Came here to say this exact thing. Dead men literally tell no tales, so he couldn’t have such a reputation with no survivors. They’re also not profitable if they’re dead. Huh? There’s nothing mysterious about his death. Captain Maynard and his crew lured Blackbeard and his men into a sword fight where Blackbeard was overwhelmed and eventually killed. It’s well documented

Fun fact Blackbeard had actually been pardoned and even disbanded most of his crew but because the pardon didn't cover all his crimes he was still technically wanted so the British tracked him down anyway
