When I was about 13 in the 1970s my Nanna had badgered me to help an old fella out called John who lived in a small council bungalow opposite her. He was unable to get to the shops anymore and needed somebody to go for him - half the time it was the bookies LOL. Nice bloke, he'd give me 10p for going for him (you could get a bag of sweets for that then) and I went most days - he loved his woodbine cigarettes, brown ale, bacon, eggs, bread butter and dairymilk chocolate - literally never asked me to buy him anything else. Anyway, few times he got to telling me about his time in the war, how he was a gunner in the Dessert Rats, went right through Africa and even into Germany (think he said Italy too), how once a shell exploded right next to him but the blast went away from him and killed all his mates but left him untouched - wish I could recount all his tales because they were truly incredible, he had a lot of fantastic photos of it all. Anyway, one day when we knew each other a bit better, he goes into his wardrobe and pulls out aa German Luger pistol and a great big fancy knife with a swastika on it - said he'd taken these off a German officer who surrendered to him. He'd married a German woman after the war who he ran a business with, she'd died early. Honestly cant remember when he died or what happened to all that - council probably took it away. I was told it wasnt uncommon to find a rifle or grenade when clearing out some old chaps house who had died in the 60s and 70s. WW2 felt so much closer in the 70s - its rapidly just becoming history now.

Nice video. Good that the families of the soldiers who died and are known, are or will be informed. Its his compilation of 2020 and the dates of the excavations and so are published. So he or she does not claim that the founds where made in 2020. Keep on searching : ). Regards from the Battle of the Bulge area, Belgium.

I’m sorry but if I’m cleaning out my families home after they passed and found rare guns that were obviously important to them if they kept it all those years,I’m not gonna take it down to the police station and give it to them. Regardless of them giving a finders fee I can guarantee it wasn’t anywhere close to the actual value of that gun. Plus the chances are the person that took the gun probably kept it for themselves or sold it to a collector.
