Just finished making a board full of soft pandas with polia stems. (price per switch for this combo was $0.65 with both switches being on sale) I think I will enjoy these for daily use because they're supposed to be less tactile than normal panda leafs (leaves?) by design. Maybe I haven't come to be enlightened by super tactile switches yet but I like having fingers without soreness from typing. If gazzew boba switches weren't so expensive, I'd definetly buy some for the housing alone.

Love the Holy Bobas! I have them built with the halo stems, kailh Polia stems, and glorious panda stems. Haven't tried the polias yet since I'm waiting to mount them in my Scarlet but that's definitely the cheapest way to build these right now. Only issue is that the tight gazzew housing can cause some stems to bind

The real most tactile frankenswitch I've ever used was a blueberry stem in koala housing (or T1). Way too big of a sharp bump to be used on the regular though. But way more tactile than holy boba or even zykos. Not saying it's better because it's a bit uncomfortably tactile to be honest. It sounds decently thocky as well.

In the recent batch, Gazzew increased the tolerance on their U4Ts, making the Halo true stems bind on release issue happens a lot more often. Before you will have maybe 1 out of 4 switches that will bind. But in my recent batch I was making for a friend, out of 90 switches, only 5 was not binding. We had to dremel away some of the housing wall to allow the stems to fully release. So just a heads up for anyone thinking about making some. EDIT: Seems to be more of an issue with the later batches of Halo true stems than U4T housings.

Correct me if I'm wrong. So you're saying for earlier batches, the failure rate is 1/4 and now it's 5/90 = 1/18 so it's significantly lower? I'm new to frankens and looking into making some bykos, are there other issues that might come up?

@@kennethng9653 Failure rate is higher, sorry if my wording was a bit confusing. In my case, out of the 90 sets of switches, I was only able to make 5 good switches that did not bind (after matching through all 90 boba tops for each stem, very tedious lol). Since bykos are just zybos with boba top??, you might see the same issues. I think I saw a video of another reviewer on the HB mentioned he ran into the same issue with the later batch as well.

  • @jondoe9596

@@kennethng9653 Seems like you were right in suggesting it was the stems. The old Halo stems were definitely easier to fit. Tested with Halo stems from Drop holy pandas bought last year. Also tested with the Halo stems from the first holy bobas batch I made earlier this year for a coworker. Both of these stems have an easier time fitting in the U4T housings. Putting both new and old batch of Halo stems back to back, there seems to be a slight difference in the width size. Unfortunately, I left my digital caliper at work and cannot give a precise measurement of what the differences were. Maybe you'll have an easier time with kailh polia variation of this stem? Being a linear switch person, I don't have much access to tactile parts, and I don't know anyone who has access these stems to do more testing.

I think it's very close. Holy Boba is probably more tactile, but the bottoming out 'clack' on the Zykos/Bykos is sooo satisfying that it can make it seem to be more tactile than it actually is. I'm using Bykos myself. Both are incredibly tactile though, far above the others in my opinion.

This is the biggest myth of Boba u4ts. They sound much better with lube and they are scratchy without lube. I have them and have daily driven them for around 9 months, and this is what I've noticed.

I'm having a hard time believing anything other than noise is actually changed here. From pictures it seems to me that Boba stems are just one of at least a dozen Halo stem clones with the exact same shape on the tactile bump. Thus swapping the stems would accomplish nothing tactility-wise. Zykos/Bykos make sense because the Zealios stem bump is genuinely subtlely different from Halo-class stems, but the Boba is not.
