She did not break protocol with her outfits, she did just fine. She grew up with them around a fair amount of the time. She was more colorful and stylish, but still well within bounds. The strapless black, a little low in some shots. She never did that again.

The yellow overalls were appropriate for a sporting event. I don't know why so many people act like the queen dictates that all royal women have to dress exactly like she does, because it's demonstrably untrue. For example, the media acts like Meghan Markle was the first royal since Diana to wear pants to royal appearances, but Kate has been wearing pants all along, long before MM was around. All you have to do is go to Pinterest. Kate and William have made many joint appearances when Kate was wearing trousers and high heels, much like Letizia, the queen of Spain.

@@nicolenewsome4863 maybe by choosing her fate she meant she knew her outfits & giggling at times she was supposed to be serious or like from the first time a kid gave her flowers, or when she squatted & talked to her or gave her a hug. I was 4 when they were married & remember my mom dragging my sister & I out of bed in the middle of the night to watch the wedding. I have always had a fascination & admiration for her since, & I even got a book for Christmas that year called "Princess Diana & her Royal wedding". It was like a coloring book but was a paper doll book. It had several of what are now her "iconic" outfits. However, I didn't even know how Prince Charles was but didn't ever like him. I thought she was the princess before the wedding & couldn't understand why she was marrying the ugly man with the big ears that looked & acted like he sucked a lemon or stepped in dog poop!! I didn't think he deserved her & found no reason he should be in my little book. The only picture of Charles in the book was in color on the back cover in his wedding suit & didn't want that ugly man near the beautiful princess. It said "Princess Diana" not HIM, & was my book....so I cut him off the cover (much to my mom's fit)...& even after how all that worked found it dumb & told my mom it was ok because she needed a break from him when I played. Bet that book would be worth $$ now though. I remember once Diana& Charles were off somewhere & was probably one of the first times but definitely the longest she'd been away from the boys (& those boys were ALL to her), "protocol was they were supposed to do their little walk, maybe wave for the reports & photographers or shake hands with other snobs, whatever. BUT Diana caught sight of those little boys, her heart couldn't contain the love we could all see explode out of her & them for her. She forgot "her place & rules"! She ran for them & they got away from their nanny & when the were only a few feet apart, she dropped onto her knees & swooped them both into a monster bear hug!!...i think she was young, flattered, was deceived (or lied to) about many things, was naive about life in general & in over her innocent head with that ruthless bunch. Although she cried many tears in private, no one watching considered she wasn't anything living anything but a fairy tale. After trying SO many ways to please people impossible to even of any tiny a smidgen of kindness towards her, with the elegance, class, dignity & grace...she gave up on their approval, & evolved into "The People's Princess" we all loved & did lots of things she did, she knew damn well would set the Queen's (& plenty of others) knickers on fire but choose to follow her heart anyways. Even getting divorced, talking to reporters, being honest about her struggles (all no, no's)& life after she continued doing amazing charity work & bravely holding her head high as though they couldn't take her true crown away!!! I think part of why she died was she refused to be bullied into running away & hiding completely like they all wished she would. She just wanted some peace, a quieter, more private, happy life, to be in love & move on to be loved...& was living her choices even though it killed her. Even in death, she never stopped striving toward her dreams, she inspired & gave courage to many little girls watching her example...i know she certainly did for this little American girl!!! I was 21 & pregnant when she died & cried like she had been my best friend!!! May her beautiful soul rest in peace....& the rest of that rotten bunch spend their afterlifes in one of their own damp dungeons that they deserve for SO many reasons!!!

Considering She died so tragically young I am glad she at least got to sometimes be herself and wear as (she chose)

@@Leozz2good4u Well I think it’s her own bowl heart I think it’s served her well she was just born with a truly compassionate heart but then again being a princess and you continually reminded perhaps more of her faults the person I didn’t even really exist except through the wall furnace trying to stand up for herself I think it became confusing but I think given time and was a little more age she would become even more magnificent

It's not just the adjustment to a husband, but running a household, the in-laws, and then babies. All dumped in your lap instantly. And nobody gives you credit, because you're just a kid. Once as I was getting in my car to go to work, a census taker came by and asked if my mother was home. 🙄

I remember vividly one formal postcard with a very young Prince Philip and she with a white strapless gown, her crown and diamond jewels seated. The Queen wouldn't give two hoots regardless of what this video says...The Issue with Diana Spencer's black dress was ...the following day her being photographed getting out of the car... Diana's nipple was on show. Most editors shopped it out...but it was clear something wasn't right. Also. And this is much more serious whilst getting ready for the event...Diane threw a tantrum and screamed she would not be going to the event. So, The Palace gave their apologies and announced Diana would not be attending. only for Diana to arrive...After HM The Queen. Now that's just not done...for all the right reasons...The Queen is top of the Bill after she arrives the event can start...but then...Diana came in after her...That was what upset The Queen.

Diana was deeply flawed both Charles and Diana got married for the wrong reasons. Charles wanted to make the best of it Diana... didn't. Charles rekindled a relationship with his old G/F...who was going through a divorce from one hell of a marriage of her own. Its clear Camilla was his one true love... Plus...we all know the rumours that Prince Harry was the issue from another of Diana's Lovers James Hewitt...doesn't matter whether its true or not...Harry is damaged that's clear . He has grown up all his life thinking... am I or am I not. Who does that to a child ?? I personally dont care...However; he does look remarkably like James Hewitt. IF he is the father of Harry then it speaks Volumes of the good in Prince Charles to never make any difference...Charles Adores both his Son's...and remember...Charles was The Parent...Not Diana ! Diana never did anything that Charles didn't approve first... All the stuff I read about Diana taking them here and there... making them more "normal" Trust me without Charles's knowledge and approval...Non of those "trips" would never have happened.

Don’t all young people want to find their own style and develop their own fashion sense? She could have any designer she wanted and some of the outfits didn’t suit her young slender figure, but she kept trying. She finally found an iconic look. What a shame she was so overly judged in her early years. I feel for her 😞 .

They mean that those styles are usually not appropriate for royals. They don’t mean that the outfits were bad.

Diana wore a one bare shoulder *evening gown* on a trip to far away Brazil, while Markle wore an off shoulder dress at the Trooping of the Colour, a *day event* in the Queen's presence and supposed to be honouring the Queen. Context is everything. Diana's "rebellions" were a mere clin d'oeil, while Markle's are spats in the face.

I’d have to take issue with you about some statements in this video. Diana was only known as Spencer before she married. Afterwards it was always Princess Di, or Diana. Secondly I don’t ever recall the Queen interfering in Diana’s wardrobe, although Diana tried out new fashions and wore some frankly frumpy stuff in the early 80’s before she found her own style and confidence. She then became a huge fashion icon. Incidentally Meghan Markle is no longer a ‘Royal’ - her and Prince Harry have opted out, so there’s no doubt she can wear whatever she likes these days. Comparing her to Diana in any way does Diana a disservice. Diana had class and breeding. Something that Markle will never have. Please don’t compare the two. A better comparison can be made with the classy Duchess of Cambridge who will one day be Queen and an equally stunning fashion icon!

Princess Diana knew who she was! And she was and still is loved!

I loved her engagement dress, it brought out her happiness

Address her, either as "LADY DIANA SPENCER" or "DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES". Addressing her as "Princess Diana spencer", is a big No.

She is beautiful. Her smile.

I lived in London once many years ago ( Australian ) and knew someone who came home raving about seeing Diana walking down Chelsea road , and how beautiful she was, and how she glowed with a luminous light . What has happened with her two boys now would break her heart.

@@diamonddgs She lost the assignation HRH that the Queen revoked following Charles and Diana’s divorce in 1996 and was titled Diana, Princess of Wales.

She was quite frumpy during the first few years of her marriage but I feel that Catherine Walker helped her become stylish. When the Queen and Princess Margaret were young they did wear strapless ball gowns.

There are numerous photos of Queen Elizabeth in gowns that showed her shoulders, all worn on formal occasions. Princess Beatrice was married in one such gown owned by the Queen, though she had it reworked with chiffon sleeves added for her wedding. I highly doubt there was ever a "rule" that royal ladies could not show shoulders or backs. Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge has a few one shoulder gowns, spaghetti strap gowns and gowns that show her back. The research for this video is appalling.

and kinda the late 90s too...at least for me. Maybe I was out of style? 😆 I loved my beige baggy GAP overalls that I’d wear with a baby tee and flip flops. 🩴 Ahhh...memories lol

@@littlefurballs Diana was ahead of her time. Certainly didn't deserve that horrible family. Both Spencer girls were groomed from birth to be in the Royal family. Diana was I believe to be betroved to Andrew. Sarah Spencer to Charlies, the ages fit better. Sarah stated that " I wouldn't marry Charles if he was the dustman or King of England" She knew all about Camilla. How could she have let her younger sister marry him? The RF suckered her in, she loved Charles and Monarchy, they lied to her and manipulated just like narcissists do. Harry has a bomb shell. Oprah's interview will be the most watched television special event in history.

The Queen has worn pants. Nothing inappropriate about what she wore. Her first outfit in black, maybe. She was the epitome of how to dress. This is a bunch of nothing, and I’m sorry I clicked on it.

Inappropriate is certainly subjective...at the time Diana was hailed by tabloids for her stylish looks while it was Princess Fergie who more ridiculed and whose outfits were deemed more "inappropriate" at the time in comparison to Diana.
