    Many years ago I worked with a gentleman who was in the Canadian Air Force during WW2. I remember a story he told of flying a plane under the Champlain Bridge in Montreal, Canada and not being reprimanded as there were a few other planes in the air at that time, and during that period, they need skilled pilots

    The jet pilots at the Naval Air Station on Whidbey Island (Puget Sound, WA) used to fly their jets under the Whidbey Island bridge. The tourists complained (they were terrified) but I'm assuming the pilots weren't reprimanded because the practice continued until it made the news, and that's when the fun ended. Taxpayer money, etc.

    A stunt pilot flew through a hanger in the movie "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World". Also in that movie, a pilot flew through what was supposed to a paper billboard. The people who built the billboard used linen instead of paper. The pilot said he was almost killed. That was 1963. Probably some of the old barnstormers did equally dangerous stunts in the biplane days. Pilots have been taking chances since the invention of the airplane.

    It's great to see successful stunts that very experienced pilóts plan and execute through careful planning and expertise and experience and then it's made to look easy as a result but most of the time these videos are watched even then after the fact the obserber is most likely on the edge of the seat breathless until at long last the pilot or pilots are safe on the ground again. . . . I love most anything to do with aviation and it's one of my favorite joys of the wild blue yonder and the mechanical means that helped mankind to achieve such feats of accomplishments but @ the same time I respect the element in which we have the privilege to etch our marks of experience and live to tell the tale😉😎

    Akron, OH USA, They were building a version of the Corsair airplane during WWII in the shadow of the giant blimp Airdock, 1100ft long, 300 ft wide, and 20 stories tall. One of the test pilots had the bright idea to fly through it. So yeah, it happened before.

  • @blahorgaslisk7763

    @blahorgaslisk7763

    Жыл бұрын

    @@GeneralMalaize The thing here were two planes in formation flying through the hangar. Compared to that the blimp airdock was cavernous. The doors were probably five times the height of the ones on the hangar in the video. So flying through the airdock was not really all that impressive. Barnstorming has old traditions and I'm pretty sure some have tried to fly through hangars before, probably even some large barns, and I'm also certain some of these daredevils died trying. Remember the old saying; There's old pilots and there's bold pilots, but there's no old bold pilots. People who keep hunting for the next big adrenalin fix tend to die early. That's just how this works. Recently we lost Ken Block to an accident with a snowmobile. He was a very skilled racing driver and an adrenalin junkie. And his tendency to take everything just that bit further to the edge of what's physically possible eventually caught up with him. It was a tragedy mostly to his family but also to all of us who watched him do what we can't and wouldn't dare try to do. But he was certainly a bold pilot, though he primarily flew his cars around tracks that had us mere mortals feel some of that adrenalin rush just watching it on our screens. Also if you talk to retired fighter pilots almost all of them have stories either of their own stunts, or of the hotshot pilot who buzzed the tower, dove under bridges and played havoc in all kind of weird ways. So yes, most everything has been done in some way, but now we get it documented in highspeed high definition video, and the adrenalin junkies are taking everything just that bit further. As for flying through buildings or tunnels one of the problems is the change in aerodynamics as the plane enters the enclosed space. doing so with two planes in tandem only makes the air movements more uncertain and dangerous.

    @@kjeksklaus7944 I don't agree with EL ROBO that they are encouraging anything bad, general aviation is not that accessible for random people to just run out and do stupid stunts, most people who put in the time and money to be able to fly, try to be responsible about it. However your reply to him is equally dumb, as if being a true pilot is only stunt flying. That isn't what being a pilot is about, it's like saying that someone isn't a real driver when they've got 3 million miles behind the wheel of a taxi with zero at fault accidents, because they haven't set a fastest lap record at the nurburgring. Piloting is about being a professional, meticulous attention to detail, planning, and staying calm under pressure to consistently get yourself and any passengers with you, safely back to the ground, most of the time at the intended destination. Yes some pilots do stunts or fly fighter jets in extreme situations but they are just more specialized and skilled pilots, they still are mostly the same at their foundation, they just have extra training and practice at a specific additional skill.

    Just think - all companies must spend money on advertising. Red Bull puts its advertising dollars into these outrageous stunts and sponsorships, like its successful Formula 1 team or the 2012 world-record skydiving jump from 24 miles up (Red Bull Stratos by Felix Baumgartner). It sure is better advertising than a chintzy TV or magazine ad... and much more fun and hugely more effective.
