Technically a power "chord" isn't even a chord because it only consists of 2 notes, the root note and the perfect 5th.
Do you get a new PRS every 6 seconds?

But.... those open chords were already triads, they were only three note chords, with some repeating notes of course, but still only three notes.
@MorbidGuardian
7 жыл бұрын
When he says triads, I think he means playing only the essential three notes without having any repeating ones. By playing only the three essential notes, this allows you to move up and down the fretboard more freely, creating more dynamic sounds.

I don't really think he's wrong. According to what I know--and maybe I'm wrong--a triad refers specifically to the three essential notes of a chord, not any repeated notes. An open G-chord, for instance, is not a major triad itself, but it contains a few triads within it. It'd be helpful to message Music Is Win directly, since he's a Berkley trained musician and I'm only an amateur. He could probably clarify his statements better than me, since he has a larger body of knowledge.
@oddjrgen7457

Dave B You're right. That is what Music is Win means. He even demonstrate it in his example. He also mentions other triads, like minor, augmented and diminished. He even brings up inversions with said triads. And I'm pretty sure that when he speaks of triads he litterally mean just the three notes of a chord.
I'm glad that SOMEBODY is pumping out incredible content day in and day out. Thank you, Tyler! It's much appreciated

Hey man, thank you for posting these free video lessons on youtube. It has really helped me understand the guitar better. Thank you and keep doing what you're doing :)
I've been playing guitar for a few years now and am "pretty good" for the most part, but because I taught myself (after already having learned a couple of different instruments) I feel like I missed a LOT of the fundamentally important techniques and tricks that most guitarists pick up in a more logical way. With that said, I am so grateful you make these videos. They are so calming to watch and I have learned a lot even in the few weeks I have been subscribed. Practically applying theory can be tricky, but you make it really enjoyable. I'll definitely be buying your Super System course in the near future, and hopefully more thereafter!
Loved the jsatch photo on your wall! Great lesson as always!
That was beautiful. Thanks for using the I-V-IV progression, it's my all-time favorite. Rock On
I'm liking the sweet clean tone. Some useful insights, as well. Thanks.
Really enjoy your videos. They are so helpful. Thanks bro!
Just watched a documentary on Bob Weir(Grateful Dead), and he was talking about his style of playing. He was just the "rhythm guitarist"(next to Jerry), but utilized the triads and such all up and down the neck. He said that this was so things always sounded fresh, and never dull. Love the channel!👍🏻 🤘🏻👹🤘🏻
This guy has a good sense of humor... Really good player as well. BRAVO!
Love the guitar work at the end of the video :)
Great video! I need to watch more of them! Thanks!

It sure is, but I would reckon just that one guitar along with the amp and cab are over 5000 bucks worth of gear...so it's really not a surprise, lol.
A triad is simply a chord consisting of three notes. I think you might term what you are doing as varied chord "voicings" or even "inversions". You do have some interesting sounds there.
Great video, amazing guitar and amplifier!
"I just want to sound.......different." Have you ever said that? Me: "I just want to sound like I've been playing guitar for more than a single day."
nice video I really like the rifts ya played at the end
That amp sounds lush, first video of yours I've seen, I'm impressed and have subscribed look forward to learning from you.
Good lesson. The chords are good jumping off and landing points for solos.
Thanks for the help! Gonna for sure use this
Love that guitar
It's awesome to see people who love PRS, I'm a huge fan myself. Owned that S2 in whale blue that you have, sold it to get a CE. Simply one of the best guitars to play. The amp sounds amazing too, going to save and get myself a Archon combo one day.
if guitar tone was a lullaby it would be your clean tone
lovely tone
Wauw! I literally just discovered your channel right now. And what you just played sounds amazing! I'm still running on the basic chords as you played at first, and I would really like to get something new into my fingers. Can you point me in the direction of a good video for where I am right now?
Smart, informative,clear. Nice work.
I have been trying for the past two weeks to work on my triads. I found after Julien Baker playing 'something' that she was using a triad kind of formation along with a simple picking pattern to make actually nice songs. Thank you for adding to the information that I have been thinking as of late!
After watching this video, I asked my guitar teacher if he will teach me triads, and he said they're for pussies. :(

Yea the term he's really looking for is chord "voicings." Basically, for each chord the goal is to find its various voicings along the neck. To keep it simple, he's suggesting using just 3 notes (the triad that supports the chord, eliminating things like a flat 7th or add9) and finding all the different voicings for those. Once you're able to do this, your chord progressions will start to sound different than the open chords on the neck (Low Pitched G Chord, High Pitched D Chord, C Chord somewhere in the middle). Because you can start your G chord at a higher pitch so the movement from your G chord to your D chord can actually be a move DOWN in pitch

I really liked the piece you played
Great video!
great video Sir thanks, all the best.
Open chords are just as versatile a demo of their capabilities for contrast might give a less one sided lesson. Very good triad capabilities demo!
your tone bro, your tone, sounds fucking beautiful
This is so helpful, thank you.
Sickest freakin clean tone
I like those because the finger positions are more closely a lead position also helping the player add notes in between the chords . Rock allows even 2 finger chord roots to change keys or chords ! Any position that has a high over top finger position like a standard Gmajor limits your ability to flow so I like a lower position for a quick hammering note and change ! Rarely do I play a standard D major because of position problems , unless a slow tempo is played like a turn-around chord !
Nice lesson! I'll show this to my teacher next time and we will work on it!
Very good. Thanks !
triads are so cool!
Cool new guitar dude, is that also a new amp from PRS? Hope they sent it to your for free you're videos are great. All the Best,
Got a great tone
totally going to use that on band practice today
You explain very nicely and lots of information to learn from all your lessons.. Feels sad sometimes for those negative comments unnecessarily arguing about triads etc.. If you know so well then why watch the video lesson and argue... Its better to learn whatever new from anyone rather than arguing about what is correct or wrong.. Great lesson.
this content is so strong!!👌🏽
That intro fingerstyle though
The PRS you're playing is what my son wanted but, he settled for a PRS SE Tremonti.
I just love that awesome guitar that you are using right now! just want to ask what's the exact model of your awesome guitar? Thanks, I plan to learn how to play Jessie's Girl by Rick Springfield. And I plan to buy me one as well but I want it just like yours because it looks like it's the same with Rick Springfield's guitar with humbucker? I think that's what someone told me before. Thanks.
Thanks for such a great lesson. I liked and subbed. Couldn't help it.. Smiles
Thank you Nice humanoid, you own a good soul !
nice lesson! i like this amp!
yay now I know how to play the chords I play on the piano on the guitar!
Triads, using basically inversions of the chords. Cool. Great sounding guitar, nicely done.
D, C and G *are* triads. What he's doing is playing *inversions*.
Like this guy.
That's what I'm looking for !
earned a sub. + like! Thanks for sharing!
Great lesson!!! Thanks man! =)
That's some really nice gear you have there. I also notice all the instruments on the wall. What is it you do for a living? Are you a music teacher by profession?
You just taught me how to fall asleep. Thanks. :)
All 3 note chords including the open ones are triads. When you move up and down the neck and change the lowest root your are inverting the chords.
Greetings ! Moroccan fan here I just wanna say first that I love your videos. You rock dude \m/ and I really appriciate it if you give me some tips I have a budget of ~1500 euros and I want to buy gear. I am a bass player but you made me wanna pick up guitar ! Cheers mate.
thanks man
Basically the standard style for many extreme metal bands. A solid rhythm track with open amd power chords mixed with a triad based lead track.
subbed cuz of channel name :D also great tutorial dude, keep on being great ^^
hey jo i love your Videos :D 👍👍 great guy ,thank you . keep doing
Just discovered ur channel...Incredible playing! But you don't need compliments..I NEED TO PROGRESS in my playing techniques. Stuck at the same advanced level forever. Hopefully your insight will help me out of my rut. I have a newer PRS CE24 in Trampas green with a Hughes & Kettner Grandmeister 36 amp & cabinet setup. Dimebag Wah, Pro2 and distortion booster box
how do you pluck? it sounds so cool man...can u make a tutorial in doing it? im a really newbie in playing guitar so yeah
Great video, was expecting some stupid tuition guitar teacher trying to flog his online video lesson but was pleasantly surprised, made me think about chords. Thanks!

I am seriously at a loss for words with that strangely perfect note at 2:38 ish... Didn't see a bend, did the string wrap off the fretboard? Guessing it was a happy accident;)

I noticed that, too. Sounded like you bend up to a note using the whammy bar, but you didn't touch the bar. Almost made me wonder if you were fingering over something you pre-recorded and forgot to do the effect.
@torrquemado1980

If you watch closely and repeat, you'll be able to see that -almost imperceivable slide from the index and middle fingers. The first string he picks is the B string, where his middle finger is still about to land. Happy accident or on purpose, I'm with you on the beauty of its ringing.

Tony Tran He could have post processed with a little autotune for a bum note. But I can usually spot that a mile away. Pitch shift would have affected other notes in the chord, not just one.
Thanks, I’ll give it a tri
hey tyler can you do a lesson on harmonies like the ones played by the eagles and iron maiden
by 'Triad' you mean "inversion". Every chord built with three letters a third apart in western harmony is a triad. Depending on how those 3 letters are arranged and played on the guitar neck or piano, will give you the various inversions of any triad.
I like this video and I don't want to look like a know-it-all (or stupid) but if anyone feels a bit frustrated with terminology try 'Music Theory for Dummies' which explains that major chords are the 1st, 3rd and 5th notes of the major scale. If you try it on a keyboard starting from C so you don't need any black keys everything becomes clear. To invert you simply hold the root 1st and the third then go down an octave and press the equivalent 5th. Similarly hold the 3rd and 5th and go up for the next highest equivalent 1st. It's a standard method with jazz piano where you can beef the whole thing out with two hands on a keyboard. On a guitar it boils down to the three major chord shapes. You'll probably find this in other Dummies books as well. I hope this helps.
Bro you just get me
Great.
I have a Gibson explorer 2016. And it was a lot and I just got it. But that guitar looks very expensive
Thanks.
1,3,13 the 5 an octave higher triad favourite
Hey! I've been playing guitar for a good 4 years, every single day ranging from 10min-8hours. Do you think the Guitar Super System would help an intermediate player like myself or is it for beginners? Do you have more advanced courses where you teach music theory?
What model is that PRS you were playing there? It's one sexy guitar!
The first 3 or 4 R.E.M albums are 90% open chords and a few little other triads and those are some of the best Pop albums of the 80's. Peter Buck doesn't really have "chops" but he has a great ear.
helpfull i enjoyed....
