This artist will gush about his OCs for hours if you let him. Working on my graphic novel has forced me out of my comfort zones so much. I've had to draw backgrounds, humans, realistic animals, all things I don't draw regularly, but they're elements that I have to draw to tell the story I want to tell. I'm just happy I managed to finally get off my lazy ass and start actually doing a graphic novel (I'm over 80 pages in now! Holy shit!), but I guess it's a matter of finding the inspiration to keep working at it.

@@MohammedAgbadi Oh, they still add like 5x the time it takes me to finish a page when I put them in, but establishing shots are important for storytelling so I force myself to put them in, and I can't allow myself to not have them look as good as the characters, so they end up taking forever. The most recent page took 3 weeks because of backgrounds, I can usually knock a page out in 1 week. Like anything else, though, I just have lots of references on hand and make liberal use of Clip Studio's perspective rulers.

How I colour: 1. Select the empty spaces of your linear layer 2. Increase selection by about 2 pixels 3. Invert selection 4. Fill selection with base colour in a different layer 5. Colour in details on a different layer with the base color as a mask, OR select the base colour and colour your details in that This eliminates potential "holes" in your colours and cuts down colouring time tremendously.

There are a lot of artists that make art books in a sketch book, where they do the pre-designs and ideas in another sketchbook and then put the finished pieces in another. Then they post their sketchbook tours in videos, and they are gorgeous. I want to specify that there is nothing at all wrong with doing this, and I love watching the videos and seeing these artbooks in a sketchbook. The problem is that a lot of people get ideas that this is what a sketchbook should look like and then feel bad that theirs is just a book of scribbles, thumbnails, quick figure sketches, sampling new media and choosing colors for the drawing you're doing, etc. Those sketchbooks ("real" sketchbooks) are a lot of fun to tour too, but it turns into a self esteem thing, where people feel like they're a failure, because it isn't an artbook. I definitely make playlists for my characters. I love to do whatever I can to flesh them out. My weak point in drawing people is butts. I am really bad at drawing butts. Either they have flat, non-existent butts (like me), or they have butts like round balloons.

*This is one of the main issues that will arise in the mind of a performer no matter* what field he/she is in. I believe that when the idea came to us, it means we are the one who responsible for creating and delivering the meaning of the creation to a group of people or to the person who must receive it. The moment our heart says yes to a vision, no matter what kind of confusion state we are in, this shall pass too. Sometimes, we might think that we will lose something if we stop moving although the mind keeps questioning, "what's going on?". Take the time to recharge because we often do better without knowing and it's all coming from the effort that we've put in to make things happen. In the past maybe you can notice things which are happening behind the scenes, but now you can't see that for temporary, it doesn't mean you are not moving.💓

I have the hardest time finishing character ref sheets. You have to draw each character of your story in different angles, outfits, and hair styles. Sometimes you have to add accessories they commonly use like cell phones and wands. 3d models help speed up the process, but its still a slog to do. I end up doing 1 or 2 characters, take a break, then forget to end the break. For the fan art thing, I feel that is subjective. Every time I did fan art, people only liked that particular image, but didn't stay to see anything else. People didn't like my work, they just liked the character.

I hate when that happens. Or another one is when you do some kind of challenge like “draw this in your style” and it only gets likes because it’s a hashtag by a bigger artist with lots of people actively participating at the time. All the art you posted before or after that gets zero attention 😢

  • @yusukeelric

This is something i often do. Start a draw, and midway abandon it, because i don't feel it's going to be up to my standards. And im not very high on standards at other people. But with my own works, i often have very high ones. I want every work to atleast be on par with my last best, or close enough. My way of dealihng with abandoned works is often compiling them, and pick those that reached the lineart phase and share them. The classroom things only happened... I think the first year... Then people started asking me for drawings, it's like it's all on perseverance and getting better. I used to be the minimalist artist. But now im between minimalist and picaso. Often drawing very detailed yet simple shapes around the character. Like drops of blood flying. But if you look closely it accurately reflects light and reflections. But sometimes i just draw where the character is.

When I am rarely drawing something with line-art (I am usually painting), I am a bucket guy with a bit of pixel artist. I am just filling empty parts between line art with bucket and then just zoom in to fill all areas, that bucket tool didn't fill.

But hands can add so much character to, well, a character. Not only in gesture, but in how they look as well. I really like drawing hands of people who do a lot of hard physical work. You can't mistake them with anything else.

i am an artist, who always draw complete artworks and never has uncomplete ones, but the problem i just don't have a will and strength to do this, it's so hard, i'm so weak for drawing (and generally for this life, this world is not for me, i cannot do anything, everything is too hard for me), so i give up being artist, i never drawing anymore and i just can't see anything related to it, cannot touch anything related to art, cannot draw, cannot hear about it, cannot interact with anything, what related to art, i asked all my friends to not share their arts with me, i almost do not using the internet and only playing games everyday and listen to music (TOO BAD IT'S AN ARTS TOO, MUSIC AND GAMES, I CANNOT ESCAPE FROM IT COMPLETELY), i'm just tired of this life, i just want to live peaceful life without suffering in endless agony from realizing that i cannot be who i wanted to be and cannot do anything and i just that person, who never have any even little sparkles in her eyes and nothing inspires him but only demotivating. My thoughts are clear, but my brain still doesn't want listen to me, i don't care about arts from other artists, but i don't know what is wrong with me, i just can't mentally draw anymore, i just can't even touch a paper with pen or draw a lines on computer with tablet, if i start drawing it's just hurting me and exhausting me, throwing instantly back to depression, i don't know how to fix myself, i don't have money but i should live somehow and i should find somehow a good therapist in my country, where we doesn't have any good therapists, and i don't have money on them and my parents don't understand that i have problems they only make a fun of me and bullying me and forcing me to find a job, when i can't work anyhow at any job, it's impossible for me, i'm an mentally incapable person and i just cannot load myself physically or mentally even a little, my brain just instantly gets exhausted and overloaded and just crashes to keep myself undestroyed, and i'm just turning off. I've born with aphantasia, and i suffered from lack of oxygen when i born, and tests says that parts of my brain doesn't work at all, they are not functioning, i just can't learn anything no matter how hard i'm trying, i don't know how should i become good at any thing and how should i live and love myself, when i born broken in the world, which is constructed not for people like me.

So sorry to read that. I hope you find the help you need, is no easy to live with such troubles, hopelessness afects my daily life to. But even when life seems so empty most of the days, there are days with a little bit of hope. Maybe those days will come soon. Like they say in a movie i saw a while ago, "you don't know what the tide will bring you tomorrow". Maybe it can be something good? Sorry if my comment is cheesy for you, i don't want to sound like that people who say things like "just don't be depressed", because i know that is bullshit, and it tends to worsen the things. But i hope that you can find some hope in those darks days. Life is a miracle, even when our days seems so empty and hollow. Sometimes darkness make us questioning some important things about ourselves and the things around us. I hope you doing well soon, i send you a hug.
