tears and hearing her pleas not to take her child away, he agreed to leave her alone if she could guess his name within three days. On the evening of the third day, one of the king's servants told her that he 'saw a strange sight: a little man joyfully dancing around the fire and singing a sing about getting a great reward, because nobody knew his name, which was Rumpelstiltskin'. And... The rest is history

No matter how many times I've seen this, I always cry during that scene with Shrek disappearing :( all those things he said to Fiona, just ugh it makes the flood gates open.

This one created an interesting fan theory that Fairy Godmother cursed Fiona to give her loser son a wife. Rumple is a SUPERB villain to close out the current films. Also Chonk Puss is so friggen hilarious

I think it would've been interesting if at the end he had reappear at the moment where he was about to sign the deal, instead of before he messed up the cake, so he would still have made mistakes and so he could fix things with his family by apologizing with all his heart, less fairy-taly but more impactful for him, but I still like it :)

I think him reappearing at the party before he messed up the cake is supposed to be his second chance at not messing his own life up, it makes a lot of sense he’d reappear there. However I can understand what wanting him to reappear when he was about to sign the deal with Rumpel, it would definitely make things a little tense still.

The fact that Rumpelstiltskin looks like Shane Dawson has prevented me from remembering what the plot of this movie was. 🤣 it was too distracting. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

The story of Rumpelstiltskin = father gets daughter in trouble by falsely bragging about her being able to weave straw into Gold to the king, King takes daughter and tells her to get to work. She cries Rumple comes and helps her 3 times, on the 3rd she promises him her first baby, she marries the Kidnapper king and has a baby. Rumple comes to take the baby but gives her 3 days to guess his name. A servant finds out the name Queenie gets to keep her baby, Rumple tears himself in half. The end

@@barbarabaker1457 It may also be the lore originated on the brittish Islands since I know several versions of the tale from a collection of scotish tales with the difference that the girl has to spin a whole room of flax over night not straw into gold.

Devotion & gratitude is what makes families stable & secure. If every husband felt he was lucky to have his wife, there would be far fewer divorces and happier children growing up into healthier adults.

This movie is the FIRST time we're seeing Shrek cry.

Makes a lot of sense considering he thought his life was over

The shrek franchise was originally conceived as a 5-movie set. S5 has had various delays, but overall, it is not dead yet. Last rumor was the release was to be 9/30/22 reported by Looper via Screen Rant. That was a while ago.

Rumplestilskine- there was a miller's daughter who is locked in a tower until she can spin straw into gold and this demon guy (rumplestilskine) says he would do it for her but as a price she had to give up her first born child.

I love how Fiona's combat skills didn't just happen out of nowhere here. In all the films, she's a known fighter!

Same, I don't understand all the fuss about the second one. It was the worst in my opinion I really didn't like it. Too many songs and refs it looks like too much fan service I think. But I've always had weird tastes and overall I'm happy if people liked it but the second is a big nope for me. Fourth is my favorite.

be careful what you wish for and appreciate what you have, would say those are the 2 main messages here :D would definitely say this one was better than the 3rd, kinda close to the 1st one, the 2nd is still the best but overall this franchise is very strong and has a lot of quality :)

Puss in boots got a stand alone spin off movie. You should watch that too. It was my son's favourite when he was younger.

3:32 exactly! Never thought of the dad's comment this way, but his responsibility as a king is just as important if not greater than his bring a dad! He's essentially father to his subjects and must make decisions keeping their welfare in mind.

This movie is criminally underrated.

I can recommend film The Stand-in. It is about celebrity trying hide from people just like Shrek.

I feel like you have to react to the series Once Upon a Time - takes all the classic fairy tales and turns them inside out and upside down in the most amazing ways. I can see you absolutely LOVE it!

Donkey is a hero in a way, he’s the one who brought up the exit clause stuff to Shrek with the contract when Shrek lost all hope

My favourite Shrek movie was the second one but I like them all in general

This is actually my favorite of the series.

This film was great. 27:06 I always love seeing films/ TV episodes featuring established characters in an alternate timeline/ parallel universe, *especially* when they turn out so badass lol (17:11 19:39 20:17 28:08).

You should also react to the Kung Fu Panda movies

one of most underated movies yes but so are lots of my fave ones from my childhood, like quest for camelot, ferngully and rock a doodle all 3 some of my all time fave animated movies that people seem to dislike

@@tmm4195 I know. It wasn't bad I did enjoy it I just always enjoyed the others a bit more. Overall the shrek series is a great series. Just something about shrek 2 always bothered me. I can't really put my finger on it.

In having just watched this, I did remember having seen it. Though I think I waited on the 3rd and 4th to come to Tv before seeing them. My faves has always been the 2nd, then the first. Though I still feel they should've stopped after the 3rd one. Was fun as always watching your reactions Nick! TC ☺🌌

This was indeed a great ending for the movies, great reaction to this, it’s been a while since I’ve seen it! I like that we got to see more ogres in this, too. Up until the 4th one it had just been Shrek and (kinda) Fiona. 👏

I truly think that the "time travel" (or in this case bargain) thing that modifies the present into something completely different, or the "return to the past to save the present" is fine for TV, it's like part of the scope statement of any tv shows or cartoon, but I think it doesn't fit for cinema movies, it was great in the 80s but should have stayed in the 80s... But I still really love this movie, it's very enjoyable ^^

I think it's a tricky trope to portray. Shows have to consider breaks for commercials which kind of break up the storyline. Movies either have too much information, or the studio has too much influence. My only exposure to this trope in movies are the back to the future franchise and Pleasantville (1998)

Because lots of those you reacted have amazing sequels worth a reaction (my personal fav is Aladdin's 1st sequel, which I had the VHS loop-playing in my childhood) P.s. some of those also have canon animated series

3:28 lot of good points here.

The antagonist is new here, but not technically. We did see him in the 3rd movie, but he was largely a throwaway joke made to emphasize how much of a jerk Charming was, and how literal and stupid the villains can be. He looks completely different now, and is much more integral to the plot.

Yep I actually could see the resemblance between his model in this movie and in the 3rd one, same outfit and face is similar. In the 3rd movie he wasn’t as against Shrek as he was in the 4th movie because he didn’t know at the time that Shrek rescued Fiona from the tower till the end of the first movie when they both were together.

My Shrek Ranking: 4: #3 3: #1 2: #4 1: #2

The miller was a terrible, pathological liar, and one day, he told the king, who was about to sentence him to death over nonpayment of debts, that his daughter could spin straw into gold. The king's servant came for her, on his orders, and locked her in a huge room with nothing but a spinning wheel, a chair, and mountains of straw. She was told that, if she couldn't spin it all into gold by sunrise the next morning, she and her father would both be put to death. Rumplestiltskin came to her aid, asking only for her copper ring as payment. She and her father were spared, but only for one night, since the king got greedy. He did the same thing that night, but in a bigger room with more straw. Same deal. Straw become gold, she and her father are safe. If not... You get the picture. Rumplestiltskin came to her aid again, this time asking for her necklace, the only thing she had left of her deceased mother. She relents, forking over the necklace, and Rumple spins the straw like before. Next morning, the king is delighted to see all that gold. He locks her up a third time, but changes the deal. Failure will still result in death, but if she can manage to spin again like before, she'll become his wife. Rumple comes back, but she has nothing left to give as payment. So he asks the impossible: her firstborn child. She tries to dissuade him, but eventually agrees. When she is made queen, it is not without sorrow that she becomes pregnant. When her daughter is born, Rumple comes to collect. So, since she can't just "give up" the baby without the king noticing anything's amiss, she goes to him and confesses. Rumple gives her 3 days to guess his name, or the baby is his. The king sends out all his soldiers to collect all the unusual names in the kingdom. These, she guesses, but is always wrong. Finally, at day 3, a soldier comes across Rumplestiltskin himself, chanting over a fire that no one will ever guess his name, and that he plans to cook and eat the baby. But he makes one stupid, colossal mistake. He says his own name. When Rumple returns to the castle, thinking there's no way he can lose, the soldier has already told the royals what he heard. The queen takes a couple of repeated guesses, toying with him, before calling him by his actual name. Rumple becomes furious and starts stomping the ground, yelling, "The devil told you that!" over and over, until he's angered the devil so much that satan makes the ground cave in beneath Rumple's feet, and her falls straight into hell.

You should react to the spinoff film, Puss in Boots. It's just as good as the original franchise.

The 2nd movie was the best for me, then the 1st But I really think that is due to the power of expectations alone When I saw the second movie I didn't think it could meet my expectations of the first so I was very positively surprised and so when I saw the third the expectations were very high and when I saw the fourth I guessed the third was just not up to the challenge and they would find their way back to the greatness of the first two Could also be that movie 3+4 were released when political correctness had started to be a thing in society, so there was not quite as much room for the jokes on the edge

you should totally watch puss in boots, it was one of my fav movies when i was little, and i think a worthy spinoff👍

I never cared about the third, never carred about the marriage stuff. Doesn't seem as bad as I remember but the 4th one entertained me, even if it doesn't have its seriousness that the first and second had.

This one is my favorite i always have fun when i watch, the third is the most boring to me, one is cool but after i saw the musical i prefer the musical, so is 4, 2, 1, 3 for me

I liked the 4th movie once but while never got tired of the older once it's differnt with this one. It's also not as funny for me as the others. I like certain scenes like the ogers and Fiona as warrior or the witch disco. I like the ogers so much I wished we had seen them before/ would see more of them. my biggest problem ist however. These movies were always so good for destroying fairtale plots wich they did with Fiona's charakter but leaning on the other hand on the most cleché trope of all being saved by true loves kiss. This leading to Shreck behaving like a stalker (wich no one seems to realize) and Fiona learning to love him with in several hours while in the first movie it took them at least about a day maybe a little more. Also Rumpelstiltskin is more annoying to me then anything else despite his cleverness. So this is my least favourite movie of the franchies.

Do you prefer shrek the third over this or this over the third?

While the film is okay, I personally think it's the worst in the series, kind of like a fan-fiction adapted into a film by DreamWorks. At the end of Shrek the Third, we see Shrek and Fiona back in the swamp taking care of their kids over the period of what's probably a few days, which shows that Shrek is okay with and also happy being a dad. He's overcome the whole 'I don't know if this is for me' challenge of that film. But then here in Forever After Shrek just seems to be very tired of parenting (which is a real thing, I get it, I just don't think it meshes well with his character development from the last film). Overall the film feels like something that was made more so just for the money, rather than a true sequel. But hey, I'm glad you enjoy the film. Props to you! 👍

Thor react you probably don’t know and you probably change your mind about Shrek 4 is. Shrek 4 is totally a garbage movie because we know the real reason why Fiona get put in the tower because her father treated his on happily ever after with the fairy godmother and the fairy godmother is the real big villain in Shrek. So when Shrek 4 is made this is for money and business for the products of the movie so you don’t like Shrek 4 now you found the truth about it and in fact The numbers of Shrek movies is 3 because Shrek 4 is absolutely no sense and a bullshit this movie is so ridiculous and disrespectful to the real story of Fiona because the truth of his capture has reveled in Shrek 2 so please read more about Shrek in Wikipedia and others websites
