Thanks for the great videos Christian! It's really surprising to learn that popular music is composed of really familiar chord patterns. I used to believe that music was a sort of creative free for all where everyone aimed to be as original and different as possible. I often catch myself falling into the 1-4-6-5 or whatever even when I'm trying to avoid it

Well , music follows a whole lot of rules. Cause our ears also listen following "rules". They don't like just anything, so we are not free to produce anything, if we want to please them. And pop music is very much in the pleasing business. ;-)

Nice one brother Christian. A little rough ending though, not even the usual farewell. But pleasures as always. Stay strong my friend.

@@ChristianFuchsBlues That sucks, but it doesn’t take anything from your great video. I love the mixture of solid musical theory and the tenderly atmospheric style. I For some 30 years ago, I am almost certain, that I heard that this progression is called “the wamp”, “the wasp’, “the wemp”. Never understood what that name was referring to. Keep in mind, that I am from Denmark and it is not the first time we misunderstood something. So probably the “wamp” is a danish “invention”. I have almost finish your legendary Autumn Leaves arrangement. In Peter style! Not in Christian style, where the gates of heaven opens a little. Soon I all my attention is on “Time after time’, so I need to visit your shop again. See you there dear brother Christian. Peter find his own way out.

Hi Kent. Thanks so much! This will help me. I understand that beats 1 and 3 are the strong beats. But I've also heard that, in jazz, beats 2 and 4 are emphasized. Can you explain about that?

:-)) You commented on the wrong video. I am not Kent, and this video is about chords! That'a first on my channel. Best from Christian

The tendency to clap on beats 2 and 4 or on beats 1 and 3 in music is influenced by cultural preferences, music styles, and the rhythmic structure of the music itself. In many Western forms of music, especially in genres like jazz, rock, and pop, clapping on beats 2 and 4 is common. This pattern aligns with the backbeat of the music, which is a strong accentuation on the "off" beats of a 4/4 time signature. The backbeat provides a driving force and a sense of groove, which is particularly emphasized in these genres. Clapping on 2 and 4 helps reinforce this groove, making the music feel more lively and syncopated. On the other hand, clapping on beats 1 and 3 is often found in more traditional or folk music styles, as well as in classical music. This pattern aligns with the downbeat, which is the first beat of the measure and typically the strongest accent in the rhythm. Clapping on 1 and 3 can emphasize the march-like, regular rhythm of a piece, making the music feel more grounded and stable. Cultural traditions also play a significant role in this distinction. Different cultures have developed unique rhythmic structures and ways of experiencing music, which can influence whether people are more inclined to clap on 2 and 4 or on 1 and 3. For instance, Latin American and African music often have complex rhythmic patterns that might encourage clapping on different beats altogether, depending on the specific rhythm being played.
