The Most Uncrowded, Underrated National Park in Utah (Car Camping/Vanlife Adventures)

In this video I explore the extremely rugged backcountry of one of my favorite national parks of the West, one that I think is the most underrated of the five national parks in Utah. Oh, and I didn't see a soul the entire day.

Hi, I'm from the UK, love your channel and subscribed. We have only been to Utah once, we drove out to Monument Valley from Grand Canyon village. The only other car we saw was a cop, he asked us what we were doing out there, he said " there ain't nothing out here" we said that's what we liked about it. ❤

This is so rad! I went down the KZread rabbit hole watching overlanding videos. This video started and I'm like, "isn't that the tenkara addict?" Love your fishing videos and they were a big inspiration to my getting started with tenkara fishing. Keep the content coming!!

At 66 and a 2x can c.f.fer survivor I know I'll never climb another mountain like that. Thanks for taking us along. Let's me reminisce about climbing the CO 14'ers in winter. Crazy Kids. You never felt cold till you have stood at 14k in a Feb 80 mph wind. Froze water solid in 30 min in our packs. Now I sit by the warm fore and watch! THANKS from an old fart!

Like many parks, it's very seasonal. Weekends, summers, and holidays will be the busiest. But, of the Utah National parks, Capital Reef is the least well known.

All of Southern Utah is an amazing, rugged and gorgeous place. I drove past the Behunin cabin, and stopped to walk around a bit, but we didn't see any more of Capitol Reef except from the highway. We saw lots of Escalante-area slot canyons on that trip, though! Thanks for sharing another adventure with us!

I tried for this summit last September starting from its northwest side near the road junction. Had fun scrambling and route-finding to make it up to a flat area west of the peak and then around to its south side. Got to its base and saw NOTHING that looked less than super scary without a rope! I decided to call it a day and went back the same way, which was still challenging to find the correct way down. Beautiful, lonely and interesting route for a 59 year old (although I've been doing a lot of this since moving to AZ in 1983! )

Loved it! What an absolutely incredible place and what a cool feature to climb. Capitol Reef is high on my list for whenever I manage to get to Utah. I can see I'm definitely going to need to get my lazy self out of my car and onto some hikes...I loved every second of this one. Impossible to name a favorite part, though like many other commenters, I literally LOL'd at the "...yeesh." Haha

Thank you for this video! I live in Utah and somehow have never been to Capital Reef. I so rarely get vacation time that I don't get a chance to do more than a couple of camping trips a year that aren't within an hour of SLC. Longer trips, we usually go to Zion or Yellowstone. Both are obviously beautiful but the crowds can make me anxious sometimes. Capital Reef looks perfect. Beautiful and quiet. I'll definitely take my boys camping there this Spring.

Just ran across your videos and i really love your love for nature and adventures. I'm from and currently living in Northwest Georgia. Here of course is the beautiful beginnings of the Appalachian Mountains where my adventures are not on foot but on my Harley. Altough your very inspiring to get out and explore on foot and car camping. Be Safe and Thank you for sharing❤

@@SUVRVing Is this your favorite capitol reef hike. I remember doing the walk through the canyon at the end of the road where the Indian drawings are up on the walls as you enter the small canyon and walk into it. Another great little hike was right across from either the pie place or the camping ground and it went up the cliffs and eventually to a nice overlook spot that looked out over the main road. I agree with you I enjoyed this park much more that Bryce or Zion because it was so quiet and peaceful without the huge crowds. Also seemed haunted to me. Could still feel the presence of the Native Americans that lived there.

If you shot this all alone without a helper- wow! A lot of hiking back to get your camera I imagine! Excellent video .

Not surprised to hear. I went through Utah in 1994 sleeping in an SUV at every national park and other places. Capitol Reef was a pleasant unsung surprise with a little bit of everything Utah has to offer.

Capitol Reef! I've been there twice although this last time I did the circle tour I only drove through it as we didn't have time to stop and explore. Watching your video made me realize that I had forgotten to stop by those huge cottonwood trees this last trip! I guess I'll have to make another trip to visit them again.

Beautiful place been on my bucket list of places to go! Thank you for sharing your adventures! Kind of freaks me out when you climb some of those places alone but I understand I've done similar things myself and you've had a lot of experience with it and trust yourself...it's not like you're just walking into the wilderness for the first time. But those camera shots climbing near the summit freaked me out lol! Thank you!

Thanks John! If you're not a longtime rock climber like me, this kind of thing could definitely be intimidating and probably shouldn't be attempted. But it was pretty trivial for me. I appreciate you watching and commenting.
