The most reliable used car ever? - Toyota Auris Hybrid Used Car Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This I think is the most reliable and economical used family car under £7k. Free road tax aswell.

    @@iLouieTube Imported the car from Germany because it had a very low milage. It's now at 70000 miles. The battery is garanteed by Toyota for at least 68000 miles. Everything is still working as a brand new car. Only problem is with these older Hybride's is the fact that the battery is not under the rear seat like a modern Toyota, but in the back of the car, so luggage space is very small. The hybrid system is exactly as the Prius, so nothing to worry about. Be aware that the car, although it needs not much maintenance, it's done by a good mechanic or dealership. It needs a oil change every year, and a oil change of the planet wheel gearbox every 70000 miles. I advise everyone to learn about the technical aspects of the hybrid car, because it's technically way different than the ordinary Ice engine cars. Basicly you're driving a electric car with a ICE engine to generate electric power.

    @@wimschoenmakers5463 very informative thankyou very much, since my comment I have opted for a non hybrid version, I like to work on my own cars and I find toyotas setups are a breeze to work on, after watching multiple vids and seeing multiple pics I'm not quite liking the hybrid setup looks abit of a pain for me tbh and abit messy, maybe in the future but not now, I'm going to get the 1.6L v-matic version in manual, I've been looking for a low mileage one so I can use it for many many years and it will still hold a good value, I currently have a 2002 corolla 1.4l which I've had 5 years and it's been fantastic but I want something abit newer with parking sensors, cruise controll, better mpg, bigger engine and more power with that 6 speed gearbox for motorway drives, thanks for your reply 😁👍🏻

    Excellent review. I have this exact Toyota Auris Hybrid in a late 2012 model. She has about 124K miles, and the battery is in great shape. I get about 70 to 85 UK mpg city and highway combined. I find the MPG on the highway drops a little, say about 65 to 70 MPG. I do about 100 miles per week and I only have to fill up once per month which costs around €50 to 55. That gives me a total of 530 miles. By far the best car I've owned, the cheapest to run, low maintenance, and has much more torque and power than the VW Golf 1.6 Highline that I had previously.

  • @WolvesInferno

    @WolvesInferno

    @@saulmunoz3731 Hi, no problems at all. The main problem or issue I would check is to take the car out for a good test run and make sure the Hybrid battery is charging up when driving. You can check it by pressing the DSP button on the steering wheel. There are not many other issues to check, because it's not a normal petrol or diesel car. Another major thing to check is the Hybrid fan filter. If it's very clean, I don't think you have anything to worry about. However, if it's clogged with dust you will need the fan cleaned by a Toyota or Lexus mechanic. I ope that helped you.

    Hello there! Thank you very much for the useful video! I'm not very familiar with the hybrid cars and honestly wasn't really interested in them until recently. I have fully committed myself to EVs, and began to think about converting retro (and not so old) ICE cars. However after watching your video and a few others I began to think it makes sense to include in this group for conversion hybrid cars too. They are after all half electric to put it this way. For example Toyota/Lexus have some models which have powerful enough electric motors to move the car on electricity only, in this case is it possible to remove the ICE from the car and use it as electric only? Of Course battery capacity has to be increased and few other changes to be done. My question is does it make sense for this conversion and if it does, could you please point which models are the best candidates? Regards, Thanks!

    If it's a manual then yes go for it, as long as it's got good service history, usually very solid. But if you go for the MMT auto clutch system on those Auris' are very unreliable and I normally tell people I know to avoid them. If you do like it then Make sure the mmt actuator has been changed recently, if it hasnt it's pot luck. Replacement cost is circa £1400...don't get used actuators as you don't know how long they'll last, so only option is new part. This is the reason why they're generally low priced on the used market. Hope this helps and all the best.

If not ask if the previous owner/seller knows. The only way to know is a main dealer level diagnostic tool or until you drive it and an error sign occurs. I wouldnt worry too much about not buying the ford focus...they also have poor automatic gearboxes...again manual is fine. Same with Golf Dsg. Best full automatic hatch of that era is the Honda civic, but again be careful which one you choose as it came in disasterous semi automatic or the more reliable full automatic version.

    That's about on par for the price of those hybrids these days. Usually fine, just that the hybrid system can start to go at around 140-180k miles.
