I thought this was just going to be a Ayaneo Air 1S unboxing, did not expect a whole setup. Pretty cool to see how far PC gaming has come over the last couple years with these handheld devices, can just whip em out and have a whole setup in less than 10 minutes. Great video!

I was looking for gaming devices and anyaneo looks pretty😮 Retro version looks so neat!

Earlier today I was having trouble getting the external game controller to work on mine. The fix I figured out was to press the AyaSpace button on the device (to bring up the sidebar menu). Then go to the controller section. At the bottom, there is an option to "disable" the controller. This will turn off the device's controller, thus allowing your external controller to be the primary controller. That fixed it for me.

Okay this video started somewhere showing off a ayaneo 1s ..somthing I was looking for... and then goes on to end with an entire desktop and rtx 4070 egpu.. LOL I love it. Dint expect this to be a good video by this was way better than any phawx or eta prime videos.

if your screen allows higher refresh rate, check to make sure windows is set the max refresh rate too or some games may not give you the option to go above 60 fps :)

Very nice unboxing video!! Subscribed. One thing though, eGPU via USB 4 can only use 2 lanes so even 6600xt in this test is overkill, and your external screen is so small so I don’t think we need that much power from a 4070 to push all the pixels. I think you probably get the similar performance when you plug the ayaneo air s1 directly to your monitor.

​@@kidrobot. Not the OP, but I'm familiar with all of them (and I could use the mental exercise), so I'll give a quick-ish breakdown. *Steam Deck* (we're assuming the 400USD model. The other handhelds on this list have made the other models a bad deal) Pros: + Relatively cheap + Strong enough to play many modern games and most previous gen games + Provides a console like experience in terms of ease of use + Surprisingly comfortable to hold for long periods + Community has made it easy to setup for emulation despite the Linux OS + More programmable buttons than the other handheld PCs Cons: - Very large. Does not travel easily. - You have to upgrade the storage, and unless you only go the SD card route, it's not as easy to do as you'd think. - It gets loud when running modern 3D games. - The screen is 800p with poor color accuracy and is locked at 40hz - Native Linux OS limits game and software compatibility. - Battery life is not great (although it is better than many others on this particular list) - Struggles with many modern games and can't run a lot of AAA games in a playable state - Performance cannot be (reasonably) improved due to lack of thunderbolt ports *Asus ROG Ally [Z1 Extreme]* (the z1 is a complete waste of money): Pros: + Modern APU with innate Windows 11 - can run everything well with no issues + 120hz screen with VRR (the image always looks smooth) and good color accuracy + Very quiet... + Smaller than the Deck, while being similarly comfortable + Excellent front-firing speakers + Widely available, with easy to honor warranty Cons: - Onboard software for navigating windows and games is "finicky" - Very quiet...at the expense of poor heat management. Killed many SD cards. Hasn't been properly addressed, beyond just running the fans harder, making it loud like the deck. - Battery is noticeably worse than the deck due to it requiring more power for its superior performance, but using the same battery size as the deck. Basically needs to be chained to a dock - Requires an expensive proprietary eGPU to improve performance due to no thunderbolt support *Lenovo Legion Go* (not out yet, so we don't know all its nuances): Pros: + Modern APU with innate Windows 11 - can run everything well with no issues + One of the largest screens in the market (8.8"), despite the device being about the same size as the deck + Screen has high color accuracy, 144hz native refresh rate, 1600p screen, and a kickstand + Switch-like detachable controls, let you use it more comfortably from a desk + Hall effect joysticks mean it's effectively immune to stick drift + Control can be used like a hand mouse (great in FPS games and for navigating windows) + Larger battery than the deck and ally Cons: - Even worse for travel than the deck due to it also being 50% heavier - Device can't deliver enough power to game comfortably at 1600p, and you will notice the reduced resolution due to the screen being so large - Handheld mouse support isn't universal to all games due to some shooters disallowing simultaneous inputs from multiple devices (no idea how many games have this problem) - We know little about the onboard software for navigating windows and games, other than that it had issues for everyone testing it. *Ayaneo Air 1S* (there are many other devices from this company, but I'm assuming you're interested in the handheld in this video) Pros: + Modern APU with innate Windows 11 - can run everything well with no issues + 60hz, 1080p OLED screen is easily the best of this list in terms of color + Hall effect sticks, makes it immune to stick drift + Genuinely portable (though not realistically pocketable), much smaller and lighter than everything else here. + AyaSpace 2 software is easy to use, makes sense, and hasn't caused any issues with their devices + Has thunderbolt 4 support (as shown in this video) allowing you to improve games performance for relatively cheap (and yes, this does matter for reasons listed below). Cons: - Fewer programmable buttons makes AyaSpace software required for access to common PC functions (minor con, considering how these handheld PCs work) - You have to create a custom fan profile in AyaSpace to make the device quiet. - Smaller size means it can't run games as well as the other devices with modern APUs on this list without an eGPU (i.e. it's limited to 20w max, but should be run between 8 and 16 when undocked. Less of an issue when used as a handheld due to the screen only being 5.5" making games still look great at 720p). - The screen is 5.5" making it unsuitable for all games. An external monitor is highly recommended for some games and some windows functions. - Pain in the neck to upgrade the SSD due to the internals being so cramped. - Pricier than everything on this list Four other things to know about this market: 1. Windows handhelds have numerous 3rd party software solutions that make it easy to use any windows handheld like a console. So, the complaints about poor software are only critical if you don't want to fiddle with anything. I highly recommend looking into Playnite and handheld companion regardless. 2. The 7840u/Z1extreme APUs have slightly more raw power than the Xbox Series S. Every device with one of those chips will make it through the rest of this console generation, so don't freak out when 8000 series APUs come out in a year or two. Everything listed here (other than the steam deck) will definitely be good for 5 more years of games. 3. All handheld PCs have touch screens. Navigating operating systems isn't particularly hard without a touchpad or track pad. The deck's trackpads are primarily valuable for giving you more buttons to program (no idea if the Legion Go will also have that feature). 4. There are more handheld PC manufacturers than the ones discussed here, and they do have different features, than the ones here. At this point, if you can imagine a handheld style, someone has probably made it. In particular, you should probably look at GPD's handhelds, since they've got two of the most interesting ones on the market right now in the Win Mini (3DS style) and Win 4 (PSP style). Cheers

Great question! I'm using an eGPU, so the Thunderbolt 3 bandwidth actually bottlenecks the RTX 4070's full performance. Honestly, I didn't expect the bottleneck to be this significant. It's probably why the FPS is close to your RTX 2060. 😅🎮
